(personal notes) - make ideas all be related to eachother - storytelling elements - expressions, poses, outfits - adaptable style - name and email to every peice - position(s) you're aiming for - ref / turn around drawn out / turn around animation - line-up of all characters - dynamic poses - sketches - dont repeat expressions

Lord I loved Eszter's (the first artist) work so much! I love how they vary so many aspects of their style based on the characters they're making. The line weight, color palettes, and the characters. I personally have a big problem with spanning away from human characters and would love to see some more of their things or a social media on their portfolio. Overall obsessed with their stuff

Really appreciate it and as soon as I find the time I'll addapt some of these great advices. Thank you sm for sharing! You’re videos are soo helpful especially for someone who is very interested in working in character design such as myself 👀 I never went to art school and the college I’m in doesn’t technically have animation courses. So, I was wondering in terms of applying and building a portfolio, do larger companies look for people with experience? Like should I have gone to art school? I want to say no but I’m starting to second guess myself…
@JackieDroujko Жыл бұрын
agree with @poodled7794, it's not about what school you went to, it's about your portfolio! for entry level positions, experience isn't important, it's about the type of work in your portfolio. good luck!

I know you didn’t ask and i’m so sorry if this comes across as rude or something but as someone who dropped out of college and is now in cosmetology school and thinking of getting back into art as a casual hobby, and from someone who gets very envious of other people’s art. It’s your own race and it’s only you, do it at ur own pace, be sure to practice and don’t feel like ur not talented!! cannot stress that enough it eats at u very easily!! (also ur art on ur page is AMAZING!)
@conchesodan Жыл бұрын
@@fruit4evr you spoke some very wise facts tho!
@its_me_crystals11 ай бұрын
Try not to get stressed! I’m like u honestly I’m 15 and I’m nervous if I’m even gonna get a character design job, BUT even with all these artists out there u have ur own unique style and it might be just what someone is looking for! Even if someone has way longer experience ur art has just as much chance as their style to get picked :)
@cryism7798 Жыл бұрын
something so important in dynamic posing is opposing line angles. if they’re in action, especially like the brandolf the hero character, put the shoulders to a massive slant and make the hip line go the opposite way. you can see this in the re-draw jackie did but stepping back and paying attention to those energy-centric lines can help you push easily (arms and legs, elbows and knees included! if one is up make the other down)
@thereseenjoyer8 ай бұрын

@2teepeepictures382 Жыл бұрын
I enjoyed your video. If I could offer a bit of advance, if you want to impress the heck out of a long sword except, animate the swings that use both arms differently then the swings that use the top hand as a pivot point. It was when you mentioned the sword as heavy that made me think of this. A long sword in motion often looks weightless because one hand is near the center of mass at the top of the handle and the other is near the counter weight in the pommel. It might not directly apply to character design but it does indirectly apply for deciding what kind of posses to put the character in. Of course fights don’t have to be historically accurate. I just wanted to offer it as a option that would be appreciated by a decent sized demographic of people that feel unrecognized.
@2teepeepictures382 Жыл бұрын
I just want to clarify. I am not saying that it is wrong to do the “baseball bat” long sword thing. I just see a lot of people get criticized for trying to do it historically accurate. There is an amazing amount of grace to long sword combat that does not get represented in most animation.

As someone who wishes to go into art/animation (specifically cartoons) This video was actually really fun to watch, and even though I don't have any strong pieces of artwork or anything at all to create a portfolio I'll certainly try to keep these ideas in mind if I somehow end up getting a job interview for disney or cartoon network haha-
@frog_goblin Жыл бұрын
your portfolio IS your job interview!! the first one, at least. it's the same for applying for art universities. they want to hear from you, but what they REALLY want is to see your art. your art speaks volumes. it's why artists in the animation and cartooning industry put so much stress on it, and why art schools have portfolio review days. if it's your goal to go into that field and you're getting towards a place in your life where you're wanting to apply, i recommend working on art from the perspective of intending to create a portfolio. make work that shows what you love and also highlights why you'd be the right person for the job :) (best of luck as well, as someone who wants to do the same! it's lots of work but i wish someone had told me BEFORE i was in college just how important theyd be)
