This is one of the most magnificent performances of Bach played on the classical guitar that you will ever hear.

I am a lover of Bach's music and I can testify that this is a seriously good performance. I repeatedly come back and listen to Jozsef Eotvos play this masterpiece.

I have heard a few amazing renditions of this piece on the guitar but this is by far the best and it captures the feel of the piece perfectly and I really do not feel ANYONE has done this anywhere near as well or beautifully as Jozsef Eotvos

First, I would like to express my deepest respect for you magnificient art. The Goldberg Variations are truly the only music I need in my life, they are the food for my senses, my mind and my soul. I am moved and grateful to you for bringing this treasure of immense value to the world of guitar. I am really hoping to attend your concert sometimes. With kindest regards, Rastislav from Slovakia.

What a feat! Jozsef Eotvos has a passion for Bach that shines through his accomplishments both as player and arranger. The first variation should in reality be impossible for one guitar. Most sane guitarist's who have been taught the classical guitar's limits, knows this. Guitarists for an entire century thought about playing it, but they said, "ok let's not waste our time, let's go and pick an easier piece by Bach.." (thinking about the keyboard player's two independent hands, and what's actually going on in the left hand through the entire piece. Not Jozsef Eotvos. Bravo!

A most evocative interpretation! I don'r know which amazes me more: 1) Your absolute mastery of tempo and dynamics/string attack 2) How well a Goldberg variation could translate to guitar - I never dreamed that it could. 3) Your deftness despite having what appear to be thick hands and fingers. Mine are more slender, still I could never play like this even if I practiced all day every day LOL. Thank you for posting this lovely performance.

The tonecolor, the clean pitch and the phrasing is so enticing, thanks for posting. I think the 3rd and further variation demand guitar duet, and he has recorded and published the whole set, so great!

I think classical music musicians and artists are taught when they learn to play the instrument in question . That one of the important things is to consider how the original composer felt when he / she wrote the music in question . And how they also felt when performing it ; in front of people . Mr Eotvos has inmense skill . Im glad someone is playing Bach and Brahms on this instrument ...

Human need to break barriers and extend frontiers neve cease to overwhelm me. Not so long ago no one would have ever imagined that such a monumental artwork as the Goldberg could be played on a guitar... and there you are. We hear nowadays BWVs that were thought to be outside the guitar universe. Thanks so much to every contributor from Tarrega to whoever may have done the last miracle (Eötvös is nearly my age, and so much has happened since his Goldbergs transcription). My most humble, deep and respectful admiration maestro.

My dear friends, the english version of my book about Bach-interpretation questions is released! You can buy it at: www.gms-eotvos.com/store Here is a part from the Preface of the book: "... This book is not the usual umpteenth re-release, enumerating the life and works of the great German master, J. S. Bach. Those interested in such information should buy themselves another book. Here, I address those who would like to rethink some of the old seemingly clear and often assumed unquestionable roots on a deeper level and in an as yet unfamiliar way, and those who are not afraid of confronting new ideas and treading new pathes. Change and the path of change is always difficult. This is especially true if someone has been playing and listening to these works for a long time. I, myself have gone through this painful experience, as I have already mentioned, and therefore I know what I am talking about! For this reason, I have tried, as far as possible, to read these new ideas carefully, to support them with examples and to pass on to practising musicians, rather than a book about theory, a practical guide and handbook. I think that the significance of these ideas goes beyond the sphere of those interested in classical guitar. So far, in my presentations, I have found them able to provide new, interesting stimuli to other early music instrumentalists. Therefore, if you like baroque music or Bach?s works but are not a guitarist, don?t put this book down! Read it! It will prove interesting!I wish you all an enjoyable and a useful read! ..."
