It's a brilliant move because stockfish has become so advanced that it knows about your winning condition
@CripplifiedАй бұрын
If my chess coaching has taught me anything, it's that it's better to look for the best move or even an excellent/good move. Even master level players don't understand how brilliancy works with stockfish
@U20E0Ай бұрын
@@CripplifiedThat's because brilliant moves aren't decided by stockfish. It's some very arbitrary-seeming conditions stacked on top of a best move.

Nd6: drops evaluation from +0.1 to -0.28. Stockfish: a brilliant move, by the way
@AndrewBrownKАй бұрын
I need to understand
@lerarosaleneАй бұрын
@@AndrewBrownK Stockfish provides evaluation as a number. Positive number means white is winning, negative - black is winning. If after your move evaluation becomes less in your favor, it means that you probably did something wrong. It's not like this drop is significant, tho, but still, Nd6 isn't even in top three moves that Stockfish suggests. That's why I am puzzled about how this is brilliant move.
@TheAkunoKageАй бұрын
@lerarosalene Brilliant moves, as I understand it, are moves where stockfish's evaluation is game-losingly negative on low depth, but fine or better on higher depth.
@RanetaCroakАй бұрын
@@TheAkunoKage They also only count as brilliant if you're sacrificing a piece. It's also derived from your rating IRC, so the same brilliant 100 elo move may not count as brilliant for a high elo player.

Brilliant moves are now awarded for brilliant content posted day after day. Nobody thanks you for your work, but thanks Simp, your blend of funny and clever videos bring a nice spark of joy.
@ModieАй бұрын
They changed brilliant moves at some point. Now, whenever you sacrifice a piece and it's keeping the advantage (or it keeps the balance) then it will be considered a brilliant move. Even if it's not an actual sacrifice like here. It's easier to understand why it's brilliant, but it also made it that you get more !! than ! at low levels.
@RealGamemistory23 күн бұрын
No it's because at lower ratings these moves are harder to find s9 stockfish considers them as brilliant
@Modie23 күн бұрын
@@RealGamemistory Just watch the Candidates tournament and you'll see how often Brilliant moves are given. Doubt they think they are hard to find for players at this rating level. The rating level was what they did before. Back then, brilliant was the highest form of only moves. Basically if you only had one good move and the computer considered it to be hard to find at your rating level, it was giving out a brilliancy. That often was a sacrifice, because at lower levels up to maybe 2000 these might be hard to spot, but as mentioned, they changed, probably because people like to see brilliant moves.

To be fair, I think the brilliancy comes from the fact you’re threatening an open bishop and delaying castling. …or something. You trade your knight for a generally stronger position on the board.

random is a library, dictionary is another concept. love your videos man
@aliceroberts5928Ай бұрын
I put the position into an engine to try understand why it thinks this is a brilliant move. It thinks if queen takes it's +0.01 But it thinks that black should play, Bishop takes knight, +1.34 I'm not sure why the engine thinks the best move is to play something that puts it as a 1.34 disadvantage, but that's the reason.

This wouldn't be close to the first time I see low depth Stockfish completely contradict it's own ratings from one move to the next.
@anthonylloydii96Ай бұрын
This makes me think of a new idea: 100-rated chess, but it's battleship. you choose a square every turn to keep your opponent from placing pieces on... and a square is chosen at random on your opponents turn to make that square unusable for you. if a piece is already on a square designated as unusable, that piece cannot move. you cannot pick a square on your turn that the random generator has chosen on your opponent's turn. If the game lasts more than 32 combined turns (you run out of squares), the video ends.

@squintzrules732624 күн бұрын
I'm not sure if any other comment mentioned already but it is actually much worse than a 1/64 before the challenge even starts, there is a 50/50 chance the challenge will be impossible and you will lose automatically because of the starting location of the pieces Additionally, the center 2 squares on the opposing side are almost certainly auto losses, since a majority of players even at lower elo will inevitably enter those squares at some point during the early point in the match. I don't count the center on the play side (your side) since anyone with this challenge would not intentionally throw and enter these squares. We could also include some other extremely common moves to illustrate how bad the odds are to even play this challenge, but that is a little contrived and one could make an argument for any square on the board being a "common move" With all that said, it's essentially a 17/32 to *lose* even before you begin. You only truly have a 15/32 chance to even play the game. Excellent work as always.
