This song is a gift from J Hope to BTS fans as he’s about to be the 2nd member of BTS to enlist in the military to fulfill his mandatory military service. BTS did an interpolation of J Cole’s “Born Sinner” called “Born Singer” after they debuted in 2013. J Hope also considers J Cole his muse. 🫶🏻💜🇨🇦

People all over the world don't understand English but music in English is global and now we have the advantage that translations are easily accessible. When it comes to BTS you have to forget all preconceived notions about boy bands and kpop in general. BTS has worked with numerous western artists Nicki Minaj, Halsey, Steve Aoki, Juice Wrld, Zara Larsson, Charli XCX, Lil Nas X, Wale, Snoop Dogg, Sia, benny blanco, Max, Lauv, Coldplay, Megan Thee Stallion, Anderson .Paak, Erykah Badu, Charlie Puth, The Chainsmokers, Jason Derulo, Ed Sheeran, Desiigner, Becky G.

Jhope made this song to say goodbye to his fans because he’s going to the military soon, this is like a gift for the fans. Jcole also hinted at retirement if you look at the lyrics of his part. Jhope also let jcole have the biggest part in this song because jcole is his muse and wanted to show him some respect. Jhope did the mixing for this song and the whistle too.

Some Backstory: 3 Rappers in BTS... J-Hope is using a lot of intentional symbolism in this video (the side street and intersection from what I understand is inspired by an early J.Cole video, the subway corresponds with JColes bars and the subway stop that inspired Jay Zs moniker, the journey through the streets, through the underground and to the pinnacle (rooftop) where he can finally meet up with his inspiration. He started as an underground hip hop street dancer (thus the underground scene) inspired by the Culture, and has always claimed JCole as a Muse and major inspiration...that's why he gave him 32 bars and danced while he rapped...he came full circle while also leaving this gift for his fans and paying homage to HIS OWN IDOL. J-Hope is one of the 3 rappers in BTS and J. Cole is his idol. BTS has made references to a lot of hip hop greats in their music such as in their track "Hip Hop Phile/Lover" and they did a cover of J. Cole's "Born Sinner" called "Born Singer" nearly 10 years ago which you should check out! (there is the live performance when they started out and also a more recent version) J-Hope also has a mixtape "Hope World" and studio album "Jack in the Box" for his solo work.

If you’re here for J.Cole, I'm really glad you've given j-hope and BTS a chance. If you think On the Street is amazing, wait till you dig a little deeper beneath the layers. I can't write an essay (well I could, but I won't), but here are my TLDR highlights: 1. J.Cole has always been j-hope's idol, and BTS wrote their cover to Born Sinner called Born Singer just 20 days after they debuted in 2013. On the Street continues the narrative of Born Singer, which then echoes Born Sinner. How? J.Cole talks about the metamorphic journey he and j-hope have gone through heaven and hell to get to where they are in music, it calls back to Born Sinner's verse of how music is a gift and how her personification screams 'don't let me slip', and he replies ' don't lose me the more I change', Born Singer takes that further in j-hope's verse where he pleads not to lose himself or his original intention. 2. J.Cole asks in Born Singer 'where is the tutor for me?' and he answers in On the Street that it's been there all along 'as the creator of this theatre' who gently guides him. I particularly love the spiritual motif of J.Cole's rap, which is something he does often, and what makes this collab especially poignant is that he did so in Born Sinner 'but God help us make it cos this music biz is a cliff', which in turn inspired Born Singer 'so we go we go we go, higher higher higher' and comes full circle for both in On the Street 'He swear that God ain't real, since it ain't no way to prove it to his self, as if the universe ain't enough, as if the volcanoes ain't erupt'. Shout out to J.Cole for using some BTS/ARMY key words - proof and universe, because they are so meaningful to us. 3. In On the Street J.Cole references music again, likening 'her' to his daughter but now being able to let her go in order for her to grow, but first to hone his style before passing on the crown - this is so profound because he's dug deep into his own journey in music, but also echoing all the sentiments of what BTS have gone through, and are going through right now, with their individual creative projects, the enlistment, their years of fatigue, but also now their renewed hunger for music ' I got a strange kind of hunger, the more I eat, the more it gets stronger' which calls back to j-hope's other song 'More' from his 2022 solo project 'Jack in the Box' - 'Now I ask myself, choose what, do i put out the fire, or make it flare up even stronger' and from 'Arson' - 'too much is as bad as too little, to know to quit while being ahead, that's the style'. 4. There's plenty of emotional resonance in this song, which alludes to the past, present and future for j-hope. I especially love the reference to Butterfly - a BTS song in which they expressed their fear of being forgotten 'like a wind that gently strokes me, like a dust that gently drifts along, you're there but for some reason, I cant reach you' to 'to repay you even from afar, now just walk lightly, whenever you walk, Go on hopefully, wherever you walk, In these streets imbued with someones breath, I leave my soul and my eternity, everywhere (I’ll be)' in On the Street, where he expresses his security in ARMY's presence and offers his own presence even if he's leaving us for a while (military enlistment). On this note, in j-hope’s other song ‘More’ he ends with ‘I’m still (not enough)’ - a claim that there’s more to conquer but also perhaps insecurity, whereas in On the Street, he ends with ‘On the street (I’m still)’ which is open-ended and hopeful. A bold confirmation that he is still the very SAME j-hope from the beginning, that he has never lost his original intention (Born Singer). 5. There are layers upon layers, not just in the lyricism, but also the music video. This MV starts off the in the alley where 'Simba' left off from J.Cole's debut mixtape The Come Up. j-hope pays homage to J.Cole by starting the MV in the same way but then climbs the stairs to reach him at the top - literally 'J in the air'. The kid that is with j-hope in the beginning of the MV is also dressed almost exactly like J.Cole, and represents that youthful dream of j-hope wanting to be like J.Cole. It's a meaningful gift that we've been given, whether you love hip hop, J.Cole or j-hope. Good music and true artistry prevails and the truth will make itself known. On the Street is a wonderful present and tender farewell to ARMY: 'as the moon jumps over the cow' - a beautiful reference to the childhood story Goodnight Moon, but it is also a culmination of an adolescent dream to stand shoulder to shoulder with one of the greats. I hope you can open your mind to the love for music and respect of the craft that BTS live and breath. P/S You need to listen to j-hope’s More, Arson, his entire Jack in the Box solo album, Hope World mixtape, and BTS rapline's Ugh, all the Cyphers and Ddaeng.

If you liked this then check out his other solo songs like Arson, Equal Sign, 1Verse, Daydream or Hangsang. You'll realize how versatile he is with his productions. Aside from J Cole being J-hope's idol, there is a reason why J Cole collaborated with J-Hope because two great minds think alike.

I really liked your reaction to this song, thank you for listening with an open mind. A lot of people hear "BTS" and automatically discount their music as kpop. BTS started out as a Korean hip hop group, they know their stuff. Their catalog of 200+ songs fits every music genre except maybe country, lol. They are FAR beyond kpop musically. Their 3 rappers are excellent and are known for their lyricism. I hope you will look more into BTS' music, at the very least the songs by the rapline, I don't think you'll be disappointed! Each rapper (RM, SUGA and J-Hope) also have mix tapes and solo albums which are very well regarded. In the words of BTS rapper SUGA, if you can listen without prejudice you will find that you'll like their music. I hope this initial introduction to J-Hope will interest you enough to look at more of their music.

BTS have great music that you can definitely vibe with without understanding the language. However, *lyrics is actually one of the main reasons why BTS is so popular.* Through translation, their lyrics and positive message have helped millions of fans around the world through hardships. They write songs based on their personal thoughts and experience, and have spoken about mental health, self-love and self-discovery, societal commentary, loss and grief, and more. This is why their fanbase is so diverse, of all ages, genders, race, nationality, because no matter who you are, at some point in your life, you've experienced loss and hardships, and you can find solace or courage or inspiration in their songs. BTS have three rappers. RM and Suga were both underground rappers before joining BTS, while J-hope was a street dancer. They each have released solo mixtapes and albums. Suga/Agust D is going on tour, with the US leg the end of April to mid-May. The tickets were sold out within hours. I think you would enjoy exploring more songs by the BTS rappers. Some suggestions: * J-hope: "Arson", "More", "Chicken Noodle Soup" * RM: "Still Life" (with Anderson Paak), "Wild Flower", "Joke" * Suga/Agust D: "Daechwita" (the MV is top-notch), "Agust D", "The Last" * BTS did a remake of J. Cole's "Born Sinner", called "Born Singer". A passionate song about their debut. * They also have a song called "Hip Hop Lover" or "Hip Hop Phile", where the rappers tell you how they got into hip-hop and the artists that influence them, both Korean and Western artists, including J. Cole.

Fun Facts for those who don't know. J.Cole is j-Hopes biggest influence/inspiration and muse. JHopes album "HOPE WORLD" is a play on J.Coles first album "Cole World". The BTS song "Born Singer" is also a play on J.Coles song "Born Sinner". The Avirex fit JHope is wearing is also homage to J.Cole. The street JHope was on at the beginning is the SAME EXACT street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And JHope dancing during Coles verse is because JHope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day.. The visual easter eggs and homage paid to J.Cole in this by JHope is insane. Shows his genuine love for a GOAT like J.Cole. This whole collab is legendary and will be cemented in history forever.. This a big W for Kpop and HipHop

" In a way, you could say the song began with me whistling as I often whistle the melodies of the songs I listen to. I was home dwelling on what kind of music to make and I just randomly blew a whistle and that just became the melody for “on the street (with J. Cole).” I instantly liked it, recorded it, and worked on the song with my producer. It came to me naturally, so I hope listeners would feel the same way about the song. It is a song for fans (us), both Jhope and JCole talk to their fans both on topics are relevant for each, Jhope and his military enlistment and JCole and his future plans. The vibe is uplifting in a way but bittersweet. I think is exactly what we all needed. The most precious part in the MV is Jhope dancing to every word in JCole’s verse. the collaboration is meaningful on many levels, and not only for the two j's. perhaps the best is seeing that these two immensely talented artists, with different skin colors, from different different backgrounds and different cultures, can come together and create beautiful music. if anything, this collaboration is also a profound statement against racism: on the street, every one is the same -- for as individuals, we all "run, move, look, love, and hope" towards our dreams for our selves, our families, our friends, for all of us.

It’s kinda sad j hope might be gaining some new audience through this collab just as he’s leaving, but there’s plenty of back catalogue for just him solo as well as part of bts’ rap line - I’d recommend Arson, his lolla performance, his SICK freestyle dancing vlives, and UGH and Deang for bts all three rappers alongside the dktv explanation vids to understand the word play and nuances in the Korean lyrics !

BTS call themselves people who love music, they don't have an official music genre, one day they give you a song to dance to and the next they tell you how hard life is and how unfair society is, but they will always leave a message through of the music. they make their own music, they write, compose and produce, they also play some instruments, BTS comes from below, nothing fancy as usual in kpop. They had nothing to lose, because when you're down the only thing left is to go up. thanks for watching our to J-hope (with the great J.cole) without prejudice, we really appreciate it 💜
@jcasa3646
@jcasa3646 Жыл бұрын
I agree, this IS beautiful. JHope wrote this after he dropped his solo album last year (Jack In The Box) and made his own history separate from BTS (the all-time most awarded Kpop group by far, but also THE most successful, phenomenally talented group on the globe in general today) as the 1st South Korean artist to ever headline for Lollapalooza (Chicago) last year, where he and JCole (his long-time muse) met in person. JHope started this thing, "Hope on the Street" years ago - before BTS earned their global fame of today - where he'd video himself freestyle dancing (sometimes with other BTS members) for fans. This collab w/ JCole is like a continuation of JHope's earlier years dancing to JCole's music... but damn, talk about a dream come true for JHope (a guy who also created his own "Hope World")! This is, imo, prob why JCole has the floor in JHope's video for as long as he does, full respect. But Cole's lyrics also seems to reflect JHope's own career / experiences working his way up over the years as an artist and solid BTS member with the biggest fan following in the world. The lyrics also connect in a way that they are relatable in different ways to different people (that's a common thread in much of the writing styles for BTS's music). And, yes, they do much of their music multilingually. A lot of people don't know that BTS started out hip hop, working their way grinding up from the bottom for 10+ years, grew a near-broke label (Big Hit) into the biggest in S. Korea and growing worldwide (HYBE)... all the way to the top of the top. They are these humble, respectful and respectable, phenomenally talented gents, always filled with gratitude, earning every bit of their accolades. Their body of work is diverse. JHope is 1 of 3 BTS rappers, alongside RM and SUGA (RM is the Leader and 1st member of BTS, recently collab'ed on his solo album with artists including Erykah Badu and Anderson.Paak; SUGA, aka Agust D, recently sold out most the venues for the US leg of his solo concert tour in about an hour). RM, SUGA and JHope are also the 3 main songwriter/producers of BTS (all 7 members of BTS are songwriter/producers/contributors). RM and SUGA made their way up starting as underground rappers... their rap styles tend toward rapid fire and content rich, lyrically. JHope developed his style of rapping - melodic/layered, like his dancing (he's also BTS's Dance Leader), but can also rap hard - while rooming with RM & SUGA in their earlier years, before BTS debuted in 2013 as a 7-member group that includes 4 vocalists. BTS is known for their energetic choreography while singing/rapping, lyricism and storyline that runs thru their albums (among a lot of other projects and music genres they have their hands in...endless, really). All 7 members do successful solo projects, each with their own style, but the group is the bros' core, and they know how to come together seamlessly.

"us" is referred to the BTS army , jhope is referring to the fans , BTS always refers to armys in their songs... the child in the beginning also represent armys and u can say hobi says goodbye to the kid that's a reference to him leaving for the mandatory military service in Korea which is for all male bodies in Korea for 1.5-2 years and jhope will start his soon... so this song is also very meaningful to us armys as well.. it's a see you later kinda song... and jhope did it with his muse JCOLE whom he looked upto since before becoming an artist

You guys were REFFERING to double entendres or triple entendres. But yes there was a bunch that flew a couple over your head. The "let her grow." was a bar because he was comparing his rap career to a daughter and the feeling a father would have letting her go in hand of another person. "Letting rap grow" on it's own. He might retire with this album "The Fall Off" he hinted it but his hunger for his passion won't let him. Jhope also shared these feeling in his album "Jack In the Box" about being artists who want to avoid burn out but still have love for what they do, cause it's all they know.

JHope wrote this song& his lyrics as a gift and did it with Jcole (wrote his part of course) as a message to ARMY until he returns from military service. Jcole did awesome with his part. Jhope was originally a hip hop dancer. He is amazing. I love the freestyle to JCole's lyrics. I think it's a great interpretation. Jhope met Jcole at Lollapalooza. Jcole inspired Jhope from an early age. There is a making of video out here. Check it out. I hope you watched the end. It was JCole's idea.

The art of music spans all languages, ethnicities and genres. If you don't understand what that person is singing just go look up the lyrics and what they are talking about, it's just that simple. And when you look for it and listen to the music genuinely and you don't understand the lyrics, you realize that there is the grace of the art of music; it picks you up and that's what's extraordinary about music. and BTS(my idols) they have always emphasized that their music is meant to impact people's lives and music brings people together. And they are really good at what they do and transmit an inexplicable energy.If you're - someday - reacting to some of their music do it for something genuine and you'll see what I mean...you'll feel their impact . I hope you guys react to more BTS songs (this was a J-Hope solo), I hope you guys react to more solo songs from them and the group. Have a great reaction! Peace!💜

You didn’t watch the last part 🥺 In my opinion the very end is a symbol of K-pop colliding with hip-hop which I think is going to be a game changer. So proud of you J Hope, cold world💜 Edit: Man, I’ve had ppl tell me BTS fans get crazy and that’s why they don’t make comments online and now I know why. Please breathe. I’ve been an army for 9 years., AUGUST D, one of the greatest in The WORLD, but many don’t know-- r&b and hip hop is what BTS was built on. They’ve collabed, I get it- RM & Wale is a great example but it didn’t leave A mark ON THE HIP HOP community. But who and what J Cole is in Hip hop is a different beast, hence the reason why he is such an influence for Jhope and many others. In less than two days hip hop fans who thought BTS were corny are now second guessing everything BTS stood for to them. ARMYS are downloading J Cole for the first time ever. They now care to dig deep and check out their roots and learn/ educate and give both artists a chance, and we can thank this song in helping pave the way for ppl to see how amazing they BOTH are. Let’s not kill this momentous collab with minutiae.

???? No the meaning is Jhope going from being just a fan of jcole and street dancer to a global star and meeting his idol at the top, the roof top, after he made it in this industry. Nothing to do with kpop. And it won't be a game changer cause BTS were always inspired by hiphop if you know their story and origin.

Music transcends language barriers. I honestly think you will enjoy more of BTS and the members solo projects. RM, J-Hope, Suga and Jimin have released their solos albums. Jin released a solo track with Coldplay before leaving for his mandatory military service. Jungkook just dropped his first solo called Seven ft. Latto [ kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4aclGNmapiId7c ] and hopefully soon his album. The members of BTS have worked with artists such as Wale, Steve Aoki, Benny Blanco, Snoop Dog, Juice WRLD, Lauv, Coldplay, Halsey, Becky G, Erykah Badu, MAX, also remixes with Desiigner, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, etc.

LISTEN TO HIP HOP LOVER AND BORN SINGER BY BTS. In hip hop lover (2014), J-hope shouts out J. Cole because they name all their influences. J-Hope literally named himself after him. BORN SINGER is the BTS adaption of BORN SINNER by J.Cole in 2013 when they debuted and J.Cole gave them permission to use it for the first track of their 9th anniversary anthology album on June 13, 2022. English lyric videos are available on youtube since ARMY translates them into every language. Thanks for listening! :)

*So...I'm 68, BTS Army fan, and my heart BURST watching you all* . Guy on right states "but it's all in Korean" and guy on left explained "it's a vibe" and in that one sentence GIL EXPLAINED EVERYTHING!!! I've been to two concerts, watched every video in the world, joined the Official Fan Club, and their music got me through an intense protracted divorce, and I've fallen in love with dozens of reaction video's, and I can tell a true reaction from a reaction pandering to Army...I just subscribed to CartierFamily. Please watch the live BTS song "I'm a Born Singer", it chronicles how hellish their lives were going through the Korean "Idol" process, it was brutal, they were mocked by "real" hip hop artists...and BTS just worked HARDER and they deserve all the respect they currently get from all over the world. "Born Singer" takes J Coles "Born Sinner" and no matter how many times I watch it the same intense joy repeats itself. I became a fan of J Cole because of the respect BTS, specifically J Hope, have for J Cole. I'm 68, white, a grandma...sharing that to explain that when someone "get's the vibe", then music changes you. Please, if you haven't already, watch "Born Singer" Live...hope to see a reaction video over it. 💜

im from Fayetteville so I was SO excited to see a j-hope j.cole collab happening. I absolutely love j.cole! and they complemented each other so well in this song. surprisingly so! so for some backstory, j-hope is about to leave to serve his mandatory military service so this song is the last one he's going to put for for a couple years. he wanted to give his fans one last message in his lyrics and he also wanted to use this song to revisit his roots. j.cole is someone that he looked up to the most, he’s mentioned him in past songs and how much he influenced him. before BTS, j-hope was a street dancer and he used to listen to j.cole and freestyle to his music when he was young. he wanted to show his respect to him in this song and that's why you see j.coles verse and j-hope is freestyling to him just like in the past. For On the Street, there are going to be two versions, this j.cole version and there is a j-hope version which hasn't dropped yet so we’re expecting to hear him insert more verses where j.coles were. if you wanted to check out j-hope, his newest album "Jack in the Box is an old school hiphop influenced album. you'll get to hear more of his rapping and his story. but if not, no worries, I really enjoyed your reaction to this anyways!
