​@@jg54sayaka11 Yes it is, you need about 3 times the energy per km compared to a battery powered vehicle. However if you can produce it locally with renewable energy it's not to much of a problem though. However at the moment it's very limited giving you a certain amount of hydrogen on a charging station (you will run out quick). So when you actually did fill up your vehicle quickly, the person next in line of the charging station might not be able to fill up his vehicle because the station has run out of hydrogen.. This is the biggest problem at the moment for HEV's. So while the infrastructure is more or less mature for BEV's (only needs scaling up), the cars are still somewhat limited in range and charging speed (only an issue with long hauls, commuting is still already convenient with a BEV). With HEV's it's the other way around, filling up is quick and the range is reasonable but the infrastructure is lacking at the moment.

The LCD display looks like it's from the 90's! Hydrogen fuel makes sense where you can fill quickly. There should be an option for a smaller battery say which will drive about 60 miles and can be charged up (most daily drives are around this range, so you don't lose evergy on conversion for your daily commute) and a hydrogen fuel tank for longer drives.

I do own a 2020 Toyota Corolla 2.0 Hybrid now since half a year and I am absolutely happy with it. That is coming from having owned a 325bhp Octavia, an M-Performance BMW F30 and a Mini Cooper S Compressor. As much as I love old cars like old 911s, Ferrari 288 GTO etc. we won't drive around like that much longer. I enjoy my hybrid, the technology is amazing and considering what you get for the money in a car like the Corolla, how well everything works and also how much they increased their built-quality, you don't need a german car anymore either... Having tested lots of cars before deciding, I'd say the "Yota" was a much better choice than any Hybrid BMW, Audi or Merc are at the current state and even though I fancied and could have afforded an R-Design Volvo V60/V90, it was the flawless tech in the Toyota which won me over in the end (and the fact is the only car which really hits its claimed fuel-range almost perfectly on every single tank)

Thank you James for putting up your own cash to test these two. The CSIRO here in Australia have designed a way for the safe transportation of Hydrogen which will help the adoption of this technology enormously. Also Fortescue the Iron ore miner has signed a JV with CSIRO to take this technology forward. Also worth noting is a lot of investors believe the two technologies will work together a lot like Petrol and Diesel. So the battery car around the city for short trips and Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle’s for longer distances or trucks. Also another Australian company called Hazer Group (HZR.ASX) has a process of extracting Hydrogen from waste methane (poo 😜). They are an interesting business. Plenty poo in the world to run cars!

Is transporting hydrogen realistically any more treacherous than transporting petroleum? They're both pretty explosive. To my mind the only difference would be that hydrogen is pressurised, but does that make it that much more risky? And we transport natural gas which is also explosive and pressurised, wouldn't the same methods apply?

hydrogen is extremely explosive, burns invisibly, pernicious, causes metal embrittlement, and the efficiency is woeful ...... sounds ideal!

Yeah, hydrogen as fuel source scares the shit out of me as hydrogen *_never_* burns, it only *_explodes._* Yes the pressure containers of today are much stronger, but have you seen how bad car accidents get? Once that pressurized hydrogen is released... *_woomf._*

The military. Consumer vehicles being ripped apart and ruined, while selling the average person on the idea that it's their *responsibility* to buy a prius or a tesla is really sad

LOL. There was a definite startle reflex from James when the car beeped him. What are the odds that the other two hooligans will find a way to make the Toyota issue scary warning alerts? A Bluetooth speaker hidden under the dash so they can a friend with the right voice to do a 'WARNING WARNING. Fuel cell temperature is critical. Exit the car immediately and seek cover. [EDIT] On the other hand, if the vehicle were to issue such a warning for real, James would assume it was the other two arsing around, and his last words on planet Earth would be 'Very funny. There James. I’ve liked, i was already subscribed and here’s my f...ing comment. I’ve been a mechanic for 25 years and spent the last 17 years working on forklifts, both internal combustion and battery electric. Of course electric motors are going to take over eventually, they only have one moving part and are therefore cheaper to manufacture. One thing you didn’t mention was the pollution created in manufacturing and eventual disposal of the lithium ion batteries for BEV’s. And yes I keep my toolbox very neat and organised as a proper tradesman should.
