Yes, we love both their covers and originals! Happy Now and Be My Eyes are two of their recent original songs that they released that are part of their upcoming 2021 album. They had earlier released an original album in 2015 that became number 1 on the US Billboard 200! Would love to see you check out those songs.

Yes! We listen to everything! The way they deconstruct & reconstruct covers, they are often like originals. Attention is a fav! Love that you pointed out that Chromatic walk-down...they did altogether , each in their own harmony. Another I love more that original is Blinding Lights! You can’t unhear the layered in harmonies that my ear misses in original. They sped up Come Along & made it fun! Originals I have on repeat...Sing, That’s Christmas to Me, New Years Day, Light in the Hallway, Run to You. And the two new ones on album releasing 2-12-2021 Be My Eyes and Happy Now really show their maturity!

This is one of my favorite covers and I love watching actual musicians and singers react to it because you guys are the only ones that REACT to that chromatic scale. Also I rock with their originals. My favorites are On My Way Home (no official video but there are several really great live performances on YT), Sing, New Years Day, Cracked, Be My Eyes... there are a lot LOL

Definitely listen to their original music, too! "Love Again" and "Sing" are favorites; also "Happy Now" which is recent. Two Pentaholic favorites have become a standard concert mashup: "I'm Cracked" and "Natural Disaster." "On My Way," "Standing By" (which no one but Avi should ever be allowed to sing) and "Light in the Hallway" and on and on. Kirstin's solo, "Water," which she wrote, is a great one for people with the patience to listen to lyrics.

A great track that really shows off Matt & Kevin is their New Rules x Are You That Somebody mash-up. Cologne is also really good. Unfortunately they haven't done a video for Cologne but well worth a listen without it. Kevin's beatboxing is insane.

For my birthday (yes, it's today), you reacted to maybe my favorite of all their performances/videos! No, really I can't choose, but this one has so many ear-candy moments, and you noticed them all! Matt's bouncy bass line, the splitting of the tune among 3 singers in succession (each at just the right town), Kevin's spot-on beatboxing throughout, the varying of the song with extra countermelodies or counter-duets, the magnificent chromatic descent, and the half-time effect near the end. Sheer arranging genius. Thanks for giving it the appreciation it deserves.

I would love to watch your reaction to some of their originals! My personal favorite is "Can't Sleep Love" - but the live version from Popspring, well-mic'd and you get Mitch doing the rap that is missing from the official video and was done by Tink in the studio version. The did three originals plus Evolution of Michael Jackson that night - the last one is "Water" written and lead by Kirstie, no official video for that one and a great showpiece for her voice. Thanks for continuing to give us thoughtful analysis on PTX songs - I look forward to them!

Watch their pop spring performance from 2016. It's live and has 3 originals and their evolution of Michael Jackson. It's about 15 minutes long and the sound is perfect. Also love again is an awesome original that they did early on with a video that's really cool.

I came across PTX due to their covers, but was so pleasantly suprised to discover, they have originals as well. I think they are unique in the acapella world because of it. And I love their original songs just as much (if not more) as their renditions (which are most of the time not just covers, but upgrades). I remember my first time listening to Can't sleep love, which I instantly fall in love with - I assumed it was a cover of a song I was just not familiar with (because, well... you know, it's acapella, so you always assume that), only to discover later on, it is their original song. And I was blown away how good they are at writing their own music. And that was the moment when I became a full time Pentaholic 😉

Oh, you HAVE to listen to their originals. If you're only listening to covers you're not getting the full spectrum of what PTX is capable of. Love Again and Can't Sleep Love are two of my favorites, but they've got Sing, Run to You, Take Me Home, Cracked, Light in the Hallway, That's Christmas to Me, Thank You, Be My Eyes, Happy Now, Water, and I'm sure there's more that I can't think of right now. Kirstie wrote Be My Eyes and Water, Scott wrote Light in the Hallway with a little help from Mitch and cowrote Thank You with his boyfriend, and I don't know which combination of members wrote the rest.

I am usually not familiar with the originals of the songs they cover, so often I will go seek them out. I always prefer what PTX does with the songs. One I'd recommend checking is "Gold" by Kiara. I listened to that and wondered why they even thought about covering it, but then I am old and don't get the whole electronic thing. Their cover is a favorite of mine. You might consider a comparison on that one. Best wishes for your new year.

Yeah there’s plenty of good singers out there, but look and see how many males can -A. Sing the bass and falsetto parts like Scott can, his range is massive... or B. Can hit notes as high as Mitch! Very few I’ll tell ya lol

That was just mean, teasing that walking chord in the intro, lol. I was thinking about Kevin's beatbox, and I realized that they use the bass to add extra weight to Kevin's beats because the average ear will tend to lump the two together. Especially if you look back at earlier stuff, there were a lot of times where you could hear Kevin and Avi partially synchronized. Such a smart use of a small number of voices to create much bigger sound.
