It's amazing how far automotive paint science has come, and I could watch videos about it all day. I have a BMW in Mediterranean blue (C10) and it flips to a mattish purple color in certain lights that looks really cool.

I would offer that this Jag is going to be one of his finest cars in the collection when done. Rebuilt engine, straightened body and gorgeous (really) paint, all administered by people who know and care. Fantastic stuff all round, cannot wait to see this car driven down the road..

If the communication matches the content, it is fine. But British people are no more of saints than any other people, so I prefer the Dutch directness. Just say what you mean to say, honestly. But, respect for the cultural difference. As a Dutchman I find the fine-tuned communication with British people difficult. I never know what they actually mean to say.

You inadvertently pointed out one of my major frustrations with those car configurators. The colors NEVER look like that in real life. It's always enhanced with photoshop or something like it to make it pop on your screen and make you pay the extra thousand for the really nice looking color. I've been railed for doing this with my architecture renders and I wish someone would rail the car companies for essentially lying about how the paint will really look on the car in the real world.

I’m not being funny mate but a car with a bit of rot isn’t a problem, what are you expecting? The thing to disintegrate under braking? Mot checks all structural points of concern, anything extra won’t have any significant effect.

The Aston Martin flip from brown to green is spot on, covers two of the main colours of the BL era in the 70’s... if it could flip blue as well you have the BL trinity 👍

Well this is an old British Leyland product and Lancia's are going to be Lancia's so these two aren't the best torch carriers for the hobby... People are starting to look back at cars from the 1990's now so there's lots of cars to choose form! Don't loose faith!

Excellent customer he is, no cutting corners, no 'negotiating' on the price, quality, fit and finish are his main priorities and the restorers are ensuring that those principles are being very precisely met, I can imagine this Jag is going to be literally 'pornographic' once it's finished to spec. Great video as always HARRY. The Jag is very rusty, I believe it's easier to restore a genuinely rusty car that hasn't had previous repairs than to repair someone else's bodged repairs. I shudder to think what the final cost for the finished car will be but seeing Harry's commitment, I think the end result will be magnificent.

@@odinikita4821 I am a long time Jag enthusiast, club member and President, have visited Brown's Lane and chatted with people who designed and built these great cars. "It's just a Jaguar" is an appreciate quote. Some of the stories they told me just made me wince. And I have an XJ6 and XJ6 awaiting restoration by me and I shudder at what lies ahead. And this car lived in England, a recipe for disaster for old Jags. But I have seen much more rusty Jags from there. People where I live would run away screaming!

Sometimes it’s better to buy a classic where you see what your getting into, unless a car your buying has photos to prove what’s been done, shinny paint can hide lots of surprises from mundane classics to hi end stuff.

I completely rebuilt a 1972 MGB. When I stripped the body down I found the same hidden rust spots all over the place. Surprise! It is so worth all the effort to fix them and bring them back. Those inexperienced may really be shocked by the process. Thanks for showing all the dirty details.

I always prefer a car finished in one of the manufacturer-offered colours from the period. Anything else just looks wrong to me. Second request please, Harry, to test the Vanquish S with the Works manual conversion that Hairpin currently have for sale. Thanks!

Probably sad but I just loved this video. Lots of detail, I was aware of this colour matching process, but not the finer points, really clever stuff. Having owned a ‘76 XJ back in the day (lovely car appalling build quality) I’m very familiar them, kept it on the road of 6 years, became a battle of wills - me vs the car! This era of Jag rot and break for a pass time, nothing here would have been a surprise, could have been far worse believe me. The issue is really budget, I’m sure Harry will stick with it as everyone knows these things eat money, the upside is that properly rebuilt with all the weak areas upgraded this will be a truly magnificent car. Love the colour by the way, perfect for the car.

My Dads best mate had a pastel lavender XJ6C, of course with black vinyl topping. I had near new '76 12C in regency red [sunlighted=red, overcast=burgundy] while other club members had various, but nothing like, ahem this. I advocated non-metallic in prior episode. In a resto-mod fashion era it will look epic.
