his performance and singing should be given nothing but praise. he has accomplished a rewarding but difficult and tiring task all why having tourettes and a few other issues. he puts on an excellant performance every time. bought his cd first thing and its great. so everybody lets give him a hands up. most of us will never achieve our dreams and he did even if its just for a little bit

I was kinda like... "I don't know"... when I clicked on this. Wasn't expecting much.. I mean.. DIO! Takes some serious balls to have a go at THE voice of metal from the 80's, and ESPECIALLY Rainbow In The Dark.. But Dude delivered!

And this is why I like the guy! He went on Idol with HIS style, stayed true to it, and carried it on afterwards. He didn't try to win votes, public opinion, or the judges favours... he just did what he does. But the biggest reason for me... he didn't sell out for commercial success after!

I saw them in person too. This is one kick ass band!!! James has the best rock voice I have heard in a very long time, it's even more incredible live. I agree Dylan's hair is beautiful, and I miss Blake's (the other small guitarist on the other end) hair too. It used to be long just like Dylan's.

I was there when he did this. He fucking killed it. Fans went nuts. Is it his forte? No. Is he on my playlists? No. But his band did a good job with one of my fave songs and although he didn't quite hit the notes Ronnie did, he did a great job with it. There's a lot of potential in this young man, and I really hope his label lets himself do more work like this.

Durbin nails the essence of Ronnie's voice like no other!! He is simply amazing!!! I wish he'd have recorded more 80s metal on his album then the 'rock' mainstream on his first album. Let me hear u hit the same note range he actually hit in this song..or better yet,try to hit the note range he hit during performing with Steel Panther for the song Sweet Child of Mine...What he really meant very near and dear to them is because Dio is the metal god after all..He's one of the best idol a real metal fan could have..Plus when Dio's wife called him to say Dio would be proud,ur comment is not valid for any arguments anymore..

Going to pre-empt my remarks with two acknowledgments: 1. Durbin has chops; definitely gifted. I’ve heard him sing for QR & he sounds more like Kevin DuBrow than Kevin did. 2. This cannot be overstated: RJ Dio’s vocal acrobatics are extraordinarily difficult - if not impossible - for any singer to match, let alone duplicate; I don’t care who you are. I am not speaking of “sounding just like” Dio; that would be a near impossibility (as I think Dio’s soaring vocals & growl were unique to his physiology), not to mention uninteresting. I instead refer to the tremolos, vibratos...the “swoops & swirls” that Dio did with the notes are just incredibly difficult. IMO, if one cannot sound just like Dennis DeYoung, or Steve Perry, or Freddy Mercury (all of whom have doppelgängers), one should at least be able to match the notes in the song they’ve picked to cover. With that out of the way, Durbin’s vocals on this song are, at times, difficult to listen to; sometimes flat, & sometimes sharp. At one point, he sounds like an alley-cat wailing. *shudder* It’s clear that he can hit all of the notes. I’ve heard Durbin perform other songs perfectly (or near-perfect), so it’s not as though he doesn’t know what he’s doing. It would appear, then, that he bit off more than he could chew. That is, he picked a very difficult song, sung by a perfectionist with unearthly singing abilities. Hell, even Dio frequently had challenges executing his own songs live! So I’m not knocking Durbin. I am knocking his execution of RITD in this video. Durbin, if you’re reading this, work on it. You’ll get it. It’s a worthy goal of someone with your talent.
@cindyjensen21854 жыл бұрын
I dont think he is trying to be Ronnie, it's a tribute from a breath of fresh air, Durbin brought metal back when it was slowly dieing off, you are right Dio is a legend, no one could touch his sound, but.... there are people like James who can do it justice, I'm a huge Judas Priest fan and to hear him do Halford is amazing but not Halford, I mean who can be besides Halford?? But to hear this man do various metal bands makes my heart smile, he us living the dream, and if you have heard his own albums, this man can sing. But as far as the tributes or covers he us the closest to the originals by far.
@balderodinson445111 жыл бұрын
I think you can get away with it if you have a second guitarist playing the notes. I used to use a small casio KB in a cover band, while the rhythm guitarist played the rhythm. But had I not had the KB, I woulda just noted it on the guitar. It's only like 6 notes.

Great performance. Nailed if for sure. Every time I see big roadies like that standing there I remember this five foot 90 pound blonde girl that ask one to move over so she could see. He was about six foot four and just blew her off. She stood there for twenty minutes then just punched him in the gut so hard he hit the floor. Took two roadies and two cops to remove her. Good times and long live rock!

@Av3nged112 I would love to respond but your apparent lack of grammar prevents me from writing anything too complicated. instead I will simply say I too have all Dio's albums, I also have all Maiden's albums... but how can you say "this style of music is bad for the future"? It's a Dio tune! I thought you'd have noticed that. some people can't even troll properly.

It's a good performance, but you can not play Ronnie James and his particular vocal range simply emulating his melodic tones, you cannot ignore the fact that this Young man, has not yet aged his voice, intones and sings well, but to interpretate DIO with accuracy You must sound like a man not a boy, otherwise it takes away all it´s personality and sense, anyway, great job, Hold On! \m/

You do know Priest was on American Idol, right? Here's a little bit of insight Ill share wityh you. Theyre all in it for the money. Anyway, I dont watch the show. Dont like the catalog. I did watch it when James was on. Didnt like all his selections. But I understand the producers had him on a leash. That's how the biz is. They make you and can break you. If you want it bad enough, you compromise some of your artistic integrity. That's just how it is. Dio even tried to go commercial

Is the guitarist Zak Wylds younger brother? Jeesh, the dude looks and acts like Zak on stage. I mean he even plays a Les Paul. Unless your in a cover band how about not trying to look and act like some one else. I mean the dude cant change his looks butt atleast pick up a Jackson or ESP to do something to not look like a total want to be.
