I woke up to horns blaring and people yelling Saturday morning. Went outside my apartment and saw a shirtless dude holding a sign on the street corner outside Outside the Closet with a sign that said #BLM on one side and You're Fired on the other side. I went over and asked how long he was out there, and he said "I was out for a jog and saw Biden won. So, I went home, made a sign and came out here. I've never done anything like this before." He was on that corner for 5 hours at least. I bought him a water bottle. I saw him on Grindr later and said hi. He remembered me, and now we're friends.

I was at work at the flower shop when we learned about Biden winning, and we all hugged and screamed and then cried while we make bridal bouquets and table arrangements for a wedding happening later in the day. Luckily had time in between set up and closing for the wedding to lay back and enjoy the acceptance speeches for the President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and then I cried again. So happy and relieved.

on saturday, i drove down to DC with my quarantine pod, and the scene was insane. people were dancing in the streets, there was cheering and screaming and singing. we bought a bottle of champagne and drank it openly while walking around. it was a wonderful, joyful drunken night.

I’m gay, hispanic and female. My grandfather was my inspiration and in his honor I have worked with immigration rights groups in my state to help children divided at the border, These last four years have been unimaginable. I have never wanted anything more than this moment. I knew that my kids would ask me what I did to protect their democracy, I am going to be able to tell them that instead of being a “good citizen” I caused some trouble instead. I marched I worked the polls and did phone banking. When I heard the news my aunt and I rang bells and cheered in the streets. I called my mom and cried because I decided that if trump took her health care away I would become the Jon Walsh of healthcare. I decided that had trump won I would not become a mother because the risk of my child suffering because they were my child was too high. My mom and I cried on the phone and I celebrated that I felt safe enough to dream of one day being a mom. my neighbor and I danced and cried. Cheering “we won!” over and over. Its been an amazing week but there is so much more work to do,.
