People are so entrenched in their beliefs that they are not only unwilling to even listen to a differing point of view, they want that differing point of view shut down so that it doesn't possibly influence anyone else listening. At the slightest sign of disagreement every political conversation turns into vulgar name calling, comparing people to nazis, declaring everyone idiots that don't agree with them, and ridiculous straw man arguments. The most disingenuous form of expression is shouting someone else down, but sadly that is pretty much the entirety of political discourse in this country right now. Phil, I've been watching your videos religiously on KZbin and Facebook since roughly 2009 (or whenever it was you started vloggity I think), and no matter what topic you're talking about I've always admired your openness to other opinions and willingness to change your own. From dumb Florida stories to serious foreign policy and civil debates, LTA, SourceFed, all your projects are underscored by that discourse mindset. As the news becomes both increasingly mad on the one hand and unreliable on the other it is becoming necessary to facilitate the exchange of information and opinions peacefully as never before. I don't think you provide facts in spite of sharing your opinion, but because of it: openly sharing and justifying an opinion requires facts to be given; an honest openness to discussion means no opposition to transparency. You're a reasonable bloke, and I, among millions of others, can attest to that after years of watching. That's how you start. You can't possibly expect to be able to investigate events happening around the world, or even just in this country, when you're just starting out. So, instead of investigating, you research. You take other people's investigations, collate them, examine all sides, and try to present them without the biases that so often come with them these days. That's what sets this show apart from so many others. And as he grows, who knows. Maybe he could turn this into an investigative news source, hiring his own journalists. In any case, it's far better than what most "news" organizations do.

A lot of theories out there at the moment so let me explain mine. Philly D is using patreon not only to gather funds but to gather support. He doesn't necessarily need the money. KZbin has given him plenty of money. All new businesses are a gamble, however if people are donating to a project, they are likely to want to see the project be successful because otherwise it would be a wasted donation. So if Philly is building a new sourcefed and people are donating then they will watch and support even if it's shit. Consequently making him more money.

I agree, but my only concern is that this idea might be too romanticised. Even if we are to assume that Phil himself can present the facts in an objective way before getting opinions involved consistently (which he has done well so far) if more and more people are added to the team that may run the risk of the 'facts' getting slightly distorted, not researched properly, or subtly getting injected with a bias unintentionally or otherwise. I trust in Phil's vision and a news network that focuses on facts first sounds great, but there's a part of me that feels like it can't be done. That even if it does do well at launch it will only be a matter of time until the the objectivity starts slipping. And that's not a judgement I'm making on Phil or any potential people he may hire to his news team, I just feel like it's human nature to gravitate towards bias even when you are trying not to. Then again, maybe I'm just cynical.

Can't say I have seen him as much of him as most of you, but enough to say this. He seems to suffer from a bias. A neutrality bias. The news is supposed to be objective, not neutral. Maybe now that he is on his own, that will end. The last thing the world needs in another cable style chanel, presenting both sides of an issue where there is not 2 sides. An example being climate change, there is not 2 sides. Having 2 people on, one spouts political talking points, the other facts and calling it a draw, then saying what do you think folks! I am only using climate change as an example. There are many sides to that debate about solutions, should we tax carbon, should we intervene in the climate etc... We also don't need another chanel calling itself news, when all they do is repeat the reporting of actual news stations and giving their opinion. That is not news, we have TYT who does that and calls themselves independent media. They are neither independent nor media. Nothing wrong with that, but don't call yourself independent media.

I have such a massive problem with the haters in the comment sections. Mainly because they embody everything that Phil stands against, which is misinformation and ignorance. I'm not sure if people are aware, but KZbin creators, even extremely successful ones, are NOT all millionaires despite what clickbaity internet articles lead you to believe. Second, the reason he's asking for money isn't because he's a "greedy fuck" etc. but because he's trying to provide advertiser FREE content. He's giving you news for free if you become a supporter or not. Can you say the same about the cable subscription you pay for to watch CNN and other news sources of the like? I really don't think so. Although it makes me so happy to see the overwhelming support, every single person that says something about Phil's greediness is entirely missing the point of why he's crowdfunding and are the kinds of people that shouldn't be in his audience anyway. At that point, it's a safer bet to assume they are until proven otherwise. Not that it's possible to prove anything anyway given the fact that KZbinrs aren't allowed to disclose actual earnings.
