OMG - The Heavens opened with this song!! When Freddie was diagnosed the Dr. encouraged him to quit smoking which seemed to strengthen his vocal range very similar to early Queen music!! Freddie’s vocals are always phenomenal. You should checkout LET ME LIVE .... very Gospel sounding. Brian & Roger also have singing parts, too. 😇
@joan7833 жыл бұрын
I’m not a medical or Queen expert, but from what I’ve read Freddie in early Queen days didn’t smoke. He took up smoking to develop the rasp in his voice, though I think it was also a good prop for his nervous shyness. When he became ill he gave up smoking and drinking, on doctors orders for a bit longer life, and his voice changed again. Amazing.
@ZENOBlAmusic3 жыл бұрын
Freddie lost power in his voice, he had to sing with more head or mixed voice. That is why it sounds so high, when he was younger his voice did not have the range and power yet. In the 80's his voice was powerful enough that he could just sing in full chest voice most of the time.
@ZENOBlAmusic3 жыл бұрын
@@joan783 Freddie didn't develop a rasp in his voice, his voice was never a raspy type of voice like Roger's voice. He added that rasp and grit. When he sang live there are often passage where he did not use grit. In Who Wants To Live Forever live, he basically did not use any grit.

No run up to this one - straight in at the deep end with layer upon layer of Gospel style harmonies from Freddie. Then it slows down. Then it's changes to blues, then orchestral before the big choral finale. Lots to process in such a short piece. They didn't mess around.

Freddie wrote this song. He recorded it for his solo album "Barcelona", but later reworked it with the band for "Innuendo".

David,, I love your reactions so much because you hear all parts and pull out the base as do I. Deaky is so under appreciated by so many and was an equal in Queens success. Thank you for your valuable insights and keep up the good work. On a personal note. I am a 73 year old American female Queen fan who has dealt with depression for years and Queen is great medicine! Think very highly of you and will keep following. Brian would not be opposed to you tweeting him and might even write back to you, who knows. Best of luck!

I agree, I _love_ Freddie's 90s voice. It's like the best of both worlds (70s and 80s). The only thing I could criticize is his voice isn't as powerful in some songs, but he makes up for it with better singing technique that makes it seem like he's hitting those notes EFFORTLESSLY

Great reaction, it is nice to see someone appreciate this song. The highest notes were Freddie, Roger lost his high falsetto around 1979. Freddie generally had a higher falsetto then Roger. Roger's falsetto was just very resonant and bright during the 70's. Freddie sang all of the highest harmonies in the 80's and 90's. There are some other great 70's songs to also check out such as My Fairy King kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJa5m3idad-hh80 and The Great King Rat live at the Rainbow 1974 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH-ngJSwm7eaZpo.

Your reaction lol, I love how much you get into music! You are right Freddie’s 90’s voice is very different, this is one of my favorite songs as well. You are a true entertainer. I’m also downloading your album, excited about that too. Thank you!!!
@bridgettherose6092 жыл бұрын
I kinda hear both 80’s and 80’s Freddie in here. I know this was originally written for Barcelona and considered for The Miracle so maybe it’s recordings from both times and 1991? If that’s the case, they blend perfectly! Either way, it shows Freddie’s power when he still sings like this in a dying state! ✊
@spikejrt11 ай бұрын
Most of the song is from 88 (or maybe 87), the vocal line after the gospel bridge (about 6:05 in this video) is from 1990 and you can tell the difference in Freddie's voice in just a couple of years.
