My way of getting out of conversations is saying “well, I should get back to it! I hope you have a good rest of your day, see you later!” It tells the other person that you have something else you need to do, but is vague so you don’t have to come up with an actual excuse to leave, and quickly following up with “I hope you have a good day” will put them in the position to not ask what you gotta do and also wish you a good day, forcing them to say goodbye to you too. It’s perfect, it’s never failed me!

I combine the "perfect bite"TM with the "perfect meal"TM where I eat the thing I dislike the most on the plate first, perfect bite style, then the middle looking thing, then end on the best food. So if I had a Rib platter with loaded mashed potatoes and asparagus, I'd eat all of the asparagus, leaving the best seasoned ones for the end, then mashed potatoes avoiding the toppings until the end, then split all the ribs and leaving the most juicy/seasoned and often the one with the most meat for last

I HAVE to eat the smallest to biggest or the other way around. Example, if I have a bowl of chips I have to eat the smallest to biggest chip or the biggest to smallest chip because if I don’t then I will spontaneously combust. And if someone messes up that pattern, I will shove a gvn down their throat. THATS HOW ITS ALWAYS BEEN. Also if I eat a sandwich or a quesadilla or something, I have to make it even. I can’t just eat it like a normal person

I for one completely sympathize with The Perfect Bite TM. Whenever I eat I tend to eat the smaller bits or around the best parts of the meal, or even eat a sandwich or burger around the center and save that for last. Then whenever you're taking that last bite it's the best part with everything you want in the flavor. The only exception is I eat all my sides before I eat the main course of the meal, like eat all the veggies and potatoes before eating any of a steak. You are not alone in this Jaiden, you have my support.

My aunt is famous for buying random toys at the store if they "look lonely". 🥺 Like, once there was this stuffed snowman toy that was all alone because it was obviously forgotten on the shelf months ago by the workers who had cleared out the winter stuff. So she bought it. There are many stories like this, except replace snowman toy with a rabbit toy, a pumpkin doll with a happy face, another snowman except this one was obviously the plastic top to a tube of candy that someone had taken apart and eaten in the store. She literally brought it to the check out to buy it, because she didn't want to steal it 😂 They were like, "Um. Nah. It's cool lady. This is pretty much trash. Here ya go!" She was well over 30 when she did all this, btw. 😆 So you're definitely not the only grown up who does stuff like that.

I do something similar to the Perfect Bite™ but I figure out what would be the best leftovers and what would be the worst. For example, I'm eating breakfast potatoes and pancakes. I know that fried potatoes are terrible leftover. Pancakes are the best. I eat potatoes first and pancakes last to make it the Perfect Leftovers™.

Speaking as an adult (coff boomer coff), all I can say is that society has made a cliche out of what it means to be an adult. Creative people gotta do creative things, we gotta play, we gotta be a bit silly sometimes, we gotta procrastinate doing 'adulty' things like taxes... no matter our age. I wanted to collect dragon figurines and cos I'm an adult I could afford to do that. I now have about 20 of them. I just want to be my OWN type of adult, not what someone else expects me to be.

I totally agree. I think "being an adult" has more to do with HOW you do something rather than WHAT you do. Being an adult isn't "not buying action figures" it's "budgeting food, rent and other expenses and then buying action figures". In the case with Jaiden, having plastic mini dinosaurs all over the floor would be acting like a child, but putting them in specific places with purpose and intention is acting like an adult.

Damn I came to the comments after the perfect bite part. I used to think I was the only one who did it until I was like 21 and ended up in an inpatient unit. Turns out compulsive eating patterns are usually part of an ED. Im 30 now and so happy and healthy but I will always be navigating compulsions and risk factors. However now the perfect bite technique isn’t because of restricting but now a great source of joy.
