James Tweeted about how much he hated Drive Impacts. And EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER decided to respond to the Tweet. Not sure why it got so much play, but it was full of misinterpretation. sigh James really should not be shocked.

As someone who played high level killer instinct, drive impact is relatively a cakewalk because it's just a really slow combo breaker in my head

What’s nice though is that once you get hit by a Combo in KI, you can move your hands away from all buttons and it doesn’t matter. It’s a moment where you know you’re supposed to shift your hands. In SF6, you have to shift your hand INSTANTLY or die. At least even in KI, if you don’t break the first point, you can try breaking again later. If they end the combo instantly, you’re at least taking less potential damage. This is for Stick players of course.

DIs are free combos, I’m hoping my opponents do di because even at 35 years old I can react to them pretty easily most of the time, it’s when opponents don’t di that throws me off a bit because then I completely forget about it then they randomly do it after a stray jab or something

Yeah. I honestly don’t think age has any factor to reacting to DIs. That’s just the stereotype but many old people have no problems. It’s for certain a ME problem (aka “get gud scrub!”) that I haven’t been able to solve yet.

​@@UltraChenTV audio reactions are much faster than visual reactions. While age does slow people down there's no quantity of years that's going to slow down an audio reaction enough that it's the root cause of someone being unable to check DI. I think a lot of people just haven't hard coded that sound into an automatic response yet.

Have you thought about moving all your normals over to the right like this? X* LP MP HP DI LK MK HK with this layout you can reasonably set X* to EX Punch or more likely than not parry. probably less stress on your pinky too if you're hitting DI with thumb or index instead.

That is the biggest thing I hate in sf6 is the drive rush freeze disable your opponent input… I noticed that bug on the first 30days and because of gatekeeping in FGC, years later were discussing this issue 🤣🤣🤣

This is why I prefer using leverless with smaller buttons, lol. Easy to reach pinky button for DI. On a side note, as a Guile main, I like to react to a raw DI with a light Flash Kick. It has enough invul that you fly over it, and it nets you a punish counter throw, and now the enemy's the one stuck in the corner 😂

I’m with you James. I like so so so many other things about SF6 but I’m getting older and DI is miserable and it makes me not play the game.

Nobody is going to convince me that me being put into a mandatory quick time event that could lead into a wallbounce into a full damage combo EVERY time I'm in the corner is a good mechanic. This on top of the fact that the corner is already strong as hell without it. Full damage combo because I BLOCKED is insane... No other fighter gives you that much reward because the opponent blocked. Imagine we got full damage combos because someone blocked a jump in?(which is easier to see coming) Instead if we don't react to a jump in and we block it your opponent only gets plus frames nothing more. I Would be fine with this mechanic if I can block DI while in the corner. Wallbounce should only lead to plus frames not being opened up to a combo that takes half my life. Imagine if they put a trash mechanic like this in DBFfz? Guilty gear? Dnf duel,grand blue ect.... nobody would be shilling amd pretending like it's good just because they are capable of dealing with it. A trash mechanic is still a trash mechanic even if u can deal with it. Also everyone saying it's easy to react to is lying because I done seen plenty of pros get checkmate because of the wallbounce. Blocking in the Corner should never be a death sentence in any 2d fighter PERIOD. I miss the days where I was only at risk of a grab or a overhead when I blocked in the corner.

That age may be gone forever. I haven’t done top 6 the last two years. I might just not be “hip” enough anymore. Hahaha. I’m gonna try my best to make a case for getting me back on next year, but we’ll see.

Honestly I have a little trouble react Drive Impacting even with it on 1 button(though mine is R2). I think I realize it too late half of the time and my finger is too slow, though I swear I just catch the input delay frames most of the time. Other times I'm already hitting a button and my idiot brain goes "I'll just break it. Jab J-" *°POOOOWW°.*

Are you in pad or stick? If I was on pad, I think this wouldn’t even be a real issue, tbh. It’s a mechanic SO designed for pad more than anything else.

I play on pad. PS5 controller on PS5 wirelessly. Maybe I'm just slow because it's only Drive Impact and Drive Parry(which I have on L2) that I have trouble timing. My fingers don't really rest on them and all of my attack buttons feel on time.

I'm still kind of mixed on DI, but like most things sf6-related, I'm biased because I play Manon. For as much as people talk about the range of some of her moves, which admittedly is good, a handful of them can just be DI'd. Sure the opponent has to be on point for that, but it still sucks trying to throw out a HK and dying for it. I also don't like the "mini-game" part of it, and how it kind of shuts down some characters so hard, and yet so many others barely care about it, or have built-in breakers and baits. The idea of having a universal move to punish bad offense is neat and all, but fighting lily and guessing if she is just charging wind, or doing the attack version is kind of ass. As far as the corner stuff goes, I'm largely okay with it, because if you are fidgety you are probably ready for it, and if you're being too passive you'll eat it. It kind of "forces" some action. I just think I would add more scaling to it when you wall-splat. Not like many characters care about scaling anyways, but I think it only needs a band-aid like that, nothing too crazy.

@Runk3lsmcdougal "Rev blow" is one of the new mechanics they are adding to COTW; essentially, it is a forward advancing armored attack (like DI). You can also do it IN THE AIR lol

But at least you don’t die if you block it in the corner. So that’s the part that kills me. There are universal overheads that are pretty fast and Preecha can combo off hers, but I’m sure that will be changed. There’s still a LOT of balancing time.

But they are better than the 10 frames eating Drive Rushes 😅😅 That thing eats your buffers and prevent you from wake up specials, after dash specials, just landing specials, and even just standing specials sometimes 😂😂 By the way, the proper way to use a sick is not laying your hand over the buttons. You need to move your fingers fast enough to press any buttons with your index and middle, switching from one button to another. That was the way in arcade's times 😅 But now games are faster and at the same time we turned lazy and we ended up depending on three in one buttons and things like that.

I never moved my hands much in arcade days. And I never used more than six buttons. That I have to use 7th and 8th buttons are really unwieldy. I need to do like the Japanese players do and add extra buttons to my stick.

@@UltraChenTV Well, nowadays there are lots of new moves and buttons combinations, in SFII the only one that uses a combination is Zanguief😋 Pressing 3 buttons at the same time was a special requeriment itself, but now you need to press 2 buttons to grab, to DI, to DR... Even all at once to taunt 😅😅 Even so, I always wanted to play like those people that move their hand so fast that they don't use their ring or little fingers, and use the thumb only for combinations. For some reason I've always thought that if I use the little finger to press hard punches or kicks because I'm laying my hand on the stick is some kind of lazy technique, and it is in fact slower and ineffective, and after a while I always ended up with some numbed fingers 😅😅

DR doesn’t eat inputs. DR time freezes you. Just for a second. Go to training, record yourself doing DR then soon as you see the DR, you DR and you will win. This is space dependent, if they are far enough you can spam your DI right after and they will pause. Close up DR, just block or do an invincible special.

It does actually eat Jumps. That has been confirmed. It’s the only thing it actually “eats.” It “eats” other inputs by having things of higher priority overwrite moves if they overlap in the freeze.

DI is a scrubby mechanic for people who cannot do neutral. It's there to punish people for blocking and zoning.

Yeah. That is essentially eaten inputs but technically it is NOT. It’s just extending the Block Stun like Jimmy says. So it’s not eating inputs, it’s **changing the timing**. It behaves exactly like a Super Freeze, but Super Freezes are longer so we can react to them and repeat our inputs. As I discussed in a previous video where I dissected this in SUPER detail, the issue here is that there is NO good solution to this. Technically, the DR freeze causes us to lose time. There are 9 frames where inputs can be entered that don’t really exist. So no matter what solution is chosen, we have to lose 9 frames SOMEWHERE. Even if we played the inputs immediately after the DR Freeze ends, if you input, say, 236 during the freeze and LP after the Freeze, the game will have to register the 236 and OVERWRITE the LP. That’s not ideal either. You can’t really buffer the whole thing because that means everything you do is 9 frames behind until you go back to Neutral. If I hold forward on the controller during the entire Drive Rush Freeze and never let go after and the game buffers ALL inputs until you reach a Neutral State, I won’t actually stop walking or attack when I press a button until 9 frames later, which is even worse. Any changes to the freeze itself (making it longer, making it so DRs just take 9 l frames with no freeze, etc.) would obliterate the entire ecosystem of the game because the combos and punishes and turns are all so intricately calculated that any change would require MASSIVE rebalancing. Or if the Freeze is longer, raw Drive Rush might become entirely useless. Which I know some wouldn’t mind. Hahaha. But I’m sure they don’t want that. So again, the only significant input that actually gets eaten is the three “ups”. And that one sucks a LOT. That one they NEED to fix. So the reason they haven’t fixed it yet is because there really is NO satisfactory fix at the moment until someone can think of one.

@@UltraChenTV It's a very complicated issue. I think that the freeze shouldn't exist, just making the DR move slower itself. At least the first one, when there are no contact yet. But once the fist blow is connected, let everything the same at it is 🤔

As I said, removing the freeze and just giving DRs an extra 9 frame startup would mess up a lot of things. Raw Drive Rushes would become a LOT weaker. Like blocking Blanka’s HP Blanka Ball and Drive Rishing after it would basically be suicide in many ways. A lot of punishes would just stop working. It would require a lot of balancing. And honestly, keeping the freeze in combos would actually be pointless by then because the Freeze is simply to make them easier to check in a real match. Might as well just make them instant in combos as well to make combos a bit harder and more execution heavy. So again, removing the freeze in Neutral messes up a LOT of things if the opponent can act for those 9 frames of startup. I know people think DRs are too strong as they are so they are okay with raw DR being nerfed, but raw DRs would not be nerfed in this case, they’d almost lose all usefulness.

I almost wish that were true. But my reactions have been bad since the beginning. And I can react to other things quickly. I even took a cognitive test recently and it showed my reactions are fine, but not VISUAL reactions. There might be something with me needing to interpret what I see more clearly before my brain decides to act. I can feel in in so many places. Even as a kid, when I learned piano, I never learned how to site read. I always always ALWAYS had to memorize the notes in my muscle memory but could never look at the notes and remember what to do. Again, this was when I was a child. So I’m pretty sure I just have a weird slower visual processing than others.
