Hi Jake, thanks for posting this. Great to see your sketchbooks as always. You kind of touch on that balance you need to have with sketchbooks - between them being full of good, considered work, and of being chock full of ideas, concepts and prompts. It's something I struggle with a lot, but battling away. Thanks again. Rob

Not sure if you caught it, but it looks like someone at Marvel liked your Hutt idea (or maybe had a similar idea). They introduced a new Hutt with centipede-like robot legs that help him move around. I saw it and immediately thought "Jake Parker"!
@jakeparker448 жыл бұрын
+Wyatt The Nerd Yeah, I saw that. AND there was a rancor-like monster with a cyborg arm, another idea of mine. But here's the thing: A) Are the ideas REALLY that original? Are they something that could be thought of by two creative minds thinking about the same property? Pretty much. B) Let's say they're surfing the internet looking for ideas for "inspiration." That's cool, because all is fair in the world of fan art. If on the one hand I'm selling a ton of prints I drew with Marvel characters, I can't get upset if on the other hand they take ideas of mine from some fan art I drew and use them for their comics. It's all good. And kind of cool. I like to think I had a little influence on the guys making star wars stuff. But in reality, I just think it's coincidence.
@Wyattoons8 жыл бұрын
+Jake Parker Oh yeah, coincidental thinking happens from time to time. Didn't mean to sound like I was accusing them of ripping you off. It may have been just coincidental thinking, but I too like to think you had an influence so in my mind that's a Jake Parker style story. :)

Hey Jake, barely saw this and noticed the Jabba with robot legs. You said they should do it and they have. BTW, why do you not use graphite when sketching before inking? It seems like you mostly use orange or light blue colored pencils instead (and they are quite difficult to see on the screen)? Is there any drawing technical advantages by doing so?

So Jake, I've found your channel very recently and watched some videos and I believe you have more than enough experience to be able to help me out, the thing is, lately I have been feeling that I'm stuck, like I always come up with ideas of things to draw but I just don't have the skill to portray them the way I imagine them, so I have to practice right? But, when I practice, I feel very little (if any) progress has been done, no matter how much I follow a tutorial/lesson, and that makes me feel like this whole art thing isn't really my thing, like no matter how much I practice I'll never be good enough to draw what I want the way I want, so I'm not really sure where I should go from here, like, what do I need to do to get out of this situation?

+jake parker what job do you have and i need some tips i have been doing art videos myself. i have been inspired by you and steve harpster thanks, tony herring
@jakeparker449 жыл бұрын
+Tony Herring I work as an illustrator and cartoonist. I illustrate picture books, and I draw comics, and from time to time I also teach people how to do those things, too. My advice is to get good at drawing anything and everything. If you can draw well, there's a lot of opportunity out there for you.
@davindersinghcheema9108 жыл бұрын
why do you draw with blue or red pencils
@edenwhytte6468 жыл бұрын
they are good mediums to start with. Prismacolor is highly suggested. anyway, it is nice because you can have a messy start but soon layer it with a clean one. the colors are also nice because i usually cant color on normal pencils because they sort of shine a lot.
