I just got here....just watched your most recent crab video. First thought I had was "wow I'm surprised they didn't die". We tried this stuff when I was young...and they always died. They go through SO much in those stores before you get them. It's such a shock to their system. HOWEVER..... YOU are at LEAST giving them the most wonderful love, spoiling them and letting them enjoy whatever life they have left so they know at least SOMEONE cared before they move on. THAT is worth everything to them. The tanks can be reused to rescue the next lucky creature. What you are doing is a good thing....might be the ONLY good thing that ever happens to them.

I just found your channel. You are like my perfect fantasy world, where the animals are saved from their awful scary doom. You make me feel normal. I want to save everything I run into. Just remember that whenever a creature dies, the impact they made on the world will never die, and likewise with your mission, the impact your heart has on the world will change it forever. 💕

Don't quit! Remember that it's absolutely not your fault if an animal dies trying to molt or catches a disease; it's just how things go, and there's nothing you can do. In the meantime focus on the positives and give the animals the best care you can and everything will turn out fine.

@@protobhack5683 I can only reply to comments on KZbin but I can't post a comment. Hoping Josh can see this. The crabs in the stores may already be old but remember that they can take weeks to months to molt. They will appear totally dead. You will know it's dead if it smells bad. They won't eat prior to molting for many days. Your channel gets so many views and I think you should have more content. Not less. I like the grocery store pet idea. Wash hands well and rinse well when putting arms in your tank. I would avoid adding live food to keep tanks sterile.

PLEASE remember that the crabs would have passed away A LOT sooner, and in a more horrible way, if it wasn't for you. You can't possibly know their age when you save them, or what they've been through. They lived longer because of you, not the opposite. Keep saving them as long as it brings you joy.

I know this is an old video but you will have to deal with this again obviously. Yes they die, animals always die. Especially ones that have been abused like the ones you got from stores. You are taking on the hardest job and making things so much harder on yourself. Even if they die after a few weeks you just have to take pleasure on the fact you gave them an amazing time up until their natural death. Instead of painful and stressfully tortured deaths they had a chance to live in a safe environment with all the food and entertainment you can provide. I can’t have anymore dogs because when they die, they hurt me too much. I cry for years, I never forget them. But somebody like you is doing amazing things and helping innocent animals have some kind of life. Keep your chin up, you are a great person.

Josh, I recently stumbled upon your channel (with your video on Waffle) and I honestly found myself tearing up when she first explored the tank. You are awesome, thank you for giving these animals another chance at life. Some of them would pass on but that's just how life goes and I'm sure they're immensely thankful for having the life you gave them. Keep doing what you do. We're all behind you!

PLEASE don't give up, deaths are natural and you have given your pets more time in life than being in a grocery store waiting to die horribly. Rest In Peace Blueberry, when crabs molt, it's best to leave them alone and be undisturbed to reduce a molting failure, I hope that advice helps if you see this. RIP Blueberry and don't give up Josh ❤️❤️❤️

I feel you man, losing an animal you only got to spend a short amount of time with is nothing short of demoralising and sad. You have made a very captivating series, and I can only hope you continue it because I genuinely find them a blast to watch. Your loving and caring nature is just what these animals need in their doomed lives of being captured. By all means, do what you feel is best and don't feel forced to continue things, and I hope you get through this rough realisation soon. Either way, I'll continue watching whatever content you put out since you're an amazing person who deserves the world ❤.

Hey Josh, I just found your channel and went through all the grocery store pet videos - I loved every single one! You do so much work at giving these animals a loving home and your excitement and care really shows every time you interact with them. Despite the sad passings of pancake, blueberry, and probably croissant by now, you gave them a home they'd be forever grateful for and happy to have experienced - never feel bad for that reality. Many people in the comments said its likely due to the poor conditions of their lives in grocery stores that ruined their chances of living long and I do agree with that notion. You've been doing all you can and I'm sure because of that their lives were lived to the fullest they could be at that point. I would love to see this series continue; grocery store pets or even if you get pet store pets - I can see you giving them wonderful lives no matter where they come from. All i can say is that as long as you don't deteriorate your mental health by continuing, i hope to see you post again. We believe in you! ❤

When I take on a new creature, I say to them- “You’ve been eaten. Now you become part of the body or you will have been just a meal. I will do my best for you and all of yours we bring.” Kind of an explanation, apology and a promise all in one. Become part of the aquarium room or part of the compost heap.

Aww I will miss Blueberry! That's become one of my favorite videos lately. Please don't quite! I love seeing how happy each of your rescues get when they realize they won't be eaten. In a way, I would kind of expect rescues to possibly not live very long and you are caring for creatures that usually get eaten so that kind of lowers their survival rate. The important thing is that they die happy and most of the rescues I've seen look pretty happy.

You have to do proper research before you take in any animal, that would significantly decrease the chance of them dying. For example i think you fed or wanted to feed that possum cheese when possums really shouldnt be eating dairy products. Its little things like these where you dont research their diet enough or their habitat. If you really want to keep going please do a significant amount of research mainly their diet, habitat and safe roommates

One of my neighbor's use to have them living in the wooden post by the street down the road from me on there property lot on the wood stand of there mailbox and over the years they really got to know everyone and wow were they really nice and friendly and very fun! However after 8 years worth one night a drunk driver crashed during the night right into my neighbor Mimi's mailbox and it killed the entire Carpenter bees including the one i use to interact with that was the watch bee that stayed above the mailbox over there and when a drunk driver smashed and knocked my neighbor's mailbox over it killed them all and nowdays nobody gets to see them anymore but they lived a very long time! It is possible that they might enjoy living indoors with you however you might have a hard time finding carpenter bees. They might however do well indoors but not sure.

I mean, if you want an actual critical comment rather than just support, I would say I've noticed although it seems you definitely want the best for the animals, sometimes you have to really minmax making the tank as great as possible and not cutting corners especially with something not bred for longevity in captivity past being fresh enough to eat. Specifically crustaceans will fail molts even in great conditions. So if something minor is missing, this is something weird like the iodine not being at a proper level or calcium or what have you, add the captivity and it can be pretty difficult to pass molts. I think one thing that helps me in the same situation is backtracking to see what I could've done better / changed because sometimes animal husbandry is trial and error even with the best of intentions. It is painful to admit possible mistakes or oversights but it also gives me more confidence to deal with it properly the next. Also honestly bigger tanks are always better, so is not coupling together too many different tankmates as it begins to get complicated when an issue must be addressed or trying to make sure the stress of the tank isn't gonna shoot up.

I was traumatized because I tried keeping three blue crabs from the grocery store, one after the other, and they would die for some reason or another. One of them, my baby girl, got the kiss of death too, the black spot disease. But every time I kept them, I learned more and the next one would live longer. There's not much out there about keeping blue crabs as pets, and most of the info I found was about raising them for food. My late Cpt. Hook, the last of the three, lived until he had to molt and was stuck midway out of taking off his shell. Maybe they need a strong current to help them out of their shells? I couldn't look at another crab without feeling sad. But recently, I saw your videos, and I was so happy that FINALLY someone else out there was trying to keep them as pets too! I laughed when I saw Pancake take the shrimp and it reminded me of how fulfilling it was to keep my crabs. And now that my heart had time to heal, I want to try again. I found your videos and my excitement to keep them again was reignited. They are such rewarding pets and it's a shame there's not more info on them. I feel like we crab-lovers are figuring it out step by step, and giving grocery store crustaceans a chance to live comfortably instead of being eaten. If they still bring you joy, please keep trying! Hopefully, crabs will become more accessible as pets in the future, especially when there are people like you working their ass off to figure out how to keep these little guys alive and sharing that information with the world.

Ok, pep talk, I've been a fan for a while now, and always look forward to your uploads. I think that you still have the power to continue, but you should do what you think is right for yourself. Just remember that we will be here even if you take a break from uploading. Please don't feel pressured. I'm sure everything will work out for you.

Honestly? I totally understand you being devastated for any of the grocery pets, but you gave them lives that were so much better! They were in awful conditions, waiting to be eaten, and instead you gave them a new home and enrichment! If that isn't something to be happy about, I don't know what is! ❤❤❤❤

The pets are much happier with you in their short lives then they would've been if left alone in the wild (imo). And, in turn, made you happier having had them. Don't give up🙏🏻

Based on title alone yes absolutely, youve put animals in so many unnecessarily stressfull situations despite so many people telling you its not a good idea. And then these animals die and you go "UwU im so sad." If you wanna be a vlog channel be a vlog channel, if you wanna be an animal channel, then do it and put more time and effort into the animals rather than filming cool stuff with them. You can do one or the other, not both.
