Omg!!!! Im so dang excited!!! I cant express this enough and i truly wish i could be in your personal certification classes right now! I just got your Cornerstone Collection courses and im not even through the 1st hour of your chase and catch 2.0 video and immediately once i switched to a ball and did exactly what you said, my 5 month old puppy whom i got a few days ago is bring the ball back to me to keep playing with her vs every other day and other toys that she would possess and keep from me. Also, thank you for your video on which toys to get! I didnt realize, for florida, i got all the wrong toys due to sand and slobber. I truly hope that one day i can almost be as good as you!! This is my first belgian malinois and im so in love. I got so lucky!!! I truly hope to meet you one day and thank you!!!!

If we look at any social species of animals - canines, felines, horses, birds, deer, elephants, dolphins, whales, etc - most learning happens in communal play, and occasionally play has appropriate consequences when someone breaks the rules. Mother dogs don't teach puppies rules by putting food scraps in their face every time they perform a desirable action, or take food away when doing an undesirable action, they simply feed them food. Food is not a reward, its a survival necessity to provide as a caregiver (be it a human or a mother dog). Food/treat reward-based learning is a human construct, and its holding needs ransom in a way no animals do naturally, but play is naturally occurring and fairly universal in community-based species.

Really appreciate you bringing great awareness to this pivotal portion in appropriate balanced dog training. Thank you Ivan! I've just become acquainted with you recently through Larry Krohn. I operate a dog biz in the midwest 🇺🇸 USA offering variety of services, including training. Yes ~ accurate appropriate play impacts hugely for fully rewarding and fulfilling results for both canine and human as they train and learn together. I love learning straight from the dog👍🐾 ~ this is DogGone Walking KC

I have a question that I am hoping someone can help me with. I adopted a fearful dog about a year ago. We have been making some great progress but she seems to be regressing the past couple of weeks into her old habits. It seems like either "Chase & Catch" or the "Possession Game" will help build some confidence in her. I am just unsure of which one to start with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would say chase & catch but you might want to consult a trainer. Maybe you can have one session and take it from there

There are quite a number of diabolically bad trainer’s on social media.. Who can post any old rubbish piece of content.. Would have that many views in no time at all.. who creates these nonsense algorithms. Keep up your outstanding work Ivan. Play is the most important element in our training also. It’s fundamental to producing well balanced as well as well trained dogs.

In the podcast I belive he was referencing people who conduct studies and do not show how they come to their conclusions (which have no foundation). If you want to see Ivan Balabanovs work it is all available on his website.

@@IvanBalabanov Do what you want. But you got someone to come and explain their method on a free podcast, then you refused to share your own when he asked "How do YOU do it?". That's unethical and hypocritical.

@@taistavern6785 trough competitive play you can create confidence, you can set rules and penalties for not obeying the rules, when the dog already enjoys the game. The dog will quickly pick up you are a person he can trust and play with, the dog will see you as a fellow creature with which he can spend enjoyable time with, whilst still acknowledging that you hold true to your rules and objectives.
