I also am fascinated by the idea of these Super “Movie Fan’s favourite director” type of directors making superhero movies, like the Darren Aronofsky Batman Year One movie, that also sounds insane from what I’ve heard. U know there are a few good ideas the script had going for. Like with Peter & Mj starting off as lab partners to show some potential chemistry, and the beginning process taking a unique direction from Amazing Fantasy 15. But everything else was like alright, that's a bit too edgy and kinda misses the core aspects of him and others. Especially the whole euphoria route. It's also interesting that some elements were carried to Ramis' vision.

It feels like it was stuck between a darker/edgy batman like story and the light hearted whimsical movie we ended up getting from Raimi. I think Sam Raimi depicting Peter as an ultimatley good kid with just some awkward traits and pettiness (what kid doesnt have that going on) is a lot better than the disturbed anti-social stalker this movie had. Also I really see no reason why they should have changed the character names for the villains. Using the Green Goblin in Raimi's version was definitely the superior choice.

Gotta say, this Movie has some genuinely interesting parts. Peter needing to replace the Nutrients and Proteins he spent on Spinning Webs is definitely a Unique idea that I’m surprised the Raimi trilogy didn’t tackle, Hiding his Web Hole Thingies underneath a pair of Fake Web Shooters is neat And the potential idea of having Supervillains like Sandman existing before Pete becomes Spider-Man is also a Cool idea, possibly could’ve expanded to have Villains like Doc Ock, Mysterio and Hobgoblin had this script became a successful enough movie to warrant a sequel. But the Raimi Trilogy is irreplaceably iconic in all honesty, even SM3 has it’s qualities

The fact that James Cameron wrote two of the best Sci Fi and Horror female heroes and the guy who has went through many divorces clash big time on this thing. This slightly echoes what he does to Curtis in True Lies where Arnold humiliates her and more or less bribes her into a striptease. Honestly this movie could work as both a unique take on Spider-Man and act as a great adaptation of the character if some changes were made: 1. Have Peter grow out of being a perverted teen boy who loves Mary Jane for one thing only, and become a more mature man that actual know's MJ and loves her for who she is. You can keep the scene of him looking out her window the first time, and even have him check on her house after hearing her being abused by her parents. As for the rest however, many cuts would need to be made. That means no more stalking, instead have more scenes of both Peter and Spider-Man fall for MJ, and have her slowly fall for them, ultimately choosing Peter. Oh and one more thing: For god's sake remove the entirety of the spider-mating ritual sex scene on the Brooklyn bridge! That's not sexy, it's creepy and disturbing as all hell! 2. Give more characterization to MJ, as well as Uncle Ben and Aunt May. More scenes with them with Peter and without him would give them much more dimension and feel like their own characters instead of just props for Peter to interact with. 3. Rename Flash to his comic accurate name. 4. Rename and give more characterization to Elector and Sandman, making them more accurate to their comic book counter parts while still keeping the interesting ideas Cameron was playing with. James Cameron is one of my favorite film makers of all time but if this draft did end up being what was seen on screen and be many peoples introduction to Spider-Man, than man I'm glad it didn't happen.

In Smallville, when his x-ray vision was coming in for the first time, there was a moment in gym class where he fell, and as he got up he accidentally got a view of the girl's locker room. This kind of thing is a common trope for teenage characters. And it's not just guys who do it. MJ in Far From Home was going to peep on Peter. Like you said, it's fucked up, but teens will be teens, and then they'll grow out of it when they grow up

We would've had a totally different trilogy in the 90s through 2000. It makes me wonder how the film would've altered Hollywood and CMBs. Maybe Blade and X-Men would've been way different if this movie came out. Maybe comics or cartoons would've matched the movie's style or success. (You may hate the scriptment but it was gonna be hit no matter what, especially from 90s kids and James Cameron's increasing success. Like people got salty for people mocking the 2002 film and I feel there would be people that grew up with Cameron's trilogy as nostalgia blindlng flawless art. If people defend SM3 and TASM2, people would've totally defended this years later.) And since it wasn't Sony making it, they probably would've rebooted Spider-Man so quickly. Maybe the rights would've been sent back to Marvel and maybe we could've rebooted Spider-Man in the MCU way sooner. We probably wouldn't have gotten No Way Home, or maybe DiCaprio would've appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine if Sony didn't keep Spider-Man away and we already have a new Spider-Man since the late 2000s. Regardless of your thoughts on Cameron's Scriptment, there's no denying it would've changed history as we know it.

This reminds me at one point in likely a early draft of the movie originally Venom and Doc Ock were gonna be the main villains in this movie. I only know this because my dad owns a bunch of old Spider Man magazines from his youth that brought up about this movie at the time. Thought this would be the best time to bring this up. While I agree strand in this draft is a tad shallow, I disagree that his concept isnt good or that him being a deviant is inherently lazy At most he should be given more parallels to Peter's journey where he could've been better and simply chose not too. Making his fall to villainy tragic but self induced. Leaving no sympathy for the audience And considering all the shit I've seen and heard people with influence do over the years strand being a weird creep "because he can" isnt inherently shallow. It's the fucked up reality of people like him. People who control others and their bodies just because they think they can and so they do it. The world may not be black and white but people's choices sometimes have simplistic reasons like they are. While he needed a fee more passes the idea this story is going for is sound and would make for a easily hateable villain for us to see spidey take down for good

For what it's worth, I do think there's merit in a villain who makes the world around him his plaything simply because he can, because there's nobody who can stop him. Given a few rewrites to give him more depth, I think that sort of villain could work perfectly. Seems like a some of this script got salvaged into Spider-Man 3. Parts of Strand and Boyd got merged into Sandman. running from the cops, climbing the fence of a research lab, and getting turned to sand by careless scientists.

If this movie and its sequels were made: Edward Furlong from T2: Judgment Day would be the one to play Spidey, because Leonardo DiCaprio always rejects comic book roles. He even rejected Arthur Fleck in JOKER (2019). Spider-Man: No Way Home would have four Peter Parkers instead of three. Also, Michael Biehn would return as Boyd/Sandman, instead of recycling Flint Marko from Spider-Man 3 with CGI. Lance Henriksen as Carlton Strand also returns as the malevolent mastermind (like Kingpin) who leads the team of villains after most of them betrayed Spidey, Strand also upgrades Max Dillon/Electro's powers with his own electricity, and gives Norman Osborn/Green Goblin his electrical gauntlets like from the comics.

Peter should have handled things in a way to show his morality better, including immediate guilt for the creepy behavior. The core villains need a bit more humanization to give them depth. And the scene with Spider & MJ doing it should be just cut A) teenagers doing it on film is a no go B) it's extra creep = she doesn't know who he is and that paints her in a bad light, it's not needed. Then as far as MJ goes, her core factor that makes her Peter's best love interest is that in the early days and during their marriage run she fully supports him and often acts as a humanizing factor for him so that he can see why he needs to always watch his decisions and how they affect others. (( that is until the writer's at Marvel decided to mess up his love life and totally turn MJ story into a train wreck... which was horrible because they had the REAL potential to literally birth a whole new generation of at least one or more heroes... something that comics have struggled to do for decades. ))

I can't give enough prasie for this! The story, the art, everything. But one thing I want to touch upon, your voice. I don't know why, but I feel like you would make for a great young Peter Parker, but not quite Ultimate comics (I think he was 15), but a more mature maybe 17-20 year old Peter.
