is it bad to master a song on the master channel of the mixed project? i mean not just on a wav of the mix but on the same project of the mix...i do that often when i feel like ive finished a mix ill pop an ozone at the end of the chain on the master channel, is that bad?

No, it's perfectly fine to do it all in the same project. Many people prefer doing it in a separate session because of the following: 1. They like seeing the mixed or stem waveforms while mastering 2. Mastering plugins can be resource intensive, so a separate session can avoid cpu bottlenecks 3. Separating the session helps the mentality of 'locking in the mix' , so you don't continually go back and make small tweaks. Allowing you to finish songs faster. 4. They like the workflow choice of mastering in a separate session, because if they use external mastering services it's all the same workflow. 5. Less distractions and better organization if you do small automations with your mastering (since it's a clean session).

@@gflare Brilliant answer to a very logical question...I was wondering the very same thing...so thanks a lot!! I am assuming also, that the final mix should be thought of as the end of that part of the production process; in that the vast majority of the rough edge donkey work should be done in that final mix stage and not later. THEN, the mastering is the final polishing stage of the already completed and pretty near perfect mix...hope I've understood this, but please correct me if I am wrong! Thanks!

Why does Ozone take soooooo much CPU in Ableton? It makes it almost impossible to mix with the master on even with all the tracks frozen.

yea u have to bounce the track first without stems into a fresh live set then work off the master audio. The more audio tracks, the more CPU drag

Thank you. This Video really helped me!!!! But which level should have my mixed wave-file...? Because if my mixed file is too loud the maximizer will destroy the sound, thats what happened to me some days before.
