I have been making this for years and love this. It was originally called "Lazy Wife Cobbler" in the 1940's and 50's. I sometimes use blackberries or apples instead of peaches. You can choose your fruit choice and tweak it the way you like it. I use 1 stick of real butter (instead of half) so the extra soaks into the dough. I differ a little because I put the seasoning into the fruit while I cook it making sure to season the peaches first. You can use the cinnamon and just a little nutmeg (or apple pie seasoning which includes a little cloves too) or simply use cinnamon. You decide. Additionally, I sprinkle sugar with cinnamon on top as it bakes a little. If I am doing blackberry I use sugar only and none of the cinnamon nutmeg or cloves. You CAN use firmly packed brown sugar in any of the cobblers or half white, half white sugar. Again, you decide. I sprinkle sugar (only) on top of the blackberry cobbler. I omit the cinnamon and nutmeg in the blackberry cobbler. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on your warm cobbler for an extra impact. YUMMY!

My Mom starting making this when I was a child. I'm 67 now and still make it. It's great with blackberries. I don't add all of the juice I spoon it over the cobbler when I serve it.

any good Georgian will tell ya mix 1c sugar 1c self rising flour 1c milk everything else is the same just dump in the peaches (big can of peaches work in a tight) and if you like me try to eat the whole pan before anyone knows its there

you are too kind. I totally respect your knowledge of cooking. I really thing this recipe is one of my favorite lazy man recipes. I love the fact that this version absorbs the peach syrup into all of the crust, unlike regular cobblers.

Great way to make a cobbler. I learned this one about 49 years ago from my favorite mother-in-law, and use any number of fruits and berries to include the peaches, black berries, rasp berries, pineapple, etc. Always turns out good with no left overs.

Jack, thanks for sharing. I saw another example of this a while ago, but couldn't find it again. I recently saw yours, and it was straight forward. I ended up using some buttermilk and all purpose flour with added baking powder, cane sugar, and sea salt. Looks good in the oven and I'm looking forward to the results. Thanks again.

Jack I made this recipe this past Saturday. I didn't use fresh peaches...I used the canned peach cobbler from Dollar Tree. Which made it even more lazier. I was unable take a pic of it..it came out amazing in looks as well as taste. I had it cooling on the counter in the kitchen and when I came down stairs to check on it...it was only a corner left! They ate it!!!! I am gonna try using apples this time.
@hairballjones84512 жыл бұрын
Well you have inspired me - let me tell you how I tweaked around the basic recipe- used canned peaches, left part of the juices on, next the 1 c brown sugar, didn't have bisquik so Pioneer brand also 1 c, then instead of regulat milk used 1/2 c powdered milk from my last commodity box, one of the few blessings of age, I receive a commodity box from my senior center monthly. Few things I can't use go to others that are in need, now top it? I packet of crushed cinnamon Graham crackers. Over it all I drizzle 1 stick of melted butter, another item from monthly box. Bake at 350 until it looks all nicely golden, maybe a half hour? And it tastes real fine to me! I used my square 9 inch Pyrex ( well actually Anchor Hocking- i live zbout 40miles from Lancaster where they are made) makes it nice and thick that way,
@HtySu4 жыл бұрын
I tried this at 4pm but I tweaked it. I made mine with more juice in the peaches and put cinnamon and nutmeg in it while it was boiling. I doubled everything except the sugar to boil them in. I used a 4qt Dutch oven. No self rising flour so I went to another site to make a substitute. Thank you to everyone. It's delicious.

+elviejoinez I usually don't use all of the liquid, but, it really depends on how much juice you like. I use frozen peaches from Walmart so I don't use as much water as the recipe calls for. I use 2 bags of frozen peaches. I also add cinnamon sugar to my flour. Deelish! I posted it on his Facebook page. Different name as this one, though.
