That would be beneficial in only a daycare setting I would think when you need to prep more than one bottle otherwise it's just a big hassle to keep a large crock pot on your counter all the time. A bottle warmer is small and not that expensive anyways. Plus it will heat it to the exact temperature milk needs to be less guessing

Jessica I am a long time subscriber and about to be a Grammy in June. Thanks for so many great suggestions. Breast feeding is legitimately one of the hardest things. My first month was hell. I had mastitis, bleeding nipples, hell. But then it became easy and so rewarding. I hope you have a good support person. My husband ended up being my best support. As a dairy farmer he encouraged me to eat well and drink tons of water. Ive never eaten more than when I was breast feeding and lost every pound of baby weight within six months. He encouraged me to sleep and relax as much as possible. He was so chill it helped me stop worrying. Whatever you decide I hope it goes easier. Maybe meet with a lactation consultant. I'm so excited for you.

Every mom I've had the pleasure of gifting to has always loved a "nursing" basket. A lovely basket with a reusable, insulated water bottle, a good book to read, some puzzle books, their favorite granola bars, and usually an Audible subscription. I also like to include a charger for their phone so there's always one wherever they're nursing. If I know how many places the mom to be plans to have, I'll make a basket for each and then instruct their partner to make sure it always has water in the bottle and stocked with snacks. Even after breastfeeding is done, they've often been used when rocking a sick kiddo to sleep or when mom or partner are sick themselves. Everyone always thinks to get baby cute clothes and cute toys. Most people forget about momma. Another thing I like to do is get really nice body cream and a few pairs of comfy socks... PJs too if I know momma's size. IMHO momma should be changing from Pjs to PJs when she's given the opportunity to shower, at least for the first 6 weeks, minimum. It seems like once momma is wearing real clothes, everyone expects her to be back to her normal self... but the healing process both physically and mentally takes SO MUCH LONGER.

Weirdest Hack that I’ve done as a mom of 3 soon to be 4- instead of getting a wipe warmer I would grab a few wipes before I grabbed the baby and stick them in my bra, then they’d warm up before I’d change the baby and I didn’t need another gadget! I'm a mom of 3. Ive had almost all of the things listed here. I have used them all and made my mothering experience less stressful. Ive had all my babies on c section. After my last born. I couldn't get out of bed or carry the baby for a long time. I think baby things are essential. It depends on the preference of the mother and no one deserves to bash what works for the other mother. The first few weeks after birth are very stressful. Above all, a happy mom means a happy baby.

Even if you aren't gonna fully do the montessori method it is so great to research because the toy organization and rotation and stuff is a game changer for keeping children entertained on their own. I still get overwhelmed when my children decide to dump all the toys they have access to out and take forever to help them clean it up again. But there is a HUGE difference between their clean and messy room.

Not to mention reading the books really clues you in to how many ‘Montessori’ labeled things just aren’t! I saw a “Montessori busy board” that was over 2 feet by 2 feet with dozens of different zippers and buttons, etc. ….that’s not a Montessori concept…:

Number one regret was NOT looking into and deciding what formula I trusted/liked/wanted. I just assumed I was gonna be able to breastfeed. And when my baby didn’t latch I was left incredibly stressed sifting through the HUNDREDS of formula options while extremely exhausted/sleep deprived trying to make a decision. Not ideal and 100% contributed to my PPD.

If you want to buy a modular stroller - pro tip : buy the second seat right away when you buy the stroller. Yeah you might not use it but more annoyingly the brand often will change the style and it might be hard/impossible to get the second seat if the brand discontinues the line. This happened with the baby jogger city select 1 vs 2 so do yourself a favor and buy the second seat now! (this also applies to toddler bed conversion kits for cribs!!)

I have the doona and definitely regret buying that. The only perk is it’s a quick change from car seat to stroller but it’s HEAVY! Once the baby’s a bit bigger, it’s so hard to get them from the house to the car. Also, especially now in winter, the wheels get covered in snow, salt and mud and it then gets dragged onto your car seats and into the house. Now I’ll only really use it for a trip to the store when absolutely necessary. Also, the base broke within 6 months so beware!

We LOVE the baby brezza bottle warmer! It has multiple settings where you can use to warm bottles for formula or breastmilk. You shouldn’t use steam to warm breastmilk because it can kill good nutrients and bacteria in breastmilk so it has a setting that’s safe for that! You can also use it to warm baby food/pouches and even thaw frozen breastmilk! We have used and abused it for a year and it still works perfectly.

I had a bottle warmer with my first and it was a hard when we would be out. With my second I breastfed and bottlefed.I would just use room temp purified water with her formula because I didn't want her to get used to a warm bottle. Luckily it worked and it was never an issue. Worth a try. It's amazing how much us mamas learn the first time around.

I bottle fed and so I never warmed bottles from the beginning. Even the ones they give u in the hospital weren’t warmed so never had an issue. I just kept water in counter or since I used powder formula, I would pre make bottles with just the water so they would be ready to go! Plus if u have water system in ur fridge, pre filling bottles makes it to where water isn’t cold!

I just used room temp water for formula as well, more out of speed because warming bottles is so tedious. This time I should be able to breastfeed fine and if I pump I'm going to need to heat it since it won't be room temp.

I had an old bassinet, the wicker type. I made a beautiful lace skirt for it and several replacement sheets. It was frivolous, but beautiful and I don’t regret it at all. There are very few things you “must have”, besides a baby, diapers, a way to feed the baby, and keep it warm. And a decent, safe car seat.

I just went through all this with my baby who is now 9w old. Couple comments in addition to what Jessica mentioned in case it helps any new moms. -Babylist sells a bottle and pacifier sample pack. I highly recommend getting those first before investing in any one brand. -Baby mittens and socks are so cute but useless. Ones she recommended are the way to go! -Depending on the season baby is born (mine is a winter one) too many onesies aren’t really a necessity. I only bought 3 and ended up receiving a ton of them as a gift. I barely use them in order to avoid overheating the baby. -Newborn and 0-3 outfits (not one piece footies) I really didn’t need more than one or two. I thought I would have the energy to play dress up every day or be able to change her in and out of them as she napped. It was a cute but naive thought as a first time mom 🥲 -Magnetic Me sleepers: My baby ends up naked under her swaddle every time I put one on. If you’re really wanting one, I would suggest maybe investing in only one to see how it works for your LO first (Nordstrom rack has them on sale often) -Mamaroo: if you’re hoping to get your baby to nap (supervised) in this, I would think twice and maybe look into other options. I bought it out of desperation because my baby does not nap - period - While it entertains her and she likes it, it didn’t work for us for that purpose. I know, I know every baby is different but I don’t think any one motion is soothing enough for them to doze off. -Don’t invest in one swaddle type. Get one of each to see what your baby responds to. We found out the hard way 🥲 Lastly and most importantly, enjoy your baby! While most of these are nice to have, they really truly don’t need much ❤️

For basically all the reasons you listed, I'm buying most of my stuff from consignment stores or just second hand in general. The only thing I know I'm buying new is the carseat. I know both my husband's family and my family are going to get all kinds of clothes and knick knacks, so I didn't put a lot of clothes or toys on my registry. It has been saving an insane amount of money. I figured even if I ended up not using an outfit or an item a lot, at least I got it for cheap and just give them away to a momma that needs it down the road.

My baby’s 23 and I found the wipe warmer was the best!! I didn’t have one with my older two & really wasn’t sure if I’d benefit from it. It was a game changer for her little bottom. Obviously you’re not going to use it forever or take it when you’re away from home but the middle of the night changes in the first few months was wonderful. Less crying & tears, from the baby too. Another idea is to get one of the small beauty refrigerators. It may sound silly but sleep is a hot commodity when they’re young. Whatever you can do to shorten the time you’re awake, the best for the entire family. It never failed when you think you’re done, you put everything away in the kitchen, slide into bed as quietly as possible, something will happen. It’s also a place to keep prepared bottles with the bottle warmer. Always stick with whatever saves time & energy. I laughed about lugging the baby in when you take Genevieve into preschool. My older two are 11 1/2 months old. They were both in preschool, on opposite days, when I had my youngest. I had to drag all three in five times a week. One went four days & the other went two days. I can’t believe how much we do when our kids are young!! I get tired now just thinking about it!!

My daughter had a supply problem also. Here is the Lactation Cookie recipe she found that I made for her since it helped! Lactation Cookies Yield: 34 cookies 2 Tbsp Flaxseed meal 1/4 cup water 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour 1/4 cup Brewer’s Yeast ( for milk production) 1 tsp Salt 1 tsp Baking Soda 9 Fenugreek capsules (empty capsules & discard) 1/2 cup Butter, softened 1/2 cup Coconut oil, softened 3/4 cup Sugar 3/4 cup Brown sugar 2 Large Eggs 1 tsp Vanilla Extract 3 cups Large Oats 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Preheat oven to 375 F Mix Flaxseed meal and water; set aside. Stir together the flour, brewers yeast, salt, baking soda and Fenugreek, set aside. Blend butter, coconut oil and both sugars well. Blend in eggs. Stir in flaxseed mixture and vanilla, mix well. Add dry mixture, mix until just combined. Stir in oats and chocolate chips. Scoop 2 Tbsp of dough, and place 1 to 2 inches apart on a silicone or parchment paper lined baking sheet. Bake for 9 to 10 minutes, until the dough is matte on top. Once cooled, individually wrap cookies in plastic wrap and place them in a container in the freezer. Eat two cookies the first day and one cookie each day afterwards. Just unwrap and nuke it in the microwave for 30 seconds, Enjoy! P.S. we did not use that last bit of the recipe, I just placed the cookies in a container that my daughter keep in the fridge. No waste of all that plastic wrap and no nuking. 😉

I’m 41, not a mom, never been pregnant but I love these kinds of videos for some reason! Also love supporting Jessica! 💛 I’m curious why a lot of these products are purchased prior to having the baby if they often depend on baby preference (types of bottles, enjoyment of swing, etc.). I legit feel like I should open a baby gear rental store so that new parents can rent these types of items to try them out and see what they need/like prior to purchasing them. I bet it would save new parents a ton of money!

Building my registry now, I know for us a big part is having something on hand since we are first time parents. We have a bottle option, a pacifier option, etc. We have no idea if we will use them, how, or to what extent, and I expect baby to not accept everything we got, but if we are ready to introduce a pacifier I’ve got one I know is safe and a good starting point. I know I’ll be sleep deprived and exhausted and mind numb, I’m not going to research what kind of pacifier to try first then, I’m just going to buy 20 and shove them at baby at that point 😅

I have 3 children and my first and second are 7 years apart so I ended up buying brand new all over again, but was able to use almost everything over again for the second to third child due to only being 2 years apart! It is so hard to determine how much stuff when it’s ur first cuz of course y want to try everything as well…… another great thing is when u and ur siblings are having babies around same time within a few years you can swap out on the newborn things like swings, bassinets, etc….. my sister and I did this and we only bought 1 swing, 1 bassinet, etc.. between 4 children!!

mamaroo was worth it for our baby. He at least spends an hour on it everyday and he is 6 months old. Consistency is the key. Also, the bassinet is very important because your child will let you know what he/she prefers. We also have the doona and I personally do not like it. It is too heavy and my wife would not be able to use it without me. We are about to get rid of it. For the white noise machine, we have a google nest and we just use that and it works wonders. No need to spend extra money. I would definitely look into swaddles without it, we would have gone crazy. regardless of what you purchase, it will still be tough. Stick to a schedule if you can, even when you feel it is not working. Trust me they will learn.

I’m a mom of 5 and my daughter is 18 weeks pregnant (young, single mom) and I’m amazed at how expensive baby items are now! I’m still enjoying watching but would love recommendations from others for the “must haves” that aren’t too expensive. We will be buying used or borrow where we can!

Once upon a child has an amazing selection of gently used items. You really just need clothes, diapers and a bassinet. I’m pregnant with my 4th and I’m a minimalist. I baby wear a lot more than I use a stroller so I didn’t spend much on a stroller. Babies don’t need much.

It’s fun to watch these and all but I agree with buying used where you can - also all this stuff is cool but honestly a lot of it is so excessive. I mostly only remember using a crib, stroller, car seat and diapers! Insurance paid for my breast pump, that’s something to check as well!

I have a 6-month old and the two best investments we made were renting the Snoo and buying the Doona. Almost every morning when I drop off baby at daycare I have another parent say they wish they got it. Our biggest mistake was buying numerous varieties of bottles and pacifiers and only ended up using one kind of each.

The Halo bassinets was incredibly useful for me after a c section! It’s harder to get out of bed and also pick up the baby so the swivel on it was so convenient.

It’s the best, remember she didn’t use it not because it was not working or it was bad but because she didn’t need a lot of the features meaning it’s a great basinet. 100%

I followed you initially because I was pregnant with my first (she’s now 3) and needed ideas of what to buy and pack in my hospital bag! And now I’m pregnant with my second one too!

We literally put our wipes by the heat vent lol. We bought a really nice packnplay to use for the baby to sleep in our room. It works sooo well at night for changing too bc it has the little changing spot at the one side on top And a canopy that comes over half the top so if you want to keep the lights on before you go to bed it doesn’t bother the baby!!!! Then once baby moves into an actual bed you can still use it to travel with bc it packs up easily!!!!!

I’m a little behind. I’m just now watching this video. When you were talking about being torn on getting a bottle warmer and a wipe warmer. I had a bottle warmer and never used it because we had the Baby’s Brew travel bottle warmer. It is AMAZING! You can use it for water for formula or breast milk! So no matter if you breastfeed or not you will be able to use it! You can travel with it and it keeps your milk or water at whatever temperature you choose until you use it. Seriously incredible!!

Regarding the Duna and the option to attach car seats to your stroller frames-I think its important to remember the recommended time limits for babies under 5 month ( before they can hold their necks by themselves). The maximum is 2 hours a day and every 45mins-1hour to remove the baby from the seat to check they don't have any obstructions from throwing up. If the baby has been in a seat for lets say 2 hours its possible that all of that can be stuck in the airways blocking oxygen. Thats probably why babies sleep a lot in car seats- due to lack of oxygen! Also, See information on SIDS

I have the doona and it has hands down been the best thing on the planet. We have taken it on planes, restaurants, the beach, and parks. I use it everyday all day. It is awesome. I am going to be so sad when she outgrows it. Also you really don't need 2 bases. The base is super easy to switch cars so we just move it when we need to. You can also use it with no base with the car seatbelt which was great when we were traveling ,we didnt need to bring the base. Some people complain it is heavy but youre not really carrying it around too long. usually a few seconds while you unload and load them into the car.

For all three of my formula fed babies, I never used a bottle warmer. Just have a thermos of hot water available 24/7 and add an ounce of hot water to the regular temp water then mix in formula. Done. Less clutter, cheaper, eco friendly.
