Hello Amigag if I may ask what is pcp?
@amigangАй бұрын
@@Kobbzi89 There popular in the UK, its Personal Contract Purchase, basically you pay say £300 a month and the cars your for 2 years, at the end of 2 years, you have the option of buying out what's owed on the Car + little bit of interest, to keep the car (very few do this), give the car back to simple just end the contract. Or carry on paying and get another new Car. So if you can find £300 a month you can effectly have a new Car every 2 years. I dont do it because if you suddenly cant find that money, then they take the car a away and your left with nothing and usually they can charge you for going over mileage limit, so at the end of two years you might have a nasty surprise. But it means here in the UK, after two years, second hand market gets flooded with these type of cars and usually you find a lot of deals.

@@longlivetheclash Then you're numb. We just replaced our previous 3 with the new LR AWD Highland. It's the most radical difference I've ever experienced in a car. 360° insulated glass (every sheet of glass in the car is now double pane). The doors now have stabilizing tongues for ridigity - open the door and look at the tongue and slot at the bottom of the door - you can even feel the rigidity when shutting the doors). The FSD suspension (which stands for Frequency Selective Dampening) is one of the best suspensions I've felt in any car by ANY manufacturer. The soundproofing throughout makes the car 9 db quieter in the cabin (tested). The center screen is now larger and brighter. You must not have been in a Highland if you didn't notice many difference. I drive a 2023 Model 3 Long Range built in Shanghai end August ‘23. I live in regional city on the border of NSW and Victoria, Australia, charge off solar at home, and travelled regionally 1,550km return to Loxton SA to see family. I charged off solar at their place as well, and all up the trip cost $AU62 in charging fees when travelling between solar chargers. The car is comfortable, has double glazed front passenger as well as driver windows, not rear windows like the 2024 model 3 has. Build quality is superb, and I bought the ‘23 model because I do like the stalks, but can see when you’re used to the wheel controls they’re fine. It is the best car I’ve ever owned, a joy to drive and a car I plan to keep for many years. Thanks for a great comparative review, like you, I think the differences between Gen 2 and Gen 3 are mainly cosmetic. Mine was one of the last Gen 2’s built in Shanghai and the suspension is remarkably comfortable enough. The build quality as stated, is excellent, and actually considerably better than the last mid-sized European SUV I owned. I will never own another petrol car.

Cost was a little under $AU74,000 to put it on the road here. Not ‘cheap’, but good value for money for the car I got. I believe, from contact with friends and family in the UK, the M3 LR supplied here has slightly more battery than the LR sold in the UK. That may or may not be correct. In my regional setting the Long Range version made great sense, distances in Australia merit the range.

It makes the car a nice airy space and a very pleasant space to be.

Hi Paul, thanks for this comparison review of gen 1 v gen 3. One aspect you didn’t cover was the sound system. I love music when I drive, and I appreciate a good sound system. I think in gen 1 SR you got a reduced sound system. And this might be the same with gen 3. When you showed the boot space, your gen 1 has a subwoofer on the right, which is why there is no cubby there, but your new SR has a cubby on both sides of the boot, perhaps because the subwoofer is omitted. It would be interesting to explore the difference in the sound system. I know this seems a bit petty, but a big advantage of an EV is the possibility of much better sound quality.
@PaulsViewsReviews5 ай бұрын
Fair point - there was definitely a comparison opportunity missed there! The new car’s sound system is good but I have to admit that it is inferior to the old LR. It’s just not as immersive due to the drop in speaker numbers. The gen 3 LR has an upgraded system over the old LR, now including two subs; I’ve not heard out but I’m confident it’ll be awesome! There’s a good sound review of my car here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npabmX5jpbqHh9ksi=AMVf3oAY_IZcIzyY

At some point in 2021, Tesla started adding heat pumps to the model 3, a huge bonus in cold climates. The 2022s got the Ryzen chip, which improved interactions with the control screen, and the RWD version got LFP batteries (safer and higher cycle life, but slower charging). The big, not good change in 2023 was the removal the ultrasonic parking sensors. As for wind/road noise in the older models, there are cheap modifications you can do to greatly minimize it, look it up!

All good to know - thanks for sharing.

The Gen 2 (with black vs chrome trim and updated console etc) has the heat pump. First deliveries in late 2020. Also has laminated front side windows for better noise insulation (Highland also has on rear windows (and maybe roof??) as well. Quick impression of the sound system of the SR vs LR Highland is that the LR is way better , but need to do a more thorough listen when I get a chance. Otherwise I agree that there's not a lot of advantage to the LR unless you have a lead foot! 🙂 Practical driving range is much the same comparing a SR with LFP battery at 100% charge vs the NMC battery LR at (recommended) 80% charge.

Very good review, articulate and informative on details no other reviewer has shown. I had a Model S from new 5 years ago, was a great car but too big so traded ‘down’ to a second gen 3. Have a 2nd gen now standard range. Love it. Over 280 miles in summer, LFP charge to 100% each time. Has over 2 years developed a few ‘Tesla rattles’ which is the only thing I don’t like. I can buy it in 10 months on the PCP for £18k. Will have 25k miles on it. Did consider trading in for a Highland M3P but they are ripping us off on the price and Tesla offered me less on trade in than We Buy Any Car. WTF Tesla! I told them no chance I’ll keep this one instead. Tesla will need to drop prices to keep selling next year. I’m a huge Tesla advocate but with their low trade in prices and inflated new prices (new M3P is cheaper in Ireland- RHD- import tax same in Ireland- VAT is 25%- so go figure that one) I’m struggling to continue to advise people to buy a new Tesla. Pick up a 2.5 year old gen 2 for 22k

Thanks for the feedback and sharing your story. My friend had a similar experience recently, with regards Tesla trade-in values - disappointing to hear. The new M3P looks very nice but it isn’t worth £20k more than the SR and definitely not £10k more than the already rapid LR. I can’t see them shorting too many of those in the UK. How are you finding the indicators on roundabouts? I've heard it's a real pain.
@PaulsViewsReviews3 ай бұрын
I’ve gotten used to using the button rather than a stalk for most occasions. I even change the radio channel in my wife’s car now when I want to turn, rather than try and find a stalk! Roundabouts do require you to pay a bit more attention with your hand placement, and I’ve not always got it right, but I’ve got used to the left indicator being slightly closer to the edge of the wheel than the right so I don’t have to look at the wheel anymore, which is progress!

Hi was wondering what made you go for the RWD this time around? Trying to decide if the LR is worth an extra £100 a month on a lease.
@PaulsViewsReviews5 ай бұрын
Honestly, I didn’t have any choice; my company car list changed. I needed to slow down a bit anyway, so it’s advantageous in that sense, but I do miss the brutal acceleration of the long range sometimes when I’m just that way out on a quiet road. I’d suggest you drive them both and see how you feel, but you’ll be happy with either, I imagine. The question will be does the difference warrant £1.200 a year?
@BMH196517 күн бұрын
I liked the video - better than most reviewers...but @21:35 what makes you state that it is quieter? Quieter than what? My 2017 Audi A4 is quieter than a new Tesla 3 when cruising. I often see model 3 and Y bouncing along the road over rough surfaces and I barely notice the same bumps (inside dB level is between 61 and 65 at motorway speed - the road surface makes a huge difference). And with over 750 mile average range, I really don't see the advantage of an EV. Ps. there is no environmentally-friendly way to decommission an EV battery - and making an EV battery is terrible for the world environment.
@PaulsViewsReviews15 күн бұрын
Hi - and thanks for the feedback. At that point when I talk about the quieter aspect of the Tesla, it is the context of the sensorial experience. There’s no engine sound and that takes some getting used to. I miss the sound of a V6, which a few of my previous cars have benefitted from. The sound deadening in the Tesla is far from perfect. It’s improved on the new models, but not a patch on my previous cars (Q7, 5-series, A6 - lots of German cars, basically). The ride is ok - again, better in the newer car. My Q7 had air suspension, which was definitely way better than the Tesla’s springs, but it’s comparable to most other cars I’ve driven or owned. The environmental discussion around EVs is an interesting one, and there are lots of elements to take into account, but we do need a more sustainable form of electricity storage for the future, without a doubt. Thanks again for commenting.

What’s your opinion on the sound system vs the gen1 long range which would’ve had more speakers?
@PaulsViewsReviews7 ай бұрын
Interesting question, as I had that very concern. As it happens, the new system does not sound like a compromise at all. There is still a subwoofer taking the deep elements and the rest of the speaker more handle a fully immersive sound. I’ve been quite happy - and I like quality music.

What real world range are you getting out of the Highland? Good video!
@PaulsViewsReviews7 ай бұрын
Tesla quote 316 miles but, having fully charged the car a couple of times now, it thinks 100% = 270 miles, so about 85% of the claimed. Not too bad, as the old Long Range was 300 miles from a full charge.

Hi. We have more than our fair share of roundabouts in the UK, too, and it does take some getting used to, but you definitely DO get used to it. The left turn button is just a little closer to the outside and that helps me choose the correct button without looking.

I'm loving the looks of the new 3 but concerned about the rear space. We have a toddler and occasionally have his grandparents travel with us. Do you reckon a compact carseat in the middle and 2 (relatively small) adults on either side would be a comfortable situation? Or should i be pragmatic and go with the Y (even though i find the Y's overall profile just a little bit ugly 😉)?
@gaurav1708897 ай бұрын
I'm not so worried about the cargo space; seems more than enough in depth, and with the underfloor storage and the frunk
@PaulsViewsReviews7 ай бұрын
Hi. I was fairly sure the Model Y and the Model 3 use the same rear bench and, therefore, are the same width. I've just Googled it, read a few articles and that is indeed the case, so there is no advantage of one over the other in this regard. I'd suggest you just go and try one and have a go. You'll find out quickly if it will work for you, for the few occasions you'll need that set up. Incidentally, I would be more inclined, thinking of when our kids were young and we did similar configurations, to put the child on one side and the adults in the other two seats. The person in the middle is not going to be comfortable on a long ride but it should be fine for a short run.
@gaurav1708897 ай бұрын
I did see both in person, and mid section of the Model Y seemed slightly wider (although I didn't have the carseat or the passengers to test with then). It could just be how the seats are shaped. I'll go down to the store again! Anyway, thanks for the great video
@gaurav1708897 ай бұрын
You're right! Saw some measurements; 3 and Y have the exact same rear bench width! Looks like the bench contours have been changed in the new 3 to allow more space for outboard passengers at the expense of the middle seat. Y Juniper will likely do the same!

I don't need a long range. I think because most YT videos have the long range most people tend to think they need a long range, but in reality they dont. I can get a brand new Model 3 SR from tesla on a 24 month lease deal right now for £382 per month with 20,000 mile per year limit. If I didnt need the extra 10k miles it would be £322 per month. Deposit is 6 months but you can do any from 1 to 24. I think this is a damn good deal. As I look around at other manufacturer lease deals there isnt really anything at this standard of car within that price range. A general PCP deal works out around £470-£520 per month and restricted to 8k miles per year. So you keep it three years and then have a 18k balloon payment. And then you;re thinking Fk, now I need another loan over three years for the 18k and will have about 6k interest on top of that - AND do I want to invest so heavily ion a three year old car Seems to me lease is the way to go and this one seems like its one of the best lease deals around. I think in general Im done with PCP deals. I never let them run their course so never build up any equity. Just seems like paying more for no benefit.
@PaulsViewsReviews2 ай бұрын
That is a good deal - and I’m perfectly happy with my standard range model, incidentally. Get it done! While mine is a company car, so I didn’t have to make the lease/PCP comparison this time around, the last car I ‘bought’ before I opted back into the company car scheme was a leased BMW 520d. It was SO much cheaper to lease over PCP, I had no interest in owning it anyway and, interestingly, my lease coincided with Covid so my mileage was super low and, as a result, I was actually able to hand it back a year early at no cost to myself. Not sure I’d have been able to do this on a PCP.

@PaulsViewsReviews7 ай бұрын
I don't think you can go far wrong with a 2 year old M3 and the Performance is going to be lots of fun. However, while the power is nauseatingly good fun, you won't use it too much other than to impress your friends/family/racers at traffic lights. I would genuinely encourage you to test drive a RWD version of the new one, as you may realise that it is quick enough where you need it most - the mid range - but could be within reach now, giving you the shape you prefer. Just a thought but I'm sure you'll love whichever you choose!

Appreciate the quick reply Paul. I did recently test the new M3 standard range but didn’t really make my eyes light up from a performance perspective, Tesla don’t seem to have any dual motors to try. Since then I’ve driven a 2022 gen 2 M3P and was more impressed. Guess I prefer the slightly more harsher drive and the performance over the more refined and laid back new standard range. 😅

I'm considering a Tesla for the first time, having had other EVs, but I'm wondering if Tesla owners that get cold hands and have to wear gloves in the winter find it inconvenient having to take them off to perform essential functions like Reversing!
@PaulsViewsReviews2 ай бұрын
I like that question! The good news is that the steering wheel is heated (as standard on all models) and so your hands ought to be fine. Secondly, you can heat the car up remotely in advance using the Tesla app to make sure it’s nice and toasty in there. Lastly, there are alternative ways to choose the drive mode using the buttons behind the rear view mirror - I have not tried them with gloves but I believe they will work.
@drigans20652 ай бұрын
@@PaulsViewsReviews Thanks. If that doesn't work, I suppose I could always get mittens! I'm only judging this by my winter usage of a Leaf Gen 1 with no heating on wearing gloves to get extra range... I test drove a Kia Niro last weekend and unfortunately it was too noisy, which was a real shame so am a bit jumpy about the noise issue since you mentioned it on the v1 Model 3. Good vid BTW.
