Great vid, I've been to Jakarta a few times, remember dancing on the streets of the backpacker section of Jakarta when a band were shooting their video, then seeing myself drunkenly dancing on MTV Asia a few weeks later, happy days :)

I thought the same up until I first came here in May of 2005..Great city, friendly people, some stunning looking women unlike what you'll see in Thailand or Thr Philippines. And apart from two years I spent in my home city of Melbourne Australia during the recent covid situation , I've been here on and off ( mainly on ) for the last 18.5 years. Oh, and so incredibly cheap compared to back home in good old ' Oz '

Aaah great to see you took my advice to visit the Tanah Abang mall. You can literally get lost there. So many tiny shops. You take a couple of left turns, and before you know it, the exit is nowhere to be seen 😅

Another great video. Question i see for hotels you recommend "Agoda" i have been looking at locations on agoda and have found them to be very "pricey" in terms of their "added taxes and charges " equalling rougly 20 % of the actual price. How do you account for that extra cost?

Thx James. Also for bringing up a valid caution to always check any 'extra fees' as is becoming norm (frustratingly) on many booking sites. In this case, $18 becomes $21.60 after taxes (still a fantastic bargain imho). However, should I factor local and other taxes into every price first? Also for restaurant prices, entrance fees, drinks, parks and on and on? On that note, should all restaurants, Parks, Museums, Cars for sale ads, House prices, etc etc etc be made to show not the stated or desired price but rather the price after local and other applicable taxes? I suppose most would prefer to see the final price all in, with whatever local & other taxes etc. In that case we better get changing from 'Burger Special $4.99' to $5.48 and across industries. Fine by me but could take some time.

The daily rate ($16) was from AirBnb/ Monthly rate was based on 12 months I believe, however, note they also indicate 3 months is possible - example: "For Rent Cosmo Terrace Apartment 2 Bedrooms Fully Furnished US $ 500 per Month or US $1200 for Three Months" www.jakarta-apartment.net/category/apartment/cosmo-terrace/ Edit to add, note you guys have a YT channel, will have a look! The ads say from 4.6 mil/month but I suspect that's for a typical 12 month deal. There was one ad stating 3 months however, so perhaps can negotiate? Regardless, the usual rule of thumb is the longer the term the better the prices.
