I 'd been looking for a 986 Boxster S for a long time now but living in the middle of nowhere in Scotland anything of decent value was always a million miles away or sold way too fast . Anyway I recently picked up a 2004 S on 92k that had been stood for around 7 months and had only done 200 miles since the last mot 18 months ago . The car was around a mile from me when I saw the advert on Face book just as it came up for sale . It has masses of paper work for parts replaced, suspension all round etc..etc.., 2 keys , a decent car cover and just needs a couple of tyres and a bit of paint on a door where a buffer has gone through the paint at one time .Oh and no oil leaks or noises on start up . Its Seal Grey with a Boxster Red interior and I love it .... The price ? well it was delivered the next morning to me and I handed over my £1500 ! I 've had some bargains in my time but this car's up their for sure . I've nearly done going through it and have found nothing needed apart from a couple of tyres . It seems the unlucky seller had parted with it due to not being able to insure it anymore . I must say I "almost " feel guilty about what I paid for it . I watched your videos on your Boxster S at the time and have watched again since and they were very good and informative to say the least. Thanks Joel...

Oh, great question, thanks for asking 😅 I'm currently saving for a 2019 Mercedes E200 full option diesel import from Germany with about 380.000km's/237k miles for 6.7k euro's, which is insane! It's newer than my main car, a C220 from 2015 and my 'project'/fun car a 2013 E200 CDI station wagon (which I got for 4k). (The reason I'm going for the newer one) LOVE how handy the huge space in the back is. So if it's not too bad (unlike the 4k car, which turned up to have a cam chain issue, which will cost 1k to fix) I might make that my main and sell my C220. I want to start learning how to take cars apart and put them back together with the 2013 E class. Worse case, it's just 4k, but I'd count is an education cost.

What your dream car changes I think dependent on what stage of your life you’re in. When I was a young lad in the 70’s it was a TR6. Much later in life it was a TVR and I did buy a Chimaera. Last week I bought a car I have coveted for a while - a 2008 Jaguar XK 150 4.2 . It’s a truly beautiful design and drives wonderfully- a “ gentleman’s express) which suits me now I am in my 60’s. Road tax is a rip off but insurance is reasonable ( it’s 3rd car in the household and is on a classic car policy with limited mileage) and on my trip home when collecting it ( about 80 miles mostly on motorway) it did 32 mpg. About 15mpg around town though. Really enjoy your videos Joel 👍.

Definitely a ticking time bomb. As Maserati (4200 Manual) owner myself all I can say is you've been lucky. Anyone can buy cars and run them for a few months. Report back when you've owned it 12 months and put it through an MOT. I just got stiffed with a totally unforeseen £4750 bill to repair the entire clutch system (on a car that cost £8k). I'm not up on Quattroporte but I believe rusty subframes are also an issue as they are with the 4200.

These cars are incredibly under valued because of that you get people buying them cheap thinking they'll be cheap to run. They are sports cars and all sports cars can be expensive to run repairs clutch are a consumable part that requires alot of work to replace. This is the same with Ferrari, astons, lambo 's and many other high end sports cars of this era. It's not a ticking time bomb if you understand exotic cars. In fact my Maserati has been the most reliable one.

My 4200 has been rock solid since day one and that included a 1,900 mile roundtrip to Tail of the Dragon and back. I semi daily it and it's never once thrown a check engine light or given me any issues that have stopped me from driving it. Love seeing the confirmation I made a great decision a few months ago to buy mine, privately, which Ben at Dadcars enjoyed in his ‘money pit?’ video of it 😂… (spoiler… it wasn’t what he thought it might be) I’ve done over 5k miles in mine now, it’s growing on me!

Don’t worry Joel about other people. She wanted to have a pop at you because she realised you had a lady in the car and she wanted to have you. With regards to an attainable car, what about a M3 E46 for you Joel

Still lovely and a lot of car for the money. Try some 'Dunlop ultimate lemon oil' (for guitar fretboards) on those sticky plastics. My 'really shouldn't do that' car would actually be another Masa but the gorgeous boomerang rear light clustered 3200.

Joel, I have to ask this again. Your car has had noisy cam variators since day one when you bought it, and over the last two months of driving the car frequently, you have made no effort to repair them. On cold start, has the variator noise gotten worse, or stayed the same? Does it occur with warm start ups? Do you wait until the oil pressure rises and silences the variators before you start driving? If/when they cause massive cam failure and destroy the engine, will you just sell it in that condition? Not trying to be negative, it is just that you seem to be the bravest and luckiest man I've ever heard of. John I.

Agreed..forget it…I can’t drive anywhere in my Porsche without people ‘interacting’ with me🙄. I’d love a Ghibli actually.

Cars like this in the UK obviously are incredibly cheap. Out here in Oz, the cheapest Quattroporte would cost you $22K for a 2004 model. A 2006 model you’re looking at around $33-46k +. In short you could not get one for less than $20k, regardless of condition, unless perhaps it was totally knackered.

Sorry to hear you had negative comments - but remember, her mind was already narrow and closed before she met you! Cars - I did the stupid things, I drive an L322 and an Aston Martin Rapide S! If I was braver I might have looked at a W12 Continental GT but the fuel consumption alone would bankrupt me.

Joel, if it makes you feel any better, I just bought a lotus and the engine blew itself up on the drive home. It needs a new engine at the cost of around £5,000. All in all, I still love the car.

My dreamcar also is Maserati Quattroporte. I own 3 cars, alfa Romeo gtv 2.0 1995, alfa Romeo 159 1.9 jtd 2005 and a Porsche cayenne 4.5 v8 NA tipronic 2006. All 3 were bargains the Porsche cost me with repairs 2000 euro, this year, the 159 also 2000 euro back in 2018 and the GTV cost me only 500 euro back in 2020. If you do your homework, use your brain got a little courage you can do it. I'm sure I'll buy the right Quattroporte very soon.

You need to try a later 4.7 Sport GT S - the box in manual is manual so you can hit the limiter and it won't downshift (except into 1st). Snappier, sharper and a tad more power....

Just fix the issue yourself. I also did it myself. It is some work, but it is doable! You can ruin the engine by not fixing it! You have much bigger chance to get broken chain tensioners. If that happens, your engine timing will be off which can lead to a broken engine.

You could lease a car for say 250 per month which will be nothing special or buy this, 5k spread over 24 months £208 per month after that you have paid it off have it 3 years and the monthly works out at £138 per month, what can you get for that kind of money, even if it does pop the has has to be work £3000 in parts alone, my opinion is drive it enjoy it and see how you come out of it when you get bored, roll on 100k mate

I’ve owned my 2006 GranSport since 2007. Like any car, maintain it, do your research and these cars are amazing. Every brand has a lemon for one reason or another. I’ve modified mine with a tune, lowered suspension, exhaust etc….let me tell you…these cars are amazing. Haters, have you ever driven one or do you just watch KZbin videos? Mine is fantastic….drive them, maintain them and don’t be cheap….they’re fantastic. I promise you, join the Maserati forum, great group of members, find a fantastic independent mechanic and you can’t go wrong. These cars are normally aspirated V8 engines meant to cruise at very high speeds on the Autobhan….but for the love of GOD…maintain…don’t be cheap and then blast a car because your cheap ass doesn’t take care of it….microphone drop.

I really fancy an L322 even just to borrow for a week, it's probably a lame choice but ive driven Ferraris and Aston Martin DB 9 and Porsche 944 , 911 gtrs and boxsters. I like the commanding road position of RR'S
