Only 12? That’s like a 3-4 day marathon video, you’d need at least 48 hours to talk about the HH if you get into all the sub plots and minor figures that didn’t do too much in the grand scheme but also did things like summon the space bugs or find the 2nd generation space marine formula that the alpha legion stole . . . You’d need at least 80-100 hours There are at least 64 books in the heresy as well as books tangentially related to the heresy in various ways, not to mention topics like old night and the unification war, which do both have effects on the Horus Humbug.

Writers for that series are honestly hit and miss. That particular plotline veered too hard into the grim dork territory. The self defeating nature and decay of much of calcified Imperium's bureaucracy can be shown without going there.

1:45:30 I remember that iron warriors short that came out recently with a single terminator claiming the PLANET as his. To be fair it had already been softened up by the Drukhari but once they were booted off it didn't seem like much of an effort to take what was left. A squad of Space Marines seems almost overkill for taking on a hive city let a lone an entire Primarch.

I think a squad of Space Marines is pretty on level to take on a Hive City. I mean they will not capture the entirety of it on their own but they could probably push the balance over the edge. And it would be dependent on the legion/chapter. Raven Guards could do it solo prob, by rallying the populace. Alpha Legion too, they use anyone. Others would manage to massacre the leadership, or sabotage infrastructure. In open combat it would be more tricky, since nobles can have all kinds of stuff in their backrooms, the underhive is very nasty, and well the Arbites do have heavy weapons. Any of them is not gonna hold up to an Astartes but people do get lucky sometimes.

48:35 Water's physical properties and consistent behaviour towards enviromental changes makes it an extremely useful basis for maeasuring energy. Most, if not all, units of force/energy are directly tied to their effect on water (specifically, boiling it or increase it's temperature). For example, a calorie (those nasty things many crazy people count better than their own money) is basically the amount of energy needed to raise one gram of water's temperature by one degree (Celcius). So, yeah, it would be really easy to calculate energy based on kettles of water...

Given that the Imperium of Man is stated as being made up of at least 1 million worlds at any point in time, and if each Hive has at least 1 billion citizens, assuming at least a thousand hives on each world, we're talking about 900 quadrillion humans existing solely in Hives assuming they make up 90% of worlds. There are at a high estimate around 400 billion stars in our galaxy, so the Imperium has 2.25 million humans per star in our galaxy just from hives alone. As such I doubt Hive worlds make up 90%, but even at 10% that's still 1/4 million humans per star.

As a warhammer nerd, got to the section on starships, really depends on the starships. Some starships are specifically designed to be so simple to produce a single planet, not even a hive, can build one in a century without help(other than the mechanicus contingent that is doing the actual assembly of course.)

Technically, Terra is an even worse Nar Shadda, which is basically an entire planet of the lower levels of Coruscant to begin with Seattle isn't even close to a Hive City. Not even scratching it Downtown Manhattan maybe. Walled city, for SURE

Love this episode! it truly puts the raw scale of not only how big these structures are, but also the amount of resources the Imperium will strip from a planet in the name of "Progress" I hope it also highlights the fear that you must feel Isyander, the fear of the impending truth that you signed a contract that MUST be followed through with. @@skynyrdjesus No, because you felt good about seeing something coming before it came up. If you'd been happy at the fact that people had suffered, that'd be different. Merely feeling satisfied because you knew about something awful that was already history and that it was relevant to the topic at hand is no cause for concern. Or else history would be evil and historians pure evil 😆

Words of affirmation are entirely too rare and I appreciate them more than I have the words in English, French, Spanish, Greek or Latin to say. TU BELLISIMA SIVE ORVIS EST, is probably the closest I've got. However. History as a discipline is wonderful, and I've devoted most of my life to it, but what's extant was indescribably horrifying, and being a historian for the sake of actual history is probably newer than you would think. Or, at least, that's what one has to surmise by what works have survived. I'd like to claim there have always been historians who can't be bought and shackled to a patrons narrative, but by what exists today that would be a lie.

I've read a handful of the HH books and some of Gaunt's Ghosts and what i loved, particularly in 'Legion' was how the Hove 'culture' is based very very loosely off of a real-world culture which is reflected in the linguistic patois of that particular Hive. John Grammaticus does an internal monologue about it when meetign a few of the Guard, he notes they have a, paraphrasing here, 'Thai/Malai based Dialect,' and upon hearing that he can pinpoint the Hive world from where some of the guardsmen originate. And of course, John also takes 2 seconds to work his brain and his internal Babelfish lets him instantly converse with them. Dan Abnett is particularly good at that. In 40k amd SciFi in general linguistics don't really come up that much and I just love the little details like that when they do. Especially language barriers, etymology, linguistic breakdown, how the mish-mash of the different languages would have frankensteined together, i just think it's neat when that stuff pops up.
