This is because your mac address is literally your wii's digital address, it is vital for your wii to connect to the internet.

I just inherited a Wii with nothing on it and no game disks and just discovered they shut down the Wii store. Crap. I'm definitely going the homebrew route. Quick question, you say I can use anywhere from a 2GB-32GB SD card, but everything else I read say it has to be 2GB or less. I have several 4GB cards, but just curious if I need to buy a 2GB just for the hack. Thanks.

You do know that you can use SD cards over 2 gb if you format it to fat32.

I use a 64gb formatted to fat32 and there is no issues. The only reason why it's said that you can only use up to 32gb is because anything over 32gb is formatted to exfat by default, which is incompatible with the Wii. However, anything over 32gb will work if it is formatted to fat32.

No way! My dad told me that if I tried connecting to wifi, Nintendo's systems would detect that your Wii was, in fact, modded and jank up your console forever! (If it helps, for context, my dad gave my sis and I a Wii for Xmas years ago and it came with everything but the wiiwheel! That and over a hundred obviously pirated games.) Is this at all true? I've completely set up an r4 card for the ds on my phone, I think you should be able to, just download a file manager and you should be fine to do this as downloads work on mobile
