yes oli's video is extremely tone deaf and leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but i'm more pissed at the corporation for spending their money on this brand deal instead of paying their workers more. again, oli is still at fault for accepting the deal, but i don't think mcdonald's should have fostered this in the first place

It's so gross to me, literally a commercial seeking out impressionable Tiktok teens to give their innocence to the meat grinder that is working at McDonald's by making it look easy and lying about how useful the skills you learn will be. No doubt this guy knows 1000% what he's doing, so I don't give him a pass being a part of that scheme, but obviously it's the restaurant that made it happen.

i worked at mcdonalds for about 3 weeks last year. heres a few fun little facts about my experience there. -everyone misgendered me. not even just the customers. all the employees (except 1 he was so chill) and both my managers. -speaking of which, my managers were blatantly transphobic and gave me a female outfit and told me to use the female washrooms knowing i was trans -on my first day, they put me on fries before they taught me how to do fries. on rush hour. in the most popular location in a busy city. i was 14 btw -my coworkers did not listen to any instructions and never taught me anything when the managers asked, so i kinda just had to learn everything by watching others. -they barely clean the ice cream machine (at that location anyway, i dont speak for other locations) -i ended up having multiple panic attacks per day because of all of the above so i decided to quit after a few weeks. my manager proceeded to yell at me (yes, she YELLED at me.) and tell me that i was unprofessional and couldnt keep a job. anyway guys mcdonalds is such a great place to work 10/10 do recommend best job of my life. shoutout to ben tho he was a real og

i'm so sorry that happened to you. i'm trans too, so i know how soul-crushing it is to constantly be misgendered. companies like mcdonalds hardly ever have any universal anti-discrimination policies for their managers. one of my trans friends worked at mcds for 3 years & while she hated the work itself, the manager there was very accepting & actively tried to make the environment inclusive. that SHOULD be the company standard for every location, but ofc mcd's don't care about worker health & safety. it's awful that us trans ppl have to deal with so much garbage in the job market. i hope you're in a better place now 💛🏳️‍⚧️

As someone who works at Taco Bell. I can say it is not worth the $14 (below minimum wage) that i make. Granted I have learned to become more patient with fast food workers and now have more empathy towards them. But it is so not worth it for a life long career. Customers are horrible and half of them think they are entitled to their food and that we should bend over backwards for them so their every need is met. I’m sorry Sharon but I have 10 more orders to take and make and get out so I will not worry about the state of your taco. You are going to eat it anyways.

minimum wage in the uk is £9.50 / $11.10, so it's better than most of the usa, but the uk is experiencing a cost of living crisis atm so most of these low wage workers are still struggling to afford basic necessities like, y'know, a roof over their head & indoor heating. therefore, oli's video is like, extra insensitive lol. he's getting paid thousands of pounds for this mcd propaganda piece while most of the workers won't afford heating this winter ..... yikes.

Not a single individual thing you have to do at McD's, at any station, can't be done easily and without a lot of thought or effort. But what you really can't capture here is the soul-crushing vibe. The way they're run, what it feels like to be in that hot kitchen all day sweating over burgers, dealing with angry customers and tense interactions, trying to clean a half-full lobby while also being attentive to the registers, making sure every little thing you need to be checking on gets dealt with all through the day. Then you're in 5 days a week to do it again, but your hours keep changing and you have to check the schedule every week, can't plan any kind of life event because getting time off is super inconsistent and you're forced to call around until you can get someone to take your shift. And you may not have 'weekends' because your days off are scattered, often you're not given 8 hour shifts so they're not even limited to putting you on the floor more than five days in a row. And PTO? Getting paid to not work? Impossible. It's rarely too much to handle in any given moment, but the absolute tedium, the repetitive strain and the ceaseless torment of having to be constantly on the grind to keep the paychecks flowing, it's hard to get much positive out of that except respect for the people who remain forced to exist in that paradigm.

Using gloves or bare hands doesn't really make a difference! Gloves are practical if you're doing multiple tasks and won't have time to wash your hands in-between but other than that gloved hands are as sanitary as washed hands

i currently work in fast food and i garuntee you every worker turned on their customer service voice when he was around, they probably got a talk about how to act around him too. it is a sponsorship after all... and i bet it was miserable. i would fight so many urges to tell him off. side note: i also wonder if the kitchen is actually that squeaky clean or if they treated him like an audit

If you do get to be a part of a class action law suit, I worked for a big pet store, ends in co, and was a part of multiple class action law suits. You get a check like 5 years later LOL just got mine for $68 a few months this ago for them overworking us!

$68 after 5 years?? that sucks. i've always disliked petco bc of their abysmal pet care standards & bc of how overworked the employees are. i've never seen a petco employee who didn't look dead inside. i hope you're doing better now 💛

chipotle definitely doesnt care about their employees. i definitely didnt have broken knees but when I worked there during my summer home from college I would get there hella early to start bagging chips for the day, supposed to get my break before the store opened but if I hadnt finished bagging all the chips in time before opening they would make me skip my break & I would have to work through my whole shift without one. - also them not using gloves to prepare the big mac is sending me.......

If this man walked I to my old job at Wendy's, where they treated their minor workers like absolute dog shit, made them feel like their education was a bad idea and they shouldn't care about their physical or mental health, if this man walked in. I would've been fired on the spot because I would've cussed this man out and dunked his camera in the fryer.

This kind of reminds me of when the big wigs from the company I used to work for would come into the stores to film their monthly propaganda things about how great the company was doing. They’d set up in the middle of one of the main aisles and you’d constantly see customers and employees giving the cameras interesting looks in the background. They came to one of the stores I worked at and oh man people were tripping over themselves to try to make things look perfect. The next night I got to hear people complaining about how annoying it was and how they were in the way constantly.

Don’t know this guy but I don’t like his attitude. I worked at sonic drive-in a little while back and I feel those workers pain. It’s sucks. You get under payed and overworked. I remember one day, 3 people called in and it ended up being me and the manager for like 5 hours out of the day until someone else came to help. The worst day possible. So this guy makes me mad because he doesn’t care and he should actually try and work full time at McDonald’s and see how he feels.

This is true and mostly just an issue of "my specific workplace is not equipped to handle the amount of customers we get with our current infrastructure which is quite unfortunate considering we are a university dining hall and also we don't have enough employees probably because the pay is bad and we're not unionized (yet) and really the only people sticking around are doing so because they feel guilty leaving the rest of us and also all the students on a meal plan who rely on the dining halls to get food and good lord we need to unionize".
