I would imagine that they are given a few days to relax before any serious basic training is given. I would imagine that the first few days are classroom only. The weeks after is when they start their proper basic training.

Respect to all Gurkhas. I'll never forget the days we trained alongside in the PSBC, I've made friends for life. A few years ago, while in Penang Malaysia, I met an ex high ranking Gurkha officer. I sat with him in a little street cafe and listened to him. I drank a few beers but he didn't. He spoke perfect gentleman's english. It was a great afternoon. He was a really great man and soldier. Salute the Gurkhas. They are great.

I met a Gurka in Malaysia who was working as a security guard. Seeings as the pay in the British army is extremely high compared to wages in Malaysia, I was confused as to why he was in Malaysia, instead of, perhaps, staying in Britain. As it turned out, he had served in the Indian army as a Gurkha, so, once he left he was still relatively poor. I didn't know at the time, but there are 7 Gurkha regiments in the Indian army...

@@bobk480 I think you will find that Gurkhas volunteer in their thousands every year to compete for a few opportunities to earn very good money as a British soldier so they are not being "used". As for the commonwealth being "done for", it is true to say that it is a voluntary organization, one that benefits countries that join. Gambia and Zimbabwe are 2 countries that left, but have now applied to rejoin..... Just remember this fact. If it was not for the British Empire, most countries would still be walking everywhere, the roads would still be dirt, there would be no trains, cars or motorcycles, no computers or internet. They would still be living as they were before Europeans arrived, for some, that was the stone age.

@@digdougedy Garbage opinion of yours. In the case of what you said here "Just remember this fact. If it was not for the British Empire, most countries would still be walking everywhere, the roads would still be dirt, there would be no trains, cars or motorcycles, no computers or internet. They would still be living as they were before Europeans arrived, for some, that was the stone age" Before the British arrived on the shores of Bharat (India) it controlled 25% of world trade, was the main producers of cloth, exporter of gold and diamonds. There were no mines of diamonds anywhere else. Trains were made to transport loot not to benefit the locals. The British caused a famine that killed 5 million bengalis. India was already democratic with local village elections, was okay with gays and transexualism, was okay with the use of medicinal cannabis, already knew surgery and astronomy, built dams, had mega cities. So don't talk through your ass. The British empire stole 45 trillion from India alone and now india has overtaken the British economy within 70 years (in comparison to 200 years of looting) you guys must be the dumbest race on this entire planet

I grew up in a town where Gurkhas trained. It was not uncommon to see them out and about in civies (always looking very respectable in well pressed suits) or in their uniform. They were always very pleasant and polite and welcoming. I'd always wave at army lorries that went past me, and the Gurkhas always waved and smiled out the open back. It always brought a massive smile to my young face to see them all leaning in to wave and smile ✨ In todays times it may not _"sound right"_ to label them all with the same impressions, but when every one I have met and seen, and I read all these comments (not just here, but anytime I've read about them) of other peoples experiences of them and their people being so decent, it not only deserves to be said. It should be said.

We used to go on big dog walks in the fields near the base and he talked about them often when we walked past. I was only a little kid in the 90s and I wish I could remember more of the things he had to say. But the were always nice things. I do however distinctively remember him drilling it into me just how though they were. God bless you all! I've been admiring the loyalty of Gurkhas. The Brits are so welcoming too. That is what constitutes a civilised nation(sharing cultures, respect, serve one another) unlike some who were still stuck in the past.

Absolute respect to each and every Gurkha that serves our forces! You are legends and the toughest lads that we have the honour of serving us, every serving or ex soldier I've ever spoken to that has served with Gurkhas has spoke about them with nothing but the utmost respect and admiration, the latest of which was my mate who served in 1st battalion Mercian regiment in Afghanistan said that the Gurkhas were amazing soldiers and although they are small they are tougher and better disciplined than the biggest lad of ours he'd ever seen.

You have got to admire such determination and fortitude to travel all that way to wear the beret. There are young people in UK that wouldn't travel 50 miles from home in army training without moaning how far it is. It's so sad that the Nepalese mindset to endure hardship isn't in many young people of UK. They are a tough bunch and UK is lucky to have them.

To be fair there's probably Nepalese people who also wouldn't travel more than 50 miles from their home without moaning. They didn't make the cut. They didn't even apply.

His family are lovely and so welcoming and are really looking after me, and the food, I don’t know what to say. I did mention the house should be called Aama ko khajar ghar 😂👍 🇳🇵🇬🇧 And like wise, the heat here is killing me. Although I don’t miss cold icey and wet Britain 😮

I did my basic training in Catterick in 1984. Out on training excersises in the cold. Grabbing some shut eye under a bivvy. Waking up in a snowy pond with thunderflashes being thrown at us. Then river runs carrying tree trunks to an unknown destination which turned out to be the cs gas chambers. Ahhh memories haha.

While the UK is struggling to recruit the newer "woke" generation, its a relief that they still have a Gurkha regiment to keep up the military strength. A brave, loyal and fearless community, its a blessing to have them in the British Army.
