Two things about Peter Gabriel's music has always drawn me in and made me a fan. One, the signature tonal quality of his voice, which cannot be imitated. And two, the rhythmic complexity of his work, which is beguiling. I guess I should add the iconic melodies he stumbles across now and then in his storied career. But he's kept my attention for over thirty years. How can you not love his music?
@charlessomerset97543 жыл бұрын
@Peter Gabriel Thank you for your wonderful, unexpected response. I try to keep your legacy alive in my family. My daughters still beg me to play Book of Love every now and again. They are jaded, world wise teenagers, but I still catch them crying when I play it, so thank you for that and a hundred other moments like it when I listen to your music.

2024 Still listening. I started following "The Gabe" back in 1970 (Genesis - Trespass) when he was the very charismatic front man for one of the best progressive rock bands of all time, Genesis. I followed through the entire band collection of 70's albums up until shortly after The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway came out. Then, devastation, the news came out he was leaving Genesis. For awhile I wondered what would become of such a talented vocalist/composer. From the 'Solisbury Hill' album and beyond, we got the message: Peter Gabriel was here to stay and had a stellar solo career making musics we can all enjoy. Thank you Peter, I still listen to both your Genesis works AND your solo works to this very day!

If you can't find or have any kind of fun making music with your friends and bandmates, you're in the wrong field. And I love this video because you can see they are having a great time jamming out with PG - someone they have toured with and been friends with for decades now. It comes out in the music. And to have your own daughter sing with you - priceless.

@@snakemanpete55 He doesn’t mean lineup changes. He means style of music. At least I’m pretty sure. Gabriel Genesis was a progressive rock mega band with 10 minute plus epics in their catalogue and Collins Genesis was a more compact radio friendly based band, that still made a couple longer form progressive rock songs. I personally like both eras, but I began with the band when Gabriel was the front man, so I would say that that’s my favorite era of the band. Peter is one of my favorite artists ever, in terms of his solo work.

When most artists or bands are gone... they become "greatest hits". You can name on two hands the songs you'll hear on commercial radio or most movie soundtracks. Peter Gabriel will given the pop world Solsbury Hill, Sledgehammer and Big Time. The rest, like Growing Up, belong to fans. Music that was never heavily commercialized and remained in its own category. Music that will be broad and listened to for years to come - not just a few hits.
@dragonoffski45014 жыл бұрын
I agree Kevin, but I think you might have missed a couple of the 'hits' there. 'Biko' was pretty big, as Was 'Games without Frontiers' and the beautiful duet with Kate Bush 'Don't Give up' - but the lesser publicized tracks, like Here Comes the Flood, or San Jocinto, or Wallflower, or Mercy Street etc...are all ours, and for proper fans to discover as they find out just what a talented musician Peter really is, and I'm just scratching the surface :-).

That was refreshing, I wish PG would do just ONE MORE album of ALL New material it's been 18 years. To bookend his catalog of music he could name the album...END seeing how he likes one word titles and it would be fitting for his final farewell. My favorite PG albums are his first and UP. It took me many listenings to UP before it struck a cord but when it did I was mesmerized...it was so weird like turning on a switch all of a sudden "I got it" I noticed all these layers to it and the more I listened (after the revelation) the more I heard, I've never had music surprise me like that. Come on Peter just one more...Please?
