This may well be the best Partita 3 performance I have heard over the last 65 years. Incredible bowing, perfect phrasing, and of course gorgeous violin. Music composed by a 17th century German master played/interpreted flawlessly by a 21st century Korean violinist. What a wonderful world!

Suyoen’s violin sound is so clean , clear, transcendent. She is at ease with Bach’s music. It just cleanse all the dust from my soul. Wonderful!! I think I am so lucky to listen to her music. She only concentrates on music nothing else. I look forward to her getting grow as time goes by, Wish her many good lucks and health in the coming years.

I'm a professional violinist playing for over 30 years. I've played and heard a LOT of solo Bach. This is some of the most beautiful playing I have ever heard! So exquisitely and tastefully done. Love love love her interpretation and the beautiful phrasing and tone. I'm going to go back and revise some of my bowings and phrasings because I love some of the new ideas she's given me to make my interpretation even more beautiful.

wow!!

Admittedly, I'm no violinist but, when I listen to the Prelude played on the violin and compare it to the guitar and lute playing of the Prelude and the full blown Sinfonia to the Cantata 29 with the Organ and strings, oboes, trumpets and timpani, I somehow feel that violinists miss something of what Bach was after in this violin version. I've yet to hear a violinist play this in the way I feel Bach wanted it to be played. as satisfying as I hear this performance.
@throwingpotsandpans7 ай бұрын
I would like to hear what you think would be an appropriate performance. For example, I like Mateusz Kowalski's version, but I would not put it above this one, or the one done by Hilary Hahn.
@grahamnancledra70367 ай бұрын
@@throwingpotsandpans My point is, that I don't think the work is for violin. I prefer it played by lute which I believe it was written for. It's not a question of which violinist plays it adequately but whether it should be played on the violin at all. Somehow, I think the cello with the larger voice range would be better especially with the lower chords in the work that come out within the orchestra in BWV 29.
@Jeolas13 ай бұрын
@@grahamnancledra7036 How come you think that it has not been written for violin? The composer himself wrote a fair copy titled "Sei Solo a Violino senza Basso accompagnato" (which contains his 6 Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin). Bach later also arranged some movements for lute, harpsichord or organ. Well, that's what the (German) wikipedia says. Can you give any sources for your assumption?

Arthur Grumiaux updated... The only performance of the E major partita that bears listening to over and over.
It sounds good, but she has what my violin teacher called, "fly-away-fingers". I got rapped on the knuckles for that. 🙂 But, if you have great talent, you can get away with anything.

Great example of the Korean wonder. I.e., people who exerts an old-time all-in dedication, effort and passion to reach sublime heights; like talented people used to, before they got lazy in the modern world. But I question the outcome of this *recording*. Miss Kim is certainly more talented than this recording tells. A huge, empty hall with a solo violin (like in a church, the most horrible recording venue for stringed instruments) makes the violin sounds silvery and metallic. This is a mistake, and not attractive.
