Ice on a boat is no joke. Makes her very unstable and even more topheavy than she already is. Boat could flip over before you even realize you're in trouble. Ice is what killed Destination and Scandies Rose. Having it on the deck is just as bad as having water in the hull, both will kill you very fast unless you stay one step ahead of it and prevent it from getting too bad.

Why don't they pump hot engine water through the railing? If it has nowhere to form it shouldn't crystallise and grow? If that's to risky have a heat exchanger to utilise a separate system for isolation.
@denali94492 жыл бұрын
Try to calculate the volume of water required to keep all the rails above freezing. A CAT D398 in marine use has about 40 to 50 gallons of cooling water in a closed loop system, not nearly enough to meet the demand. And then what do we do about the ice in the rigging, on the house and other surfaces?
