I think a lesson learned here is if you're losing oil (whether due to blowby or whatever), check your oil often and refill as necessary. Carrying a quart with you everywhere and checking every time you fill up the gas is more than enough.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I regret not seeing your video earlier lol. I owned my frs about 2 years and I learned a lot driving skills throughout tracking it. At first I was just running the track with stock power, and gradually, I started to upgrade the suspension.. tires.. ect. Everything went smoothly until I decided to add more horsepower to that frs. The SC kit gave me a sweet time but also ruined my trans and motor. After about 7000 track miles my engine blew like yours. I think a lot. Thinking that I have spent so much time and money on the car, I decided to build new motor and swap it. Now my car is still in the shop and I'm still struggling with how to solve the transmission problem... Ah if I could see your video earlier, I would probably buy a C6 or other more reliable car for track car ;D

@OrenHolzman3 жыл бұрын
If you have enough money to afford a huracan then there’s a ton of options for you to consider. On the upper end there’s mclarens, lower down you can do the new C8 corvette or a C7 Z06/ZR1. If you’re trying to build a JDM car then consider the new Supra, the S2000 or a K24/LS swapped FRS/BRZ/86.

@@OrenHolzman possibly complete build. To be honest we have tracks here in Toronto Canada that are not that long but you can still use the power on the straights. I just don't want to get a car dump 10k in and then be like I need more power. I think the frs supercharged is sufficient because apparently the handling is amazing. Cars right now are expensive as hell. A guy I know blew his cayman s and a replacement motor is like 25k that's just ridiculous to me so I'm just asking because you are actually doing it. This is not a daily driver for me its something I can learn limits in case I put it in a wall🤣appreciate your time

@cduncan56903 жыл бұрын
Great information and thanks for sharing your experience. However, this engine and transmission was only designed to withstand naturally aspirated loads. People who want to track turbo setups should get the appropriate rods, pistons, rings, cams, etc. Sorry to see you lose your engine but it is nice to know what the engines factory limits are.
@OrenHolzman3 жыл бұрын
Even in a stock form I had transmission issues and in stock form, when driven hard, the oil gets to concerning temperatures. I agree the car wasn’t build for boost but there’s still some design flaws to keep in mind.
@cduncan56903 жыл бұрын
@@OrenHolzman I hear you. If Toyota had put this engine in its rightful place behind the driver and mate it to the STI 6 speed a lot of these little problems would have been alleviated. However, they would not have sold as many of those cars because people still get excited about having two useless seats behind them instead of an engine.

Just curious since you are sponsored by Verus, why did you not use the Verus Rear Cam Cover Block in conjunction with your Verus AoS? That setup should have prevented you having to do an atmospheric setup that got oil all over the underside of your car AND prevented the oil starvation issue. Am I missing something about the situation. I was thinking about using just the setup that I mentioned when I go FI but I am wondering if there is an issue there.
@matthewwain9958 Жыл бұрын
What's the weight difference between the stock trans and the cd09?
@487634054 жыл бұрын
Why not IAG AOS? They have the system that will dump the blow by oil back into the oil pan through the oil filler cap.
@OrenHolzman4 жыл бұрын
As far as I am aware, IAG does not make an AOS for the FRS. I highly considered trying to mount the IAG AOS and testing it out but then my motor blew. However, the blow-by was not a result of the catch can/AOS, it was caused by the motor itself.
@1atinlove4 жыл бұрын
How is the new trans holding up? Would you have gone any other routes(i.e. gear sets)?Do you think the Verus AOS is no good?
@OrenHolzman4 жыл бұрын
The new trans is holding up well. You could get strengthened gears / synchros and if you have the know-how, install them yourself for a cheaper solution. Because transmissions are daunting to me, I am happy with my decision to go CD09. As far as the Verus AOS, I think it is a good option but my engine and it’s blow by issue was the problem. The Verus AOS is great for a motor without the blow by issues.

@@OrenHolzman thanks bro, im was looking at PAR gears and the CD09 trans. I was just wondering how much more reliable. Or if i should go with the gears, and Verus synchros. Still have some time to get it all figured out. I am going to get the AOS from VERUS. Thanks bro

So.... I'm in mechanic school and I am learning a lot from your videos and want(ed) to get an FRZ and tune it.....I am starting to think that this car isn't meant for serious power upgrades after hearing everything you have had to replace on your car with headers, tune, and a turbo. It seems like you are going to have to rebuild your entire engine after this process is over. Maybe you should cut your losses and buy a used cayman or boxter...Idk, let me know what you think.
@OrenHolzman4 жыл бұрын
Adding power to this car is difficult. The engine and trans both aren’t capable of handling power reliably. If you want a car that’s out of the box quick and moderately reliable, consider the C7 corvette or maybe a cayman. But if you’re willing to dedicate the time and money, building this car has taught me so much and starting with a slow car has helped hone my driving skills. Look at the Evasive Motorsports Pikes Peak FRS. That thing is heavily modified but it shows the FRS chassis has great potential if you’re prepared to do what it takes... maybe I should make a video about this, lol.

Just started having blowby issues. GTX2867r tuned on e85 making 390 at 14 psi. Street car but gets the dick beat off it. Sick of the burning oil smell and smoke at this point. Know of anyone using the accu tank with success? I’m not sure I’d want to be returning the blowby back into the motor with all the ethanol. Seems like a sure fire way to wash it out. Even with regular interval oil changes.
@OrenHolzman3 жыл бұрын
If you’re referring to an accusump, that’s a bandaid and not a solution. You’ll still have the same blow by, the accusump would just replace it with pressurized oil so you have less of a chance of oil starvation.
