I think it’s something to do with the licensing because the Punisher is also included in a lot of the Arcade1up machines so they probably just threw it in as a bonus because it was part of whatever licensing agreement made this happen

Understated threshold that has been passed: For MVC2 to get ported cleanly, they would have had to develop some sort of NAOMI emulator, and adapt it to the RE engine. This means that now other Capcom NAOMI games are on the table. Project Justice, Power Stone 1 & 2, and Capcom Vs. SNK 1 & 2 are now so much more viable than they've ever been.

The Punisher game, along with Alien v Predator, is a classic Beat Em Up that has been hard to find because of the licensing issues. Marvel also thought the game was too violent. It was the first Marvel licensed game Capcom made, so yes, it's a really nice surprise that it's here and completely makes sense.

On the Japanese version of the Punisher's ending: The original version had a picture of the New York Skyline of the time, which prominently featured the Twin Towers in fiery orange light. (EDIT: lorekMetal in the replies mentions the more likely reason)

Anita is the sister of Donovan from Darkstalkers. She was only playable in the Japanese arcade version of MSH by messing with the dip switches. She is broken as hell. Her Infinity move does like 75% damage ON BLOCK.

Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter was my first introduction to these games. We had an arcade cabinet at the local Pizza Hut in my town and every weekend my best friend and I would go there and get a pizza and play it. A few years later in my sophomore year of high school the pizza parlor up the street from the high school had a MVC2 cabinet and we would go there for our lunch break and after class to play it.

The Punisher is a goooood choice for a side game to play. This is what MK needs to do instead of Ivasions. Just have a side scroll beat em up game. This has always been an idea I had for fighting games. For folks that dont always want to go hard with labbing their characters and fighting online. They can play The Punisher. A great choice from Capcom. Just like in SF6. You can go sit down with your avatar and play in the arcade a random game. Thats what Punisher provides. Great idea

MSHSF wasn't as popular because it significantly tamed the game down. Combos were more limited since XSF was a bit too over the top. But MSHSF intrdouced a staple: the partner assist. What's nice in this game is that the damage occurred during this time when your character assist was called could not be 100% recovered unlike later games.

back in the day at the arcade we didnt use frame date cause we couldnt we used sound and combos were like keys on a piano. it really helped with the timing looking at it that way.

When I was 4 I'd play this on an arcade cabinet at WALMART. My Nana would save up at least 3 plays for me every time we went to Walmart. I never forgot how she would go shopping and watch me get bodied. I still remember my team as well Megaman, Spider-Man, and Ryu.

Hyped for a lot of things, I used to play those at arcades back in the days, funnily enough at the Disney orlando resort. I had no idea how FG were working, so I"ll be very happy to get my hand on those and actually know what's up. I never played The Punisher growing up, but I feel like I've heard good things about it. And, while I'm definitely more interested in the collection for MvC2 since I only ever got to play it briefly arcades when all I knew how to do was mash, I think it's nice to have a beat 'em up thrown in there. I'm sure there's plenty of crossover between fighting game and beat 'em up fans to have it make sense too. I could see someone wanting to switch from the head-to-head of a fighting game for the co-op of a beat 'em up as well.

I have probably piece mealed out most of this collection across a couple systems, but it's always nice have everything in one place and working smoothly. I imagine the Punisher was thrown in since Capcom couldn't bundle it into the Beat em collection due to rights tieing it up when they released that a few years back , (as was case with AvP and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs being left out.). The arcade version of the Punisher wasn't able to be purchased up till now, so this gives any fans a chance to play it legally. It definitely doesn't hurt that it's in there and this the only other potential collection it could been released with that was semi-relevant to it as Capcom was already working out a deal with Marvel to do this, so made sense to throw it in with the rest of it.
