J Mascis is set to launch his official Reverb shop tomorrow. Before sending this sparkle purple C&C kit off to a new home, he took it for one more spin by giving us an overview of some classic punk beats.

That's why I hate most punk, especially after the first generation when punk developed all the rules and devolved to leather jackets and playing fast. If I hear another punk cover where they take a classic song and speed it up to ludicrous speed I'll puke. It's just so unoriginal at this point. Nothing is more punk that the Pistols and very few of their songs were even fast, a few were slow, most were medium paced and then they had a couple of fast ones, but even their "fast" songs weren't punk fast. The Ramones got so ridiculously fast towards the end the Joey couldn't even fit the lyrics in. I just don't understand the appeal of that. The Ramones were relatively fast when they started but they weren't insanely fast like they were at the end.

Sebastien Lordez a lot of older punk drummers didn’t follow the proper drumming ‘rules’ if you will, as it pertains to technique. Their goal was just to play fast.
@Kizamime4 жыл бұрын
The drum sound is much worse than his performance, in my opinion. But, I guess if you enjoy boomy, stubstance-less drum tones and a snare with no snare, I understand.

Ive never understood why you wouldn’t start with the drums. If you are in a band take the time to make sure everyone in that band can play the drums with at least some decent proficiency and chances are you will end up having at least the best band you can have ..l wether that means success in the business of music is and should be irrelevant. (J is probably a lot better than this video shows .. you need to be in a pattern of practicing or at least be warmed up before the kinks get worked out. I was a guitar player only because mom and dad said no to drums - years later when I was asked to join a second band on the drums I jumped at the opportunity. Despite having no kit or ever having a lesson, etc. that band ended up going a lot farther than the other one I played guitar in [our drummer was a schizophrenic drummer. Exceptional, but couldn’t maintain a schedule despite being offered reg bookings after our first show])
