That whistle is from Jhope himself, he often whistle the melodies of the songs he listens to. He was home thinking what kind of music to make and he just randomly blew a whistle and that just became the melody for On The Street

LOVE THIS SONG 🔥 J hope was really inspired by many artists but it's true that J.Cole is his muse. In their song called Hip Pop Phile/Lover he says, "Hope hope world before I built my own world, there was Cole world | When he lit up Friday night, | I became more inspired to write my own music". BTS also sample J. Cole's Born sinner and the song calls Born Singer, they made that song in 2014 I think but it was last year that BTS added that song to his latest album 'Proof' because it's a really special song for them and well, I guess they got permission from Cole. As for this song. This is Hoseok saying goodbye for now to ARMY, BTS and his family while he gets ready and leaves to service his time in mandatory military service. So this is his last gift to us before he leaves, so it is special for ARMY and of course It's SO special for Jhope. We ARMYs feel so proud of Hobi because he really got to collab with one of his greatest role models. J hope let J cole own this song and I respect that. This is such a great collab, Hobi did great but I think Cole ATE that. His verse is fcking amazing and that bar about a father walking his daughter down the aisle got me ngl This feels more like a J cole song with a little bit of J-hope essence and It's great

We really appreciate the BTS Army with their love and support of BTS and the depths of how it seems everyone has a great story or moment that has connected them to this group and turned them into true fans of theirs. We here at the C&N Podcast, are proud to say we consider ourselves members of this BTS Army and the values and morals they have.

there was a billboard I think in the teaser that said my call which is so symbolic. J. Cole's call when he retires and j-hopes call as to choosing to enlist now. Both reflecting on their careers and j-hope using his farewell track to pay mad respect to old school hip hop and to his inspiration, J. Cole.

In his live, jhope mentioned that he only has JCole in his mind when he was working on this song in Oct/Nov last year.. perhaps that's the reason why this song fits JCole so well.. Also, JCole is a freaking chameleon.. he can melt into any song, any beat and made it his like nobody's business.. so yeap..

- [ ] J-hope is the most versatile and adventurous when it comes to his rapping. His flows and cadence are amazing! He is a swag rapper. He is also a great vocalist that it is so smooth for him to switch! He could do it all! Hiphop flows through his veins. He started as an underground street dancer! Therefore he rides the beat and has rhythm. He is also a soloist so please check out his album Jack In the Box! This song is a gift for his fans as he is about to enlist. The whole mv is about his background in dancing and as the biggest fan of JCole he gave the floor to him and let him do his thing on the roof while jhope dance underground like he used to. Listening to JCole’s songs. JCole is jhope’s muse! That is how much respect he has on JCole. Also FYI, Jcole’s bar about wanting more, jhope has rapped about putting out his fire (Arson) and wanting more (More). Also the whistling it is j-hope who created the melody and the one whistling.

I LOVE this collab and the vibe is FIRE...straight to my playlist! You guys are spot on about the background history: JCole has been JHope's muse for YEARS, going back to when JHope was growing up a street dancer freestyling to JCole's music. JHope's rap style is layered and melodic, but the fact that he's a rapper is also partly inspired by JCole (JHope learned to rap and develop his own style while rooming with RM and SUGA, way back in the day). So yeh, for JHope to be in a phase in his career when he gets to do his own solo video *featuring* his long time muse that JHope can dance to on the video is hugely heartfelt for JHope...brings a damn tear to my eye!🥺The song is intended to be a farewell-for-now to ARMY from JHope. *Side note: JHope started this thing called "Hope on the Street" years ago (before BTS got huge), a series of videos he recorded just showing him (and sometimes other BTS members) freestyling to beats... first time I saw those vids, I thought they were Jabawaki😅Anyway, this is kind of a continuation of that to leave us with before he has to disappear from the scene for 2 years serving his mandatory military service (technically, SKorea and NKorea have been in a cold war for decades, so most able bodied men have to enlist by a certain age). JHope's message (in pov) is that we all gotta let go to grow, but will continue the grind (just in a different way/level), and be back stronger, inspiring ARMY to do the same. He wrote this song in October last year, just after he headlined in Chi Lollapalooza (made history as the the 1st SK artist to headline in Lolla history), where he met JCole. JCole obviously put his own spin on his verses (like the boss he is!), but it's also easy to see how JHope could've rapped some of JCole's parts himself, imho... but JHope said himself (on BTS's VLive platform), that he kept thinking of JCole doing it. JHope clearly has a LOT of respect for JCole and also described JCole "hyung" (older bro, respectfully, in Korean) as a kind person. Thanks for reacting to this very relevant new classic collab!✌💜

Since you guys are so enthusiastic about hip-hop (and open-minded to music in general it seems), I think you can't go wrong checking out more of the rappers, whether their individual projects or songs as the rapline trio with BTS. Of course the full group songs too and other mixtures within BTS, but I don't think there's a right or wrong way to get into them. BTS' early years as a whole is very hip-hop driven (they were initially a hip-hop group before it was decided to be an idol group), and has since evolved over the last 10 years, like any artist does who wants to hone their craft. Enjoy the ride, can't wait to be here for it no matter what/how you choose to!
