For Ingebrigtsen to break the 1500m world record, he would need to run each 400m lap in 0.2 seconds faster than he's done before. That's certainly achievable. I think he'll do it.

Dear TRP, I remember all your predictions from way back when. It has been INCREDIBLE to watch Jakob smash those predictions, getting better every year. He is ready for the 15 WR now. He will take it by 2026. Conditions have to be just right. I do believe he would have broken the 15 record this year, had he run that in Silesia instead of the 3K. If he stays healthy - always a big if - he will take all the records up to 10K.
@pete5691

The 3k was an important record though. They don’t come around as often. I honestly think he just wanted to race something different and erase any notion that Komen’s records were untouchable.

Obviously any predictions are difficult, but some of these would just be wild guesses. With running having such a high genetic component for success, it is impossible to tell whether or not Jakob will be a good marathon runner with no previous history. Just because he has the combination of genetics, training, nutrition and dedication to be amazing at the shorter distances doesn't guarantee future success at longer distances. We have seen many athletes past and present move to the longer distances with great success as they get deeper into their career, so it is somewhat of a good predictor that he should at least be fairly competitive, but there is a big gap between fairly competitive and Kelvin Kiptum level. That said, I think Jakob has plenty of time to improve his 1500m and mile far enough to break both WR's and the 5000m should be possible, assuming no-one else moves the goal further before he gets there. After that, I think it's impossible to predict, but the 3000m Steeple Chase may suit him quite well and seems like an easier WR, despite Kiplimo's Half Marathon having a lower score.

He has a solo Doc? Damn. Well deserved. Because of the nature of running is a narrative driven endeavor. The 50,000 runners in Berlin know what happened. The rest of us have to be told what happened. Unless one participates in non strategic games the whole of one's life one believes runners are born not trained and developed. One is fast or not fast. Most people believe. That is the view of the person who tried it and gave up. The person who does not give up understands it is a Drosophila melanogaster in a bottle process. Little changes produce the slightest results we all see in final races. Except for the wind there are few externalities. Because human error does not play a role in general we who watch do not know what we saw after 60 meters or over day long competitive runs. For example unless one rides a bike hundreds of miles a month, month in a month out the Tour de France is none sense. Unless one has run at least a half Marathon a Marathon is none sense. (Athletics is so demanding it kills it's fan base😂). Therefore, the participants themselves do not know what they saw either. We know who won but no one knows why. The narrative is what drives athletics. What I hate most is to hear one person tell me what happened in an event when the only thing they saw was who crossed the line first. The myth that runners are born fast must be set aside and analysis of pre race factors and the results across the board have to come into popular parlance. It is kind of like watching other sports but tossing the weather report and the injury report in the trash. While point shavers were running the bases. The final score would indicate very little. Right? Nostradamus thank you for being all about the narrative. And athletic fans thank you for putting the narrative before all other considerations. How one won is more important than that one won. 👏 Bravo!

Let’s be honest, there is a huge asterisk next to any runner from North Africa. Algerian, Moroccan and Libyan as well as Tunisian runners get found out for doping all the time or are highly suspicious. The doping in the 1990s were very prevalent, put two and two together. Said aouita was a doper, mahklofi as well, We shall see when the blood testers can test even older blood.

Your comment basically says el guerrouj is okay to dope since a shoe has been released lol. You really think epo can be looked upon the same way as a shoe and pace lights? Besides, 100m is not 1500m. Totally different fields but again, better training isn’t better than doping, only if dopers train poorly, which el guerrouj didn’t do, so it’s irrelevant

Idk if this is unpopular take, but I really don't care about these irregular races. If race isn't done in worlds, it's not a competitive race with equivalent WRs. Mile, 2 mile, 3000m, 2 mile, I don't blame him if he gets paid to break these WRs but beating these is not comparable to 1500, 5k etc. Still waiting for first WR he'd do, and mile is not going to be one I count. In any case if he believes he can contest the hardest WRs, I expect him to focus on 1500 first, as it makes sense to move on to longer races as he ages. Maybe he is 5k/10k runner in '28. Get 1500 out of his system in next few years.
