This has to be one of the most clearly explained videos on how to do this type of work. Everything was so clear and precise. Even the bit where you say to stop for tea 😂 that’s my type of video. Excellent job 👍

Thanks. Injectors can be a problem with these, but easy to change or clean. Another big thing with these is underbody rust, especially around critical chassis points at the rear. I had rust holes on the sills, welded those and all the other areas had to be rubbed down to metal, treated/protected. Great car, getting 65-72 mpg with mine driving extremely frugally - 'amazing' :-)

Im pretty sure this is the attention my old girl needs from her mechanic. Alas, no such luck. I wish I had these tools!! Makes so much sense all you are showing; so hecking cool. You dont fix Jags by any chance??!! 😢😂

Small 1/4" Socket sets are very cheap to buy and well worth the investment. I'm sure watching this video you can give you the confidence to do it just like I did. It doesn't matter if it takes you a week to do it as nobody is watching :-)

Many thanks, will do some more Jag videos as and when. Yes I also love this car, it does handle well for the weight. My next job on her is to strip and paint underneath as the sills can be susceptible to rust sooner than most and I also need to do the brakes so watch out for those videos :-)

Dear Harvey, first of all I would like to thank you for your wonderfully detailed videos. Unfortunately, I have a problem with my X-Type 2.2 TDCI, built in 2005 (which now has an impressive 350,000 kilometers) and thought that you, as a professional, could perhaps give me a tip. I had a loss of performance about 4 months ago. After reading it via OBD I got the following error messages: P0401 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient detected, P0403 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit and P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit Low. I thought it had to do with the EGR valve and after watching your great video, I replaced the valve with a new one according to your instructions and cleaned everything like in your video. After the replacement I cleared the error codes and thought everything was fine again. But now it shows me the following errors: P0235 Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor A Circuit and again P0403 and P0405. The turbo no longer intervenes and the car only drives like a normal diesel. Is it possible that a sensor is broken somewhere and that's why I'm seeing these errors? In addition, from 1500 RPM to 2000 the engine starts to stutter when accelerating lightly, but it doesn't do this at full throttle. Do you have any idea what could be causing all these error messages? Thank you in advance for reading all of this and perhaps being able to help me. Kind regards, Norbert

The 2.2 has variable vain turbo so that may need servicing as they can jamb up. There also maybe oil at the lowest point within the intercooler pipe system, leaked from the turbo which links to the egr. Check for oil and service the turbo and see what happens! With the engine not idling well look to service/change the injectors. I have a video on cleaning the injectors :-)

Great job! I enjoyed watching it and compared removing the intake of a diesel with removing the intake of my V6 Jag. I should definitely film it in the near future!

@@HatBoyHarvey Cheers! My Jag is 2.1 V6 with an intake manifold of a different design, it gives enough room to replace spark plugs without removing it. But the gasket seals really need checking.

cool, I was thinking of the 3.0 engines. What is the power of the 2.1, are they any good?

@@HatBoyHarvey The power of 2.1 is about 150 HP, but they are a bit underpowered for a heavy car of 1.5 tons in weight. Nevertheless, V6 is still very smooth and comfortable, it delivers a torque similar to a diesel - from the very beginning. You can accelerate from idling and it spares you from changing gears too often when driving in the city. But when on a highway you should keep in mind that its just a 2.1 🙂

Mines been doing exactly the same, i do have my egr blanked off but when i start mine it does what yours did and then my battery dies and its a new battery. will have to give mine a clean

My story so far is that the EGR clean didn't stop the engine dying and I haven't fixed it yet. Done a OBD check and have low fuel pressure. Will post a video when I get it going again - hopefully ;-)

@@HatBoyHarvey I'm going to give mine a clean just incase, plus better to do it than not. I had my car in the garage last week and they couldn't find anything that was causing the battery to drain, so hopefully it's just the egr needs cleaning as I've read online that a EGR valve that gets stuck open will drain power. But good luck with you car. Hopefully you get it sorted. But your video was very helpful so will definitely come in handy.

I used this video as a reference, like you it didn't cure it and I couldn't start it. I have since put it into the garage and it was a cam angle sensor. (CAS). Runs sweet as a nut now.

Thanks for that. mine isn't a sensor related unfortunately, but I've almost fixed this issue and will make a video of it as it has been a long drawn out problem with more than one issue that will soon hopefully be sorted :-)

Inlet manifold bolts: 15Nm, EGR cooler to exhaust manifold bolts: 37Nm

Yep, that's a great thing to have right? Something we are all trying to support. Recirculation sounds pointless to me, why would you want to do that?

Guess what I'm doing Saturday... 😳 Did it run better afterwards? I'm doing all what u did, plus changing the intercooler pipe for a silicone one, due to a split. It's causing black smoke out the back, so clearly the issue.

Good luck with this weekend. Replacing a split intercooler pipe will help enormously as I had to do that 5 years ago. No mine didn't run any better, no change. My fault continued and eventually stopped. Sadly it has been stationary since as I haven't had time for another attempt to get it going again. Did a diagnostic check to find low fuel pressure which could be a number of things, so will go through methodically. Change the fuel rail sensor etc ;-(

I was indeed looking for this... My 2.0 jag has been making alot of smoke... And the MOT failed it... Now im just looking for the cause... The car starts amazing... It does have a bit of a rough work but the idle stays on the spot bellow 1000rpm (im thinkin its 800 or 900rpm) and it doesnt shake or anythin... It also has power... And boy oh boy if i put my foot down the thing goes... But also leaves a black cloud behind for a bit... So ive just been looking for solutions... Ive been doing longer drives... Higher rpms to see if it did better... But it hasnt... Now im going to do this and also check the intercooler pipes as ive heard they are a common thing...

@@HatBoyHarvey update: currently working on it... I also have to remove the crank pulley of the Vbelt... Its busted... I dont have the tool for the tensioner tho... Is there an alternative so i can loosen the belt to remove the pulley?

​@@HatBoyHarvey Update2: its all clean... It wasnt that bad actually... But its good now... Egr is opening and closing... I felt no vacuum leaks... Seems fine... I hope is not worse... Now to do the pulley and the Vbelt

So... i think the egr valve might be faulty... i was coming home after doing everything to the jaaag... and the intercooler pipe popped off under the valve after i stepped on it for a bit... did i just not tighten it up enough or is the valve probably faulty now thats the question...

@@HatBoyHarvey welp... Found the issue for the black smoke... Injectors were putting out too much fuel... They are currently being repaired for the right ammount...

Was the car in limp mode? What was de fault code?

Not on this occasion, but later when I found an injector failed it did, now sorted with new injector, but at the time I cleaned the EGR and manifold it was still working OK and no limp mode, codes or lights. Later it started to not start again, dash engine light and glowplug light with limp mode restricting revs. Can't remember the fault codes, but before I cleaned the injectors in another video I had P2291. That went away after injector clean, but I then got the code for an injector short.

Have you ever tried those orange " tiger brand" protective gloves, they're admittedly more expensive than your bin liner ones, BUT I use my orange ones 2-3 times before they split....

2 I’ve used and been impressed with are grippaz and black mamba from toolstation, not cheap but they do last and tbh I only use a box a year so not that bad.

Hi anybody know how to take off bottom right turbo hose/pipe on x type.while i was taking the hose which attaches to egr .I managed to drop 10mm socket through hose pipe or shall leave it inside Any help will be appreciated

Sorry for the late reply. Yes got the socket out. had to remove front bumper to get to the bottom left hose connected to inter cooler.would not recommend droping a socket down the hose lol😂

No, the starting issue is related to something else that I haven't had the time to put my finger on yet as I don't have OBD2 software to help with the diagnosis for this vehicle yet. I've only looked/tested the cam and crank sensors so far and looked at a few fuses.

@@HatBoyHarvey Rough idle = Alternator problems, at least that what it did for me, Now I have black smoke and I'm cleaning the manifold, which is why I'm here hahahaha

se pare că ai o problemă cu motorul turbo. decuplați brațul de comandă pentru a vedea dacă se mișcă liber înainte și înapoi aproximativ 50 mm, dacă nu, atunci turbovanele variabile vor fi înfundate și vor avea nevoie de curățare. Dacă servomotorul este defect, acesta poate fi reparat/recondiționat. dacă nu faci nimic, mașina va intra în cele din urmă în modul limp.

Should have blocked off the egr,stop all that filth doing back into the engine,also causes the turbo vanes to seize up ,ruining performance, first job if you have one of these engines,easy job.
