We have a 1996 Suburban 6.5 Turbo Diesel with over 250,000 miles on an original drive train running perfectly. Regular scheduled Maintenance helps. We also have a 2001 Suburban, also pretty much original, 235,000 miles also on a decent maintenance schedule. The GMT 400 and 800 series go a lot further then 100,000 miles mentioned. Give them a bit of care, that Suburban judging by the filthy interior was not given very good care.

I disagree with Toby about longevity of 90s-early 2000s vehicles. Technology was advanced enough to get ok economy & comfort and this genre of vehicles often made 200-300k miles with regular maintenance. Try getting that many miles on your GDI, MDS, turbo, 10 speed transmission modern truck…Ain’t happening! Unless you replace all the major components every 60-100k miles…

How can you be a truck guy and NOT know that GMC didn't make Suburbans 0:07? In the 90's Chevy and GMC both made Suburban and it was a marketing nightmare but in the 2000-2006 generation of GMC is when GMC changed from Suburban to Yukon XL and the Tahoe to just the GMC Yukon. I have a black fully loaded 1996 2500 7.4L 454 4x4 GMC Suburban, I believe that is when GM first came out with fuel injection on these trucks. I love that truck. I also have a 2004 white Chevy Suburban 4x4 with the 5.3L and also has been a rock solid truck as well. Can't wait to see the upcoming video on this series.

Throttle Body Injection (TBI) came out on GM trucks in 87, and for the 96 model here they came out with the "Vortec" engines, which was a port type injection system. That upgrade was good for about a 40 horsepower boost (for example, the Vortec 305 made the same horsepower as the TBI 454) and those vortec cylinder heads became a popular aftermarket swap on earlier small blocks. I wouldn't be surprised if you can still buy them new from GM performance parts.

The Suburban name was applied to both GMC and Chevy for decades. It’s hard to say it was a marketing “disaster” as the market for these barges was pretty limited until the go-go years of the 90s.

4:20 Uhhh... We know the small block can do way over 100k no problem so that can't be what he's referring to. My family had a 200k mile '99 suburban that didn't even have surface rust and it was in the Midwest. Idk what he means by it's almost dead at 100k.

The excursion was discontinued because it could not compete against the suburban. Too heavy,

Love this episode. I have a 2008 Cadillac Escalade ESV with 140K miles. Love it. I wish I could find a competent mechanic in Dallas area.
