I was born in Austria in 1940. In the last two years of WW2, we were bombed many times by American B29 formations. I have experienced being in bomb shelters during these attacks. BUT , I cannot imagine the trauma, the indiscriminate bombings and destruction of some 75% of all buildings throughout GAZA. My heart aches whenever I see the killing of innocents, the destruction of homes of hospitals and the utter deprivation ! Please stop this wanton killing and dehumanising an entire population.

Now, granted, Biden has made numerous red lines that he didn't do anything about - but they could be holding to that one on purpose because they want to keep everyone there and getting killed. That being said, I'm not aware of any specific country that has stepped forward and offered to take thousands of refugees from Palestine. I think the idea is that no one should have to. Gaza is bordered on 3 sides by Israel but its southern border bumps up against Egypt. Its not just Gaza but also the West Bank and the idea of Palestinians being a thing at all that's at stake here. I hate to say it but reality is that under Trump the West bank will be annexed and lost, the genocide in Gaza will be completed and the only thing that could stop this - since Israel and the USA clearly won't and have no incentive to stop - is Hamas fully surrendering which, sadly, is now their only alternative to be being literally wiped out completely. Trump is not the most anti-Palestinian president. Biden is. Trump doesn't really give a fuck one way or another. His political side generally supports the Zionist Entity, so he does too. He does what he thinks is popular. He recognized the Golan Heights during his first term - but remember that he still needed to get re-elected and still needed campaign money, so he was happy to promise the West Bank, too. Will he? Who knows. Maybe. But it isn't an ideological stance that he actually cares about. He does it because it makes his donors and voters like him. But this genocide is exceptionally unpopular. He will do what he thinks benefits him. There's a chance - a slim chance - that Trump will see the unpopularity, and do the "right thing" by ending or reducing our complicity in genocide purely for his own optics. Unlikely, but possible. Biden, as he has demonstrated every single day since the genocide began, will not do anything to reduce US complicity. Biden is *ideologically* dedicated to the genocide. He specifically wants and supports the genocide. That's why, against all reason, he maintains it. Hamas surrendering will not end the genocide. The genocide isn't about Hamas. Netanyahu loves Hamas. He always has. He's said it outright, and has helped to keep them funded. He loves Hamas because it provides justification to murder Palestinians. He loves Hamas because he can label them as terrorists, and it's harder for Gaza and the West Bank to form a united front. He loves Hamas because they are "terrorists" in the eyes of the West, so Gaza doesn't get any external political support. The goal isn't to get rid of Hamas. The goal is to murder every last Palestinian until only Hamas are left. Then you have all the justification you need to kill the last of them.

As a childhood trauma survivor, I can tell you traumatized kids can and do smile when they can find joy. it's the human biological way to try its best to protect itself. This doesn't negate or erase the deep, deep life-long psychological and physiological damage they've incurred. These kids have seen the worst of humanity, so the bar is very low for the smallest ounce of light they can find, and they will grasp onto it.

You and I most likely (just speculating I don’t know you) will never come close to experiencing something like this. I think that’s a hard pill to swallow for most people. What these people have experienced the last 500 days we will never understand, never empathize with, never fully grasp. That’s how fucked this is. Beyond repair. A TRUE nightmare and I don’t think that’s a good enough word for it.

Relocate the ordinary people who have lost their homes and neighborhoods to the Palestinian State in Jordan. There the king will take good care of them especially with some additional foreign aid. Or, they can join Palestinian refugees in Syria and of course there is no longer a functioning state who will tell them they cannot resettle there. They just have to go out of where they are if there's going to be a humanitarian peace in the region.

My theory on why the children are still “smiling even when living in tents and not eating protein for a month” most likely is because they have people in it with them. When people have community their resilience is truly remarkable. The same goes for when people don’t have community. So in summary community makes all the very difference. Something to think about.

Saagar is at least representative of a broader millennial conservative viewpoint.
