Im an istp and one of my greatest interests is psychology. The way people think and why they make certain actions has always interested me. I'm working on restoring an old BMX bike and I play football and basketball for fun. I also like to read books.

Female ISTP here, very accurate description. Our tertiary and inferior functions are basically unfamiliar to us and very uncomfortable until we peak maturity, then it all comes together as we begin to become more comfortable with our intuition and feelings. Putting my thoughts into words has been a challenge in the past, but it has become easier. A sense of balance is formed with every individual as we become more comfortable with cycling through our function stack. I spent much of my younger years thinking, researching, troubleshooting, taking things apart and putting them back together, problem solving, and putting that knowledge into action. So street smarts, yes indeed, as my first career involved much of that.😁👍

ISTPs are analytical, but the things they are analytical about is usually non meta, things that can seen touched felt etc. When it comes to things of a more abstract nature ISTPs have a very bad time analyzing such things, thus making them less analytical than NTs.

Cool breakdown, Actually George Lucas is an ISTP so you'll see that nearly half of his characters and the StarWars universe itself sheds a lot of light into how ISTPs like myself view things. Funny how it's basically ENFJ=The protagonist and ISTP=(can be antagonist) I'm an ISTP and I sure do have dark thoughts sometimes and I hate stereotypical main characters. Maybe the reason why The Purge and other horror movies are my taste when it comes to movies. Edit: After a year fuck this sounds so edgy but it's true, fuckin true. Stereotypical protagonists irritate me, I prefer realism when it comes to movies, with real life application, story that makes sense that will expand my perspective and leave me some new knowledge.

Yeah. I particularly hate rules/ traditions which are counterproductive or wasteful. If it's stupid I'll just skip it so I get things done. Doc Brown (Back to the Future) with the plutonium is a great example. He doesn't plan to hurt anyone so the rules are just in the way. Also, going to all the trouble to build the huge ice maker just for his tea - so ISTP 😂

Based on your description, I would fit more in the ISTP type, I used to take things apart because I was curious how they worked, light bulbs, audio set, whatever I could take apart, even animals (my dorm had a microscope that I often used to see the specimens of the small animals I took apart). However, according to two practitioners, I am an INTP, and I do relate more to NeSi than SeNi. I didn't take the results they gave at face value, I did research on cognitive functions for years to see if they're correct. I am not a hands on person, and I am more into theories than practical knowledge, but it's more about biology and physics (and these things would be more ISTP-ish than INTP-ish according to this video, because I did experiment with real animals), religions (I did comparative studies on religions), now psychology. I am also an avid debater and I debate about anything basically. According to Linda Berens, Ne is similar to Se in that both are "here and now" functions, except Ne is abstract, it takes in concrete information and turns it into abstraction, and both are also about "possibilities", the Ne about what could be possible, the Se is about what is possible, so Se is not imaginative like Ne. As young as 12-13 years old I already enjoyed debating with adults, about religions and other topics. My uncle being the person I often discussed and debated with. I write essays about all the things I study, religions, psychology, physics, biology. I'm into math too btw. And I am more into the future and the past than thè current events. It's not possible to have Ne and Se but I think I also learn like Se folks, jump right in into it and experiment and figure things out as I do it, this would be more learning kinesthetically (wait a minute, is this the same as being hands on? Because I have a different interpretation for "hands on", I'm not the type of person that is interested to do things with my hands, I'd rather have someone do it for me, but I'd lay out the ideas/methods/instructions, whatever). Vèry very rarely do I depend on manuals or tutorials. Ok, now I am confused again.

You might be a Harmonizing subtype from Viktor Gulenko's DCNH subtypes. Essentially, there are 4 subtypes: dominant, creative, normalizing and harmonizing. Each subtype focuses more on 2 functions than others of the same type. Harmonizing subtypes fixate on and emphasizes their blind spot and demon functions-in the case of the INTP it would be Se and Fi. Normalizing subtypes of an introverted judging dominant type tend to have a more rigid Ti or Fi depending on which function occupies the 8th slot. An INTP won't magically become a xSFP, however, they might appear as such.

Hm. I enjoyed this video, but if I wasn't already very familiar with typology, I would have been immediately lost in this description. You go right into details of behavior/processes, comparisons to other types, and examples/archetypes without much of an overview of the function stack to set a framework for the discussion. Perhaps no one else cares, but I wonder if someone new to typology and/or your channel would be able to keep up with this one.
