My mom's an atheist, she grew up in a Catholic house but lost her faith over the years for her own reasons. I asked her once why we don't go to church and she simply said that she doesn't believe in it so she never thought to take me. I was invited by the neighborhood kids to go to Sunday school once. I don't know where folks get the idea that atheist parents shelter their kids from religion because when I asked if it was okay, she instantly said it was, I was just responsible for getting myself up at the crack of dawn, which was fair since I knew how to set an alarm and got myself up for school a lot. I think giving kids the option to explore their faith makes them less likely to use it as a rebellious outlet later down the line.

"I don't know where folks get the idea that atheist parents shelter their kids from religion..." Maybe because atheism isn't new? There have been children who are sheltered from religion despite their curiosity. It's not extremely common, but it is something that does happen sometimes. You cannot just dismiss it altogether because of YOUR situation. That is confirmation bias and is not at ALL a relevant source. I'm glad your mother was kind enough to allow you to go to Sunday school. Is your mother also the mother of every other child who grew up with atheist parents? Probably not, right? So maybe don't use her as an example of something that "doesn't happen" (when it quite literally does happen every now and again).

i liked the sound of that gen z church, if they take out the things a lot of us see alongside religion (homophobia, sexism etc) it would be great. i’m not religious, but i know that what a lot of people think god said is wrong
@TiredSnowBerry6 ай бұрын
100% true. People have used religion to justify their hate and their horrible deeds since religion even became a thing. The colonists claimed it was their "God given right" when they raped and slaughtered the Native Americans, and the church used to preach that you'd go to hell if you freed a black slave. It's such a shame, because the bible genuinely has great stories and teaches good values if you look in the right places, but I just can't trust it because how many have used its influence to commit the most disgusting of acts.

She's not nervous. She's been doing public speaking engagements like that and speaking to mega churches for over a decade and it has ALWAYS sounded like that, except now she does the appropriation thing with her dialect and especially since she started her "spiritual gangsta" era. That's just her. She's awful.

@sheriarmstrong39686 ай бұрын
yeah for real, as a child my mom read me bible stories and taught me to pray (christianity btw) and i would go to church with friends sometimes but my mom didnt. one night when i was like 6 i asked my mom if we didn’t read bible stories anymore because i didnt like them and she agreed. her giving me the opportunity to form my own opinion definitely helped me in the long run. 😊

I'm a member of a progressive Christian congregation that saved my life in my faith journey. When I initially started going to that church, I was just pansexual, something I could keep hidden easily at my childhood church. When I learned a few years later that I was nonbinary, I was at my current church and it made me feel like God made me right, and not like I was going against Them or rebelling against my faith. I felt welcomed there and still do. I'm a very faithful person, which to the woman who gave me bible pamphlets after I cashed her out last week might find hard to believe, y'know, with my pronouns on my nametag and all. At least she wasn't talking faith, and she was actually a super kind happy person. She gave me those right as she was leaving. If I see her again, if she asks about those papers, I'll tell her a quick version of my story.

I'm not convinced gen z is turning to religion. Numerous polls show they're not. But as long as they're not pushing bigotry and anti science misinformation, it's fine. That's my main annoyance about religion

As a Christian, he nailed this fucking video. The part when he was talking about the mega church never having a cool pastor collab is so real lol. Imo I think gen Z is realizing and acknowledging the evolution in culture unlike some toxic church culture we grew up. Hope he follows the trend ☮︎
