you really have to read in between the lines and with that im not even sure what he means exactly. but this is what i got from it: he means that he could follow Kerr quite easily but couldnt pass him, but since it was his first race of the year and he is still in training and at the start of his build up, he thinks that he has more room to improve than Kerr and that will make him the favorite in Paris.
@tquasa074 ай бұрын
It didn't look like he had more to give, not at the end at least. If he had tried, Kerr probably would have dug enough to win, and it wouldn't have benefitted JI
@joowsty4 ай бұрын
@@tquasa07 yes thats what i meant he couldnt make an extra effort, but i think he did mean that because of this being his first race and being amids heavy training he meant that because he could stay right behind Kerr it means that when he is on top form he will have that extra's to pass Kerr (or stay in front of him in a different race strategy.
@sp4rky4704 ай бұрын
@@tquasa07no one’s saying that he had more to give. Jakob’s argument is that they are both at very different points of fitness in their seasons; Jakob has far more to build off of with it being his first race

4:35 'Some of my competitors have clearly taken a step in the right direction, but not a big step'. It seems like Jakob is excited about finally having to race and not be the pacemaker for once. It must be unusual for him, but I love to see that he still thinks he's the man to beat, it's exciting for the sport. He's being a cheeky sod and that's what we love to see.

Are we hating Jacob because we all want his confidence? Man came from a 9 months break and puts on a show and here we are calling him a sore loser. Name any other world class athlete who came back from an injury and threw down a world class performance in the last 10 years in track and field.

The point is, the Pre is not the Olympics but a race to gauge how effective training for the Olympics is going. But not intended as THE race. Kerr even said in his interview, "I was not supposed to go with 600 to go", implying he ignored his coach and his training plan and showed his hand. That was Kerr best effort. For training to be effective, the person training must be patient and stick to the plan. Jacob's point was he is following a plan to peak at the Olympics, not in Oregon in May. His point was he stuck to the plan. Kerr allowed his ego to derail his plan and showed his 100% peak effort . Jacob has more to give and is patiently waiting for the right moment to show hid 100% peak effort. That will be soon. Not today, but very soon
@regiseal4 ай бұрын
It doesn’t mean Kerr showed his hand, it means he raced in a way that would give him a less convincing/efficient win than his optimal race plan, which would have been blowing the doors off of Ingebrigtsen with 250 to go. If Kerr lets Ingebrigtsen lead any part of the Olympic final, he will save more energy to use on his much superior sprint finish

If he ran like that and nearly got Josh, on 80%, and just coming back from injury, he’ll win France. Kerr is not exciting, Jakob is and Jakob is no where near his best right now. Whilst the battle of Josh v Jakob continues, I’d be worried about Yared Nuguse. The silent assassin!
@usa95584 ай бұрын
Agree. Nuguse still continuously perform better since last year's diamond league final, he could surprise everyone if he can sit and kick just like this race. Wightman had a great SB also, and he is really silent since his injury.

With the level of intensity the media is putting on him to "put on a show" for them and their audiences, it almost feels like he's being molded into something he's really not. Would be interesting to see how these questions would have been answered in his native Norwegian.

It's such a cop out to say that the mile isn't part of 'his culture', when he has been racing the Bowerman Mile since he was like 17. People understand that this was his first race back from an Achilles injury, he doesn't need to defend himself. That's the danger in being the sore winner that he has been in the past -- when you do lose, it's hard on you mentally to accept it.
