Are you Pro-Electric Aircraft or Anti-Electric Aircraft please let me know! I'm interested to hear your thoughts...

Pro. The world has a finite supply of oil and someday it will be gone. Electric or hydrogen powered aircraft are a pretty decent alternative to a return to the age of sail.
@FoolishPursuitForce5 жыл бұрын
Neither. I'm all for net zero carbon emissions but don't see how an aircraft with nearly equal MTOW and MLW can be economically viable unless the energy storage medium is science fiction levels of power density.
@vaalrus5 жыл бұрын
I’m for it. I’m still mildly shocked we’ve wrangled the energy density up enough to get this far. Even more that the Pipistrel Alpha Electric trainer has been flying for quite a while, and certified in a wide range of jurisdictions. Modular batteries so you can have one in the aircraft, and as many as you need on the ground so you always have one ready to go.

I heard about the E-Beaver a few weeks ago. The plan for converting a small fleet of these planes for bush flying made a lot of sense. 90% of their commercial flights are short range, well within the projected capability of the E-Beaver. We have electric cars and even an electric truck (Tesla) now, so I can see an electric plane having a place in the future of aviation.

Hi Mikey, great video. When I saw the sandblasting part, I remembered doing a few Super Cub fuselages. Once set up, it would take me about an hour to complete, using #6 nozzle & 375 CFM compressor. There was a cartoon in a local magazine with two panels, "power boating now" and "power boating in twenty years"; in the "now" panel the boat had huge engines that made a huge noise and the guy steering the boat enjoyed it, whereas his family and everybody around was just horrified. In the future panel, the boat had a silent electric motor, and the guy steering it had big earphones and a vibrating chair, and everybody else could enjoy the peace and quiet :-P

Hey Mikey ! A level 2 apprentice AMJ here from Winnipeg, big fan of your KZbin series and the old ice pilots series! Your foxmoth there by the looks of it and to the best of my knowledge from school, the plane uses a monocoque fuselage meaning that it doesn't use a frame or a semi monocoque fuselage design. The airframe uses the skin for its strength as well as some some skeleton item but the skin holds it all together, dents in the skin are extremely dangerous to the integrity of the frame as the skin is load bearing. Semi monocoque fuselage uses truss systems or a frame for its strength as well as the skin! Take care!

that Tiger Moth is so cool!! It reminds me of when I was a little kid (I have been obsessed with aviation my whole life. the first toy I can remember was a plastic 747 and I chewed on the wings) my dad would bring me old calendars with early airplanes and a lot of them had similar cabin arrangements. I am so glad for Joe to have a personal connection to this plane, a lot of love will go into that restoration. Again, if there is anything I could do to help, please let me know, I would be honored. As far as electric as airplanes go, I am a bit skeptical. jjus like with the cars, disposal of the batteries is not exactly environmentally friendly, and having spent years working on Wright-Cyclone R-3350 engines, there is nothing cooler on earth than radial engines. Stay warm and have fun with your rebuilds

Oh man, watching 32 and 33 in a row here. Mikey, bring us more of Joe. Joe, i really would love to hear all about blowpods and old stories and what not. bsolutely agree, living in norway, keeping your head warm, woolen long undies and good socks + Shoes are supwer important. We had -42 some 3 years ago, and i still look forward to every winter. While i love lush green landscapes, winter time is just magical. We have two cars, one of which is electric and with that in mind. I just say that Electric or Combustion it means little in the use. But you do have to think more economical. And for aviation it is important that energy savings do not impact safety margins. Other then that, go for it. I do think electric, at leat with batteries will be a relative short phase, as i don't think mass bettery usage is sustanable at all. Electric will see big variations in range with temperatures, so a bettery would have to be insulated enough to keep warm higher up and not overheat down below at takeoff/go around settings etc. EV's hate cold weather, more resistance in just about everything, and energy spent on heating. So i would expect Electric planes mainly to be used in warmer regions early on.

Nothing wrong with the idea of electric aircraft. I think it will be a long time before they are commercially viable. That is, being able to carry loads over long distances. Until then, they are little more than glorified drones. That's not to say that they haven't achieved a great deal by getting this plane in the air.
@sharoncassell93582 жыл бұрын

During Wwll planes had no heat. Thus the lambskin bomber jackets and scarf assembly. Gloves too. In 1980 we had no heat on planes with engines off. Upon repairing on ramp, we would bring a duct hose from gpu to get alittle warmth to work in the cockpit. Theres a motor in the floor for rudder control. Winters at night were freezing.

The "commercial" part is where one passenger pays for it to transport over a ton of batteries to the next charging point. How long to charge more than a ton of batteries from almost flat?
