Question: So I know you've stated that we most likely won't have access to server manager as tier 1 so would we need to install server 2016/2019 & do it that way to install the printer? Trying to understand how we would do it in a work environment.

Really depends on the company and how they set it up. Some companies use a 3rd party tool to add printers. Some companies let you look up a printer on the network and you can add it automatically.

Hi Kev, your videos have been super helpful. I tried adding the printer to a different user an that user was able to see and install it, I tried removing everyone from the security but that didn't work. Is that normal?

it's supposed to work, just tested it.

OK, I was thinking there would be a restriction to who can add the printer like only HR and the domain admins.

You can do that. Advanced ntfs settings but you have to know what your doing.

Weird. All I could do was follow along with this one. "add printer" wasn't an option for me. In it's place was "extended view", which doesn't really do anything

Are you using server 2016? This is a role on the server

@@KevtechITSupport yeah, I'm using server 2016. Went to manage> add roles and features> server roles(print and document services). Then installed it. Went to print management> all printers> right clicked on the same spot as you and it just has "show extended columns, refresh, export list, etc. Such a weird issue. Tried reinstalling as a Hail Mary and it didn't work

@@KevtechITSupport yeah, I tried rewatching a few times to see if I was missing anything. I right clicked right below the Microsoft prints to PDF and Microsoft XPS document writer, and add a printer isn't an option for me. Kind of a mystery tbh

I had the same issue, it did not show up and both virtual machines are connected. I don't think he's replying to people on these old videos. It sucks

how did you get the hp printers on the list when installing a new one. I only see the microsoft print to pdf?
