It needs to be noted that there are two sets of haters, those that hate ev’s and those that hate Elon, who this week has attempted to stoke the troubles in the UK by stating that we’re heading for civil war. So great car, I’m sure, but no thanks, unless he does one. Not that I could afford one anyway.

Owned a 2019 Model 3 for 80,000 miles. Sold it to my nephew before moving to Portugal. Searching for a good deal on a used 2022 Model 3 or perhaps buy the new revised one. One thing everyone should know - buying a used Tesla Model 3 or Y is the BEST value for money. These cars are bulletproof, from 2019 and onward and espeically after sometime in 2021 when the heat pump arrived. Keep in mind Teslas (any EV) don't have thousands of moving parts that need lubrication or service. No oil changes. No water pumps, no timing belts, no transmission at all. It's really just that simple.

I also purchased a 2022 used Model 3. With the federal $4,000 rebate, I paid 1$18,900 for it before tax and license. The car had 77,324 miles on it, but it was in immaculate shape except for the wheels. I love the car and it has a real-world range of around 225 -240 miles. Because it has 19" wheels, I lose about 15 -20 miles of range. So far the car has been amazing; easily the best car I have ever owned. I calculated that if I drive it approximately 25,000 miles, it will have paid for itself in gas savings in comparison to my Toyota Tacoma 4-Wheel Drive truck. Recurrent rates the battery capacity as 95% of its original capacity. It charges to 254 miles, and originally it charged to 263 miles with 19" wheels. But it doesn't get that range. So it's been a brilliant purchase. I calculated that my ROI on the purchase is over 8% in actual savings and that 8% is not taxed, so it's more like an 11% ROI.

Great review. Like many, 4.5 years ago when the government announced 0% BIK on ev's for company car drivers, I opted for a Tesla Long Range Dual Motor. It was a USA built car and on that, i'd happily concede the build quality wasn't the best (never rattled or failed me, just the detail) Now on my second Model 3 dual motor, the fact its a china build has changed the game, my wife now also has a standard range Model Y which is a phenomenal car. In fact we took it to Cornwall (620 mile round trip) due to its practicality this year, its shorter range was no inconvenience at all. Theres a LOT of hate out there for Tesla but I am pleased you enjoyed it. Like you I will always be a petrolhead (911 Turbo S will always be my dream car) but genuinely I really enjoy my Tesla and the dual motors and 4.2 seconds to 60 never bores me. Oh, and I achieved 313 miles all motorway for a business meeting in February and arrived home with 9% battery, so my claimed range really isn't far off at all, never once worried about it and now I don't even pay attention to it! Great review, subscribed!

Great video. After my previous car was declared a total loss, I had to get a new car, and I was also skeptical, but once I sat in one and test drove it, I was sold pretty quickly. Tesla has really improved most of the things that needed improving, and for the price, you’d be hard pressed to find any other car, ICE or EV, that matches the features, sportiness, and practicality of the new Model 3. FWIW, I’m in the U.S., where the price was discounted by $7,500 for the lease, and was effectively leasing a $32,500 vehicle, and next year I’ll get a $3k rebate from the state I live in, making the cost of this insanely low. I’ve now owned it for 4 months, same trim as the one you drove, and it has been fantastic. I have added a 3rd party unit for CarPlay / AA, and that unit also shows me critical info right in front of me, including blind spot warning, speed, range, etc.

It's literally the best car ive ever driven and it's also the safest cars ever tested by NHTSA, NCAP, and ANCAP. Once you really learn all the features your mind is blown. Dog mode/keep mode for instance can save a child or pets life. Sentry mode uses 8 caneras around the car to record movement, viewable from your phone! I have owned a Tesla Model 3 for 8 months and agree with everything Joel says - it is not him being nice to Tesla because they have given him a car for a week and he feels obliged to be positive he is simply telling it honestly. Didnt see anything about the sat nav which is a big positive because whilst giving directions it also directs you to superchargers before you run out of charge without the driver having to do anything extra. Also provided you can charge at home at 7p per KWH I can confirm it costs 2p per mile to run.

@@barr96 the Chinese arrived years ago, MG4 came out in 2022, but none of them are competing on the overall package that Tesla offers. Even if you ignore the supercharging network, the MG4 does not have matrix LEDs, is much smaller, no where near as efficient, the screen and software is awful, no leather seats, no ventilated seats, the app is unreliable, so many 12v issues, people are having warranty issues where MG refuses to take the car back even if its a lemon unless you take them to court etc. BYD is the closest.. but last I saw, their model 3 competitor starts at £63k and not the £39k price the model 3 is. Tesla super chargers are between £0.22 /kWh off peak and £0.33 on peak. Tesla vehicles get access to all of the chargers, and non teslas get access to some V3 and supposedly all v4 chargers, but pay around £0.50 unless they pay £10/mo membership. Tesla do not currently support plug and charge for those other EVs so you still have to faff about and you don't get the advantage of simply plugging the car in and it charging within seconds. Other EVs take up to 2 minutes before they even start charging.

You haven't tried an Ioniq 5 with HUD, 360 degree cameras, ultra fast charging, V2L etc etc. I own one and I'm trying to find a reason to move to the new Model 3 but can't. Not having a HUD option is ridiculous as are the indicator buttons on the steering wheel. The only thing in favour of the Model 3 is the infotainment system but that's not enough to justify moving from my Ioniq 5 to the new Mode.
@dojohansen123
@dojohansen123 2 ай бұрын
@@rickz7461 The only thing? Haha, you are more than a little bit delusional. The engineering on the Tesla is far ahead of the Hyundai in many respects, especially the energy management system with the ingenious OctoValve. The amount of tubing involved in the Ioniq's energy management is simply ridiculous, since it has two different cooling systems and no "hub" to exchange heat between any and all parts that can either supply or receive heat or both. Also the custom electronics in the Tesla, where Hyundai is much more conservative and uses much more industry-standard (read: previous millenium) solutions. And despite Ionity, there is little doubt that a road trip through Europe is simpler in a Tesla, at least until all of the superchargers are opened to everyone. I can literally drive to any supercharger on the continent and plug in, and it just works, with charging and payment both taken care of. Also, the Ioniq 5 is significantly more expensive, has much less power, and is not quite as efficient as Model 3 at highway speeds. Even so, I would agree that the Ioniq 5 is an alternative to seriously consider for many. It may have an edge on comfort and practicality, and maybe also the mechanical engineering. I don't know enough about the differences between the standard 5 and the 5 N to judge this, but the latter (more expensive again, but you do get a lot for that extra money so for those who can afford it..) certainly made the Model 3 Performance seem like a toy by comparison when Misha took it around the 'ring..! Search "misha model 3" and "misha 5n" here on youtube if you want to see the night-and-day difference... if not, suffice to say the Tesla's brakes gave in after a quarter of a lap, while he took the 5N on a second lap just to show it didn't break a sweat... Without a doubt the indicator buttons on the Highland (new Model 3 version) are pretty useless for Europeans, who drive in roundabouts. But there is a simple third-party solution. A driving school here in Norway uses a Highland, but installed "s3xy buttons" set up to work as indicators on the back side of the wheel. The biggest problems, they say, with the original buttons is actually not that they are on the wheel, but that they are capacitive, and placed next to each other, both on the left side of the wheel! By adding buttons at the back side of the wheel, left indicator on the left side and right indicator on the right side, it works so well that they say most of their students, despite being used to stalks when coming to them, actually prefer the buttons to a stalk. In any case, a third party stalk can also be mounted. @@rickz7461 Don't forget - the SuperCharger network. Nothing matches. It's the main reason I won't buy any other EV no matter how good it is. I hope other charger networks can catch up because I sold my Tesla 3 before moving to Portugal and given Musk's involvement in politics and other stupid things he says primed me to use my substantial number of shares of Tesla stock to buy a competitor's EV. I don't expect any make, including the Chinese, to ever catch up to Tesla - but maybe they will be good enough. Note also, the single characteristic that really illustrates the superior engineering of Teslas is how much room they have inside and how the cars have good-sized frunks/froots. The other makes often simply convert an ICE car to an EV and fill the engine space with all the EV hardware. The effeciency of DESIGN is as impressive as the effeciency of PERFORMANCE. Still don't like Elon.

As fast and capable as the Teslas are, they just aren’t rewarding when pushing on as they are too quiet and easy to drive. As a tool though, as a device for getting around with my family for bugger all cost, in comfort with a fantastic hifi and tonnes of storage (esp in the model Y) they are amazing. I don’t think I could go back. 10,000 miles last year cost me about 200 quid! If you can charge at home or at work reliably, then there really aren't many reasons. not to go for a Tesla unless you're so young you can't insure one like me. Thankfully my insurance is coming down now and I am hoping to buy one next month. If you cannot charge at home or work, then don't bother. The cost per mile will be similar or 2x the cost of diesel if you only use public charging. For me, I'll be able to enjoy instant heating and AC in the winter, having the car be warm when I wake up, and it will cost me £4 to drive to Manchester and back since I can get to my friends house in central Manchester from Bournemouth without stopping, and they have a charger at their house since they have a Tesla. They've also softened the ride suspension so its much nicer now to drive around town and also improved a lot the quiet cabin. Even the 2022 Model Y has harder suspension and noisier cabin! Tesla makes small improvements all the time. Quite impressive!

*This is what pisses me off about the Tesla haters:* If had stood on my driveway, with my friends, and said; My new car has 500HP, O-60 in 3.6s but does 110mpg and is silent. It doesn’t need services and has more interior space than the X5 it replaced …. They would all be agast. Impressed beyond belief… But when I say it’s a Tesla, they all sneer and get very grumpy! Petulant child-like. “Elon should shut his bloody mouth” “That thing will catch fire” “Doesn’t he support Trump?” “Car parks can’t stand the weight” “It depreciates fast” “Takes hours to charge” “You’ll need new batteries in two years and they cost £30K” “You can’t cross Europe in it” Utter imbeciles…

This is what baffles me as well. If you'd told anyone in 2010 that we'd have a car that goes from 0-100 in the same range that hypercars used to be in (sub 3 second), is totally silent, has the practicality of a large sedan, and space in the front for bags, and comes with actual working fast infotainment, everyone would've declared you insane. And now that we have them, all people can ask is "so, how far will you get", or "do you still have a diesel for the vacation trips?". No muppets, these cars charge within half a hour on a great charging network, I charge at home, so I never waste time a gas stations, and I get to drive a car that is 1. fast, 2. superbly in the software department, 3. gets regular updates that actually add functions, 4. doesn't cause lung cancer.

I think people are seeing the end of what they have known all their lives. EVs, and Teslas in particular, are not cheap. They will get cheaper every year. Once they are cheap, attitudes will change rapidly in my opinion. For now, a lot of people are scared and scared people either cry or shout.

Just a comment the standard 18" wheels give the greatest range
@noyb-yb
@noyb-yb 3 ай бұрын
yes agreed and 18-inch wheels also have better ride quality than 19 and 20 inch options as well as are the cheapest. Given it's a daily-driver/transport car the standard 18 inch wheels are overall best, since RWD Model-3 is not a sports car after all. Also, to replace these tyres in future, the replacement rubber for 18 inch wheels will cost less than 19/20 inch tyres.

For the Readers; If you are as 'tossed' as "Joel' of the lack of indicator stalks; you can buy one for a DIY project. And there are a 'flock' of dandy aftermarket items { a HUD for example} if you wish to customize the Tesla. The Tesla has the LARGEST aftermarket products segment of any EV currently on the roads .

People complaining about the 'official range' never beeing correct in EV's seem to forget the 'official' stated WLTP mpg/fuel consumption in the cars we know, also are never really true. Also, if Tesla doesn't bring out the Solid State battery out fast enough, they might kill the EV market. So release the tech and let's start comparing their range to diesels. Not only do they charge faster, they are lighter, more durable and they can store at least 4-5 times more capacity compared to the 'liquid' batteries (meant for walkmans and remote controllers 😄). Be honest, if this playstation on wheels had a 1000+ mile range, there would not even be a discussion, because they are fun and fast.

Range is not a problem - cost is. Even an EV with 200 mile range can keep up with an ICE. The weak link is the human bladder. No viable solid state batteries on the horizon and none from Tesla.Their battery is the very heat efficient 4680 tabless design in LiFePo and NCA chemistries. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp28gndveLKqi80

All thats going to happen with the lack of indicator stalks is people won't signal. In the USA where roundabouts are rare, I can see why it works, but not in the rest of the world. As for EVs, I love mine, not a Tesla, and I very much enjoy that my Lexus still has lots of buttons and controls within easy reach.
@nippynorman
@nippynorman 2 ай бұрын
Its like changing from a Ford to a Toyota - you have to train yourself to use the other stalk. After a week or so it becomes muscle memory and you don't think about it. Buttons are exactly the same. What is hard, is taking out the TVR Griff occasionally and trying to indicate by pressing the steering wheel!

Good review , only question is what was the cost to super charge ? as you said it was £0.07p kw at home but at the Tesla super charger how much would that cost to charge and drive 250 miles ?
@Steinegal
@Steinegal 3 ай бұрын
Price varies from station to station and also during peak hours. Some quick checks suggest that it is between £0.30 and £0.50/kWh in England at the Superchargers. Assuming you start with a full battery you would probably not have to charge at all, but say you are 50miles short then you charge the amount required to get home assuming really bad conditions in the RWD you should still be doing about 4.5miles per kWh so you would need to charge 12kWh to have a little buffer so £6 at the Superchargers plus £4.5 for the home charging total cost at £0.018 per Mile. Now going further would increase the cost of that trip, but if you do most of your driving and charging at home it will maintain a relatively low average cost per mile.
