It's Pączki Day! Polish Pączki Recipe - Jelly Donuts - Oven Baked Donuts

Today is paczki day and Grandpa is making paczki which are Polish donuts. Paczki day is celebrated on Fat Thursday which is the last Thursday before Lent. In some areas, Paczki Day is celebrated on Fat Tuesday which is the last Tuesday before Lent. During Lent, it was a tradition to give up eating sweets for 40 days. Paczki Day was the day to eat as many fatty and sugary foods as you wanted before Lent began. That's also why these days are called Fat Thursday and Fat Tuesday. It's believed that if you don't eat a paczki on this day, you will have bad luck the rest of the year. Grandpa and I don't want to have bad luck and we don't want you to have bad luck, so we would like to show you how to make Paczki.

Grandma gets to taste these wonderful donuts this time. Lucky you!👍☺️ They look really delicious, and I like that there is an option to bake, rather than fry. If my mother was still alive, she would have loved these, as old fashioned jelly donuts were her favorite. I used to do a lot more baking when I had others around to help consume the finished product. I'll eventually have to get one from the donut shop (sadly), rather than make up a nice batch that I would have to eat all by myself. I appreciate you making and showing them to us at this time, so that we may share in the good luck! Yes, just when the 2' drifts were beginning to melt, and I'm seeing areas of lawn, here we go again with 4-8" of snow coming in tomorrow! At least we didn't get the ice storm here yesterday (or two days ago?) that had initially been predicted. After a couple of quiet winters, we are certainly making up for it with this active pattern this year---it's hard to keep up! It's been tough on my ferals, too--- Mommacat and TabbyBoots had trouble getting in for food after the two deep snows. I hope your ferals are faring well, and that you and Grandpa stay warm and safe!!

Grandpa, your paczki look delicious! I think i would prefer the elderberry fill. Not a fan of anything with strawberry. I'd opt for cherry or peach i think. I do like fresh strawberry's though, funny isn't it? Family heirlooms are a treasure to hold on to Grandma. Like the bowl your grandma used to make the paczki. I have some old records and a photobook to hold on to, that belonged to my parents, nothing older than that, but i treasure them anyway. Thanks for the lovely video´s!

1 1/2 cup flour 1/4 cup sugar I packet of active dry yeast 2/3 cup milk 110 degree temperature 3 tablespoon butter 2 egg yolks 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla If you bake with salt it is 1/4 Teaspoon 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla Don’t forget to add 1 Teaspoon sugar to the yeast and milk
