I know the "why are dolls so creepy" was probably rhetorical, but I'm going to answer it anyway. The reason we get so creeped out by dolls is our brains are designed to seek and recognize faces. Dolls have human-like features, but most of them are slightly off, throwing off our brains. Basically, it's the uncanny valley effect, but a little more nuanced because of how different dolls can look, thus the different levels of "creepy." Plus, they've been used in horror media for ages now, so that probably doesn't help the brain not consider them a threat.

Finally an actually scary game that doesnt rely on jumpscares but uses a tense and tight atmosphere that also makes the player do certain things to continue while also tricking the player to think a jumpscare might happen but in fact doesnt and uses their fear to the settings advantage. Fir something somewhat but not exactly similar yall should try lost in vivo where the player tracks down his dog after it gets washed into the sewers and its the players job to find and rescue him. It brings somewhat of a silent hill vibe except you can actually kill the monsters

I used to stare at them when we would visit her. One day when we visited her, all of the dolls were replaced with fine china instead. I asked her why and where they went, and she shook her head and said something along the lines of: "Dolls are hollow on the inside with human limbs and human eyes. Souls can fill them. They are an easy vessel"

2:40 Similar with masks, dolls easily associate with the "uncanny valley" which is why they are so creepy. They are meant to look just like us, except inanimate.
