Omg the low porosity thing is finally the explanation to my problems! I once tried to bleach a streak into my hair, left it on twice the recommend time and it looked identical when it came out lol. I do exactly what you said squeezing the conditioner into my hair. I also comb it to get it into all the strands. I have kinda unique hair because I am mixed asian and white and my white side is Jewish with curly red hair. I also have a ton of variety in hair width. While I don't have the same hair as much of the natural hair community these videos have really helped me figure out what sort of hair I do have cause I basically don't know anyone with similar hair to mine besides my sister.

Excellent presentation -wish I had known all this in the 1950s when I was a kid , though in those days we just used a bar of soap or washing up liquid! There was no such thing as conditioner or curl cream! My hair is low porosity -it has been floating on the glass of water for 2 hours now! Thanks for explaining all this -your own hair is fabulous .

I've watched so many hair type videos that I rarely learn anything new, but I found this video to be very informative! It seemed like no matter how many videos I watched, I was always confused about my hair type and was always wondering why so many products didn't work for me. It all makes since now, and after years of guessing, I can finally say with confidence that I know what my hair type is. Thank you for this video! :D

Thanks for making this video, I am natural. My ethnicity is black and Asian. So my hair is very soft. I have damaged my hair, by just being crazy. But after watching this video, I know what my hair is about and the porosity is. I started out from damaged hair, High porosity, now it's down to medium, slight high in areas. but either way, I now understand my hair more and I love it. Thanks again.

People have always told me I had 3b/3c hair, but I was alway confused because by hair strands look more like two C’s stacked on top of each other, not a coil, or traditional curl. I finally switched over to products targeted to 2c/3a hair and it has made such a difference!

This has answered so many of my questions. THANK YOU. Right now only the crown of my hair is dry, crinkly and frizzy, while the rest of my hair is lush and healthy, so I’m really confused on what could be the problem. I believe I have Natural 2C wavy and curly/ high density hair. I can’t tell if it’s over moisturized to be hygral fatigue or Low porosity. I’m still researching and I am still learning new possible causes, however these two seem to be the closest. I’ll be saving this video to keep as a guideline

I even chopped all my hair off thinking it was damaged but nope my hair is just growing out confused lol. I just call it a type 4 and move on lol because different strands have different curl patterns. Some are tighter, some are looser, some have more definition and some don't. My hair is low porosity and protein sensitive and the strands are medium to thick so i just use that to determine what products will work for me Now I know why my hair is so stiff. Good job with this video, it is so helpful. I'm taking notes

I have high porosity hair because it grabs treatment easy but it dries out so easily. I started cutting my hair and getting keratin treatments and my curls disappeared completely. They're only starting to come back now, as the treatment is growing out. LOC method works wonders for my hair. Co-wash is the best investment! Lord Jesus Christ is coming back everyone, please don’t worship celebrities and entertainment, focus on Him alone. I promise there’s more to life than money, partying, homosexuality and music. Hell is real, repent from sinning confess your sins and ask God to forgive you, I know He will if you’re sincere. Hell is very hot, people please repent! In the mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏💪✝💜❤✝! Idolatry such as, Islam, Catholicism, Sangomaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Racism, Santa Clausism, Confucianism, New Age, Science, Evolution, halloweenism, Harry Potterism, Politics, Donald Trumpism, Easter Bunnyism and other religions/faiths that are outside Biblical Christianity lead to hell! Don’t believe them, believe the Almighty God the Father of Lord Jesus Christ, who begot Him. Our Creator, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is mighty, He doesn’t need a woman to beget a son, He is God. I choose to put my faith in a God who can do anything and everything, a God who has unlimited and infinite power to beget! So, it’s time to confess that Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord and to believe that He died and rose from the grave after three days and you shall be saved if you only obey Him by praying, worshipping, praising, reading the Bible and living holy and righteously according to the Bible. You have to endure until the end, carry your cross daily and build your relationship with God by following Lord Jesus daily until the end. You must never renounce your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, there’s hell awaiting those who reject/deny Lord Jesus Christ and those who continue living sinfully, even the Christians who don’t want to repent will face the same fate, so please repent beloved people, in Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty and precious Name, Amen.

Hi Iyda, Thanks for this video ! I found it covered even more details than I would have thought I needed to know in order to treat it well. Lots of great information! A great presentation! Clear annunciation with even tone means the WORLDS to listeners like myself. You not only shared how to find out what pattern/texture and type of hair we have, but I also learned that my full head may not all share the same type, texture or pattern or density. (Im sure I missed something here!) I’m with @LiNdA MB here. A little complicated it’s true. ! I love how you explained a lot about products and who should use them , why and how What a bonus!(I’m still not sure what a pineapple is? An African American ponytail ? LoL) I watched it a few times to pick up all you shared and made precise notes.That being said Iyda, for the amount of information you DID share you did not speak to the letters that go along with curl patterns. I am absolutely lost as to what the letters represent and how to conclude what letter best suits me I tried to figure it out looking at the chart, but all I could really see is they were all curly. Im sure my number is a 2 with some 3’s in there, but not a clue what letter should follow. Absolute opposite amount of info regarding the letters.LOL Im sure its common sense and does not require coverage. It’s just not common to me. Yet. I do thank you so much for all you did share though. I learned a LOT!

I definitely have low porosity, course hair & can tell that the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Leave-in Milk is waaaayyyyy too thick as a first layer for my hair, but I keep using it just so it can not be wasted (it's taking forever though & I'm not even half way through the bottle, it lasts so long cuz it's so thick and def not a milk) Some days after washing, I just don't fully wash out my conditioner & it seems way better for when I layer my gel (Miss Jessie's Coily Custard - fave thing ever) But I've always done oil last, either as a regular oil or a spray version (keratin or coconut) I can't help but only style when fully wet though, because it's easier to run my fingers through my hair & I use the prayer hands method always I like minimal shrinkage so I prefer length over volume & if I want volume, I just shake my fingers through my hair a little to lift the roots & the air drying will expand it regardless :) I think I have 3b ish My hair looks like I curled it with a Sharpie marker & it's very dense

Alls I can say is I loathe my 4a, 4c hair! I'm still trying to figure out what works? I started my natural hair journey in 2009. All was going great as I had a beautician taking care of it. It had gotten so long and healthy until I transitioned and was unable to find a natural hair stylist in my area. Out of frustration I allowed a novice to merely braid it. Some product utilized, I was unable to untangle out of my hait, upon removing the braids which left with NO choice except to cut my hair at the level/length of tangle! UGH!! 😱😳 Now it seems I cannot get it to grow back. I feel completely ignorant of it ~ texture, porosity, curl pattern and all you discuss!? I don't even know what to put on my hair anymore??? I'm presently using castor oil and a jojoba sheen combination 🤔😥

I think your curl pattern is more of a 4a and a bit looser in the front, like you stated. With all of the characteristics to define natural hair this is where I get so confused with determining what's best for my hair. I have 4bc hair, low porosity medium thickness, and high density. Not sure where I fit as far as protein goes. My hair was feeling limp and mushy in the front so I started adding more protein to my regimen and I am still trying to figure it all out, after being two years natural. Thank you so much for the info, if I can just figure out what my hair needs and retain some length. I will be happy!😊

Hi Lyda, I enjoyed this video so much! I am always pursuing the best hair style, (must be perfect, right?). For years I've basically blown my hair out and then flattened the whole thing on the hottest setting. Otherwise I battle frizz. My hair is fine, damaged, and naturally wavy in the most horrid way. Air drying would make a flat frizzy mess. I just happened upon your video while I was looking for ways to transition to curly, (wavy) hair. Even though your talk was about something else, it was so informative. You are very knowledgable and you.were very interesting to listen to. I learned a lot about my hair, and hair in general. I have never left a KZbin comment, but I enjoyed your talk and am looking forward to what you say next. Any tips for high porosity, chemically treated, (not lightened), shoulder length, 2a, hair? lol

There you are. I’m subscribed to you but your videos stop sending notices. Thank you so much for all your research... I could not figure out what was happening with my natural hair. I have been natural for years but I always flat iron my hair..... it stop growing and started shedding really bad.... I got crochet braids and replaced them every four weeks for over 3 months. My garage of hair hates braids....My hair broke off behind my ears and I eventually lost hair in the front as well. Then I think I over moisturized my hair.... I was freaking out, I dealt with this for over a year and half... until I came across your videos about 5 months ago. You saved my life and explained how I was damaging my hair.... The front portion of my hair is 3c and tends to get tangled more easily and has fine strands there. My hair is crazy because i have coarse and thin hair types mixed with 3b and 3c and i am bad at taking care of my hair. This is just weird. I have to comb my front hair with a thin comb to get the fine stranded front hair open up. They get soo tangled.

I’m confused about porosity - my hair matches the characteristics you described for high porosity however when I did the water glass test it matches the low porosity 😩
@Raylynnbitch4 жыл бұрын
That’s why I won’t do the water test Ctfu I don’t need the confusion. I believe I have super high porosity. Ima stick with that lol
@allthingsqwiddy74994 жыл бұрын
If u do the water test u have to be careful with the temperature of the water, it needs to be in the cool state (if the water is warm then u will be confused because low porosity hair cuticles will open up and absorb the water and will sink making u think u have high porosity, and if u use cold water then the cuticles are going to close and the hair wont sink making u think u have low porosity) make sure ur strand is product free before doing the water test. Another way to figure it out, is how ur hair respond to products. If the product sits on ur hair or it doesn't absorb then its low porosity if it immediately soaks it up then it's high porosity, (especially if it gets dry and matted easily or right after moisturizing) if it's in between then it's normal porosity. Hope that helps!! 😉

My hair is 3c medium fine and low porosity. Now you said I need to do protein treatments in order to strengthen the hairs follicle, but my hair is also low porosity, so what do I do as far as products and a good hair care regimen?

I would say for you to incorporate light protein products until you find the right amount for your hair. Because your hair strands are thinner, you will need protein, but because your hair is low porosity, you want to stick to light proteins to avoid product build from large proteins that will just sit on top of your hair. It will be some trial and error to see how sensitive your hair will be to protein. If you haven't already, I suggest you watch my video on the best proteins to use for low porosity hair :)

Is high porosity hair more sensitive to the type of water you use? Should I be using a water filter? I know if there's a lot of chlorine in your tap water, that affects the curl pattern. I do know that my tap water is VERY hard and I'm wondering if that's damaging my hair? I imagine it can't be good for your hair OR skin

I’m beginning to think it’s better to grade hair when it’s wet without any products. Curls change depending on how the hair is dried and what products are used. Still trying to decide where my curls fall, not that it matters too much.

The top half is straight, and the bottom half is very wavy when wet. Any ideas for cutting/styling it? I'm usually putting it half up or the top half in a mini knot.

Hola Iyda! Please HELP?!?! Just a cpl questions I would REALLY appreciate your opinion with. Curious. How does one choose what’s best for healthy hair when there is conflicting information? 1. How can one tell if they are protein sensitive or not? 2. How can one tell if my THIN POROSITY hair needs conditioning OR if my THIN hair is OVER conditioned? Being a gal with med/low density, low porosity, thin, fine hair. ( : ( all titles I would have RATHER not have. Grass IS always greener now isn’t it? LoL a.t.m I’m not compiling things and worrying about the pattern number or letter of my hair. The goal is new and RGHT FOR ME products to get my hair as HEALTHY as possible) After watching this video again, again and again, my take aways are as follows: USE a PROTEIN treatment to strengthen my THIN hair However - My LOW POROSITY hair MAY be PROTEIN SENSITIVE So yes, I have to figure out if I am, or if I am not protein sensitive. (Seems to be uber important to me.) Also: Deep condition with warm water and use a baggie as using heat slightly opens the cuticle and helps get the conditioner INTO my LOW POROSITY hair. However, Those with THIN hair are prone to OVER CONDITIONING which with THIN haired ppl will result in weighted / limp hair or make it *mushy??* thus losing my natural curl shape. Thank you in ADVANCE to ANYONE who takes the time to help a sister out here! I TRULY appreciate it!

I used to put coconut oil in my hair because everywhere I read, women swore by it to moisturize hair but after a couple tries of wanting it to do that for my hair but it only horribly doing damage to my hair, did I research that I have a lot of protein in my hair already!
