but no seriously jack reacher's a solid detective/action flick and despite me not really liking tom cruise's stuff, this movie's a clear (and honestly, the only) exception. it was believable up to the part where the russian guy's rifle gets shot, but aside from that it ain't that bad

Though, Reacher has some skepticism about Cash’s true skills, Reacher claims the men Cash competed against in 1978 were much more skilled compared to the soften men Reacher defeated. He also jokes that Cash would be better if he would take more risks.

i love the sound of this scene. i have never been shooting in an environment like this, but the echoes and ricochets as well as the 'whistling' sound when the bullets are whizzing by seem pretty realistic. however, by the end i think everybody's ear drums would be blown out.

Not necessarily. They could have had suppressors built into the barrels. As well as sound dampeners in their ears (not the muffs but the little foam things you squeeze and tuck in)

You right about and sounds, this scene Is beautifull, but Reacher could go to them, for example, using stealth and as a diversion Is R. Duvall just shooting at them, while T. Cruise just sneaks in and Kill them with a knife( hahaha )........then again these guys Are ex russians military, so they Are not dumb, i think they did a pretty Good Job, but again the Bad guys must loose and i don't like it because in Real life its literaly oposite situation!!!.........im interested what do You think, ' cuzz i think You Been in military, me to, just in another country ( Serbia )!!!.......( Do You think that God Is gonna forgive for what " we" did? )..........the Army really fuck me up, to the core!.......

one thing I really appreciate from this scene is that they actually show the guy reloading his weapon at 3:36 as opposed to other movies where it shows them firing with unlimited ammo

also those two shooters unlike in other movies including John wick too, are well trained and don't let themselves become easy NPC targets at all. and the fact even with a sniping backup, Reacher had to think nuts to do nuts ( nuts in a crazy fashioned but good intentions) for taking those two out with swiftness once they are within his reach, makes very , in fact realistic to me.

I agree with you. It's a good movie and should be judge on its merits, not on its adherence to the novel. Marshall McLuhan made that point (discussing the movie version of "The Red Badge of Courage") 50 years ago. Cruise is a fuller character in this film than in any of the "Mission Impossible" thrillers.

Gunney gave Reacher a knife because all of his firearms were traceable and he could not afford to have the ATF chasing him if they found evidence of his involvement at the quarry. He knew that with a knife Reacher could get almost anything else. Gunney most likely picked up his brass just in case the investigators took the trouble to search the high ground. And, yes, I know it's not real!

I am pretty certain that the one thing a sniper hates the most is having a sniper trying to kill him while he is trying to kill someone. But one problem I have with the scene is that a sniper shooting at night from such sort distances would have a large suppressor on his rifle. Not so much so he could not be heard, the other shooters shooting would take care of that, but to prevent the muzzle flash from giving away his position.
