I've been up at this all night long I've been drowning in my sleep I've prayed for your safe place And it's time for us to leave Time is running Is running on empty and the gas is running out I've decided that tonight is the night that I Let love aside Full speed ahead this seems to be the place I've seen this once before Planned perfection sought in my dreams Hoping this would take you home My knuckles have turned to white There's no turning back tonight Kiss me one last time Around this turn where The cross will cast your shadow The people will all gather To remember such a day Where the flames grew as high as trees And the world stopped, it stopped For you and me My knuckles have turned white There's no turning back tonight Kiss me one last time Shut your eyes My knuckles have turned white There's no turning back tonight So hold on tight Kiss me one last time Shut your I will now bring new meaning to the word alone Endless nights of dreaming of life And the days we should have spent here Drowning in my sleep I'm drowning in my sleep Drowning in my sleep I'm drowning in my sleep Glass shatters and comes to a halt) I thought we'd be there by now I thought it would be so much quicker than this Pain has never been so brilliant I made sure you were buckled in Now you can walk hand in hand Hand in hand with him My knuckles have turned white There's no turning back tonight Kiss me one last time (shut your eyes) My knuckles have turned white There's no turning back tonight (so hold on tight) So hold on tight Kiss me one last time Shut your.

I discovered Underoath in my freshman year of high school, 2009, and quickly fell in love with this song bc I thought it was edgy as all shit and just loved the general sound of it. I had a friend who brought me onto the high school tennis team and bonded over this band and this song with me. She was a senior and an absolute sweetheart. March 15th, 2010, she died in a car accident. Around this time of year, I generally look up stuff that we bonded over (movies, video games, songs, etc) and only now, while drunk, did I actually realise this song was about a car accident. Fuck quarantine and fucking being drunk and sad.

It feels like these guys still have a good grasp of the gospel and may be writing from a seriously cold, cold place from God. We are to be hot or cold for God as believers, not lukewarm - haven’t seen lukewarm out of Underoath. Their message can still be utilized for good especially in our day and age for what some of these kids deal with. It could be the perfect thing to seep into a “Christian” household where a teen needs to hear something they are going through without being shamed or condemned by their parents (who may have hidden agendas of their own with infidelity, porn, alcohol, drugs, etc.). Too often, parenting doesn’t depict the love of The Father. Even as an adult, I can hear what is going on through the lyrics here and I can feel that God calls out to them in their pain. Even David said, “My God, My God, what hast thou forsaken me?” in Psalms 22:1. Even Jesus says those exact same words to fulfill His obedience to God.

According to drummer Aaron Gillespie: "I was 20 years old when Spencer (Chamberlain) and I [wrote] that song. We had this idea about what happens when you love someone, really love them, truly love them. In the Bible it says that we’re to love our wives as Christ loved the church, which is an impossibility, because we don’t have the capacity to love like Christ does, and it’s impossible…So we had this morbid idea that there would be this guy, he would be driving a car. And if you read the lyrics, the verse involves a car accident. There’s this guy and he’s driving this car, and he’s so in love with this girl that he decides to kill them both. He’s so in love with her that he realizes it is impossible to love her the way he’s supposed to, so he decides to just drive off the road. That’s the narrative line of the story in the song. But it’s really about loving someone and knowing that you’ll never be able, in your capacity, to love them the proper way."
@Minifigcreator975 жыл бұрын
Gotta love the hypocrisies in religious texts. You can’t love anything the way your supposed to. But all things are possible with God. But to reach the love he’s supposed to he has to break a commandment of God.
@Minifigcreator975 жыл бұрын
Paul but if you don’t sin then doesn’t that make you a perfect being just like God? And that is apparently not okay. Cause no one should be able to achieve that height right? You see why religion isn’t quite as concrete as people think it is?
