What's the main thing holding you back from learning how to play Guilty Gear Strive?
@jeanlucstitt9950 Жыл бұрын
characters somehow became less interesting to learn from xrd to strive. Im playing zato rn and trying to get to celestial but i feel as though most the cast is really boring. played a lot of BB, stf4, and MKX before this. I feel like the increased cost for RC and high dmg makes for less player expression. dont get me wrong I still like playing strive but It just didnt draw me in at first.

Also love combo trials with all my heart but they just didnt drop any with this game initially which really turned me away.

I can definitely understand how you feel there. When Strive first launched, as much as I loved Millia she just didn't feel right for me with that current version of Strive. I kept character hopping up until Testament's release.

What’s funny is that NA community seems to believe that they are the best no matter the fighting game but then go play players outside their region and are often reality checked. On a more positive note it’s beautiful to see your passion for Strive and how you enjoy top level plays with good prize pools for players
@Iyokuu Жыл бұрын
LMAO Why did you have to call NA out like this? And yeah, same! It was super cool to see high level gameplay of Strive and I'm looking forward to seeing more from a bunch of other games too. now I've just gotta get myself to play them at a decently strong level. 😅

Like how you highlighted how NA favors characters that bypass the fundamentals of the game. This has been a thing in every game where the west tends to lean on "cheesier" strategies. Meanwhile, the eastern players are always focusing on honing their fundamentals and mechanical execution. This is not necessarily bad since a lot of innovative strats are often discovered by western players. On the other hand, eastern players are showing the peak of performance through their skills. If people realized that none of these approaches to games is inheritnely better than the other we could have much more interesting discussions.

@Doople Жыл бұрын
Nah that's a scruby way to think about it. NA likes offensive and JP likes defense. TY is a perfect example as they usually go for whiff punish. TY and Mocchi also dash block a ton. Both style requires skill and get wins but it's clear NA undervalued defensive play and well rounded characters
@Iyokuu Жыл бұрын
I just wanna point out that whiff punishing and dash blocking aren't "defensive plays". I'd put it under movement more than anything, but can also be seen as offensive to an extent. That being said, the best NA players can hold their own against a lot of JP. Moooost NA players do not like neutral, so they look for characters (subconsciously or not) to skip neutral. lol

Umisho hasn't really been that consistent when it comes to majors lately I feel. She keeps dying in the top 32 spot, for a hot sec. Not to dis on her, but after evo she hasn't been going as ham as she has before imo
@Iyokuu Жыл бұрын
Yeah, going back to watch some of the recent tournaments I've noticed her results are mostly pre-EVO 2022. I would be inclined to say a good chunk of that reason is the patch it was on too.
@nekudarkenxRikuxXxda Жыл бұрын
Feels like a lot more top players are learning how to deal with HC and his unique pressure now, and so as a result, HCs are starting to lose their grip as ppl develop against it. HCs worst matchups in no order are Chip, Ram, and Leo. Meeting them in bracket can always lead to a hard time as they learn manuever around the fact he has no reversal and has to mash out of pressure which leads to a fast death if wrong
@dirges1239 Жыл бұрын
@@nekudarkenxRikuxXxda I mean sure but if you look at her results she doesn't even play hc on netplay tournaments too often anymore. HC is rough in tournament cus of the mental stamina you need to have to perform. This should have been prime HC time due to it being such a short bracket. I'm not saying you're wrong, but this also wasn't peak umisho where she just dominated hard. Alot of factors led to her getting out at 0-2

I will say tho that apart from picking up a character and learning a combo or two, I have struggled to learn more universal stuff (from YT). I come from playing LoL mainly where there are guides and content for EVERYTHING. I would like to see more varied GGst content for sure.

I actually just realized recently how bad my neutral was because I switched over to Sin from HC. Not that I don't still really like that character and think he's super fun but he covered up a major flaw in my game I basically had no skill in whatsoever.
@Iyokuu Жыл бұрын
Yeah, a lot of anime -> traditional players have this flaw in their gameplay from my experience. Chaos has every tool in the book to make up for his poor defense and even better, he has a negative frame 1 gun. lol Sin, Sol, or Ky would give you some good areas to brush up on fundamentals in neutral for sure. You should have some fun!

As a new strive player with only button mashing fighting experience, i can say this about strive. I've literally never played a game that teaches you the basics as well as strive. Normaly I avoid online play like the plague. But I've been living in the battle tower since picking up Strive. hardstuck floor 6 atm. But I win, and i learn. More then when I played Jojo battle r, Mortal kombat, or KOF.

@Iyokuu Жыл бұрын
As much as I love Sajam... He makes great streams, but not specifically content. What I was referring to in my video is dedicated "content" for X fighting game. Not so much a stream converted into a video or a byproduct of such, but an actual "This is specifically for KZbin/Twitch/TikTok/whatever" and is treated as such. Think Excellent Adventures as a great example.

I didn't go over it in this video specifically, but people who said that about the last patch were right. This patch is insanely good in comparison to the entire lifespan of Strive. We can all agree HC ruins people's day, but outside of HC, everyone in the cast is good. Mechanics are universally used amongst the cast, another good. The only thing that would've made this past patch better would've been a DMG reduction across the board.
